An Architect turned Architectural
Photographer and Cinematographer, Ar.
Prasanth Mohan did his Bachelors in
Architecture fromTKM College of Engineering,
Kerala,India.Recipient of several national and
international photography awards, he started
his career in cinematography with renowned
cinematographer Santosh Thundiyil. He
worked as the assistant cinematographer
for the Bollywood movie Jai Ho and Anchu
Sundarikal in Malayalam.
His photographs and articles on Architectural
Photography and Conservation Photography
have been extensively published in leading
architecture magazines all around India
and abroad. He has participated in various
international festivals, including the
prestigious Angkor Photo Festival, Cambodia.
He is currently heading the firm “Running
Studios” exclusively for “Architectural
Photography and Heritage Documentation”.

combining the nuances of architecture

Summer School 2017

rat[LAB] EDUCATION is an initiative by rat[LAB]-Research in
Architecture & Technology to start a new discourse in architecture
and parallel design disciplines with the use of ‘computational design’
and it’s various subsets. After a successful completion of 25 national
and international design workshops, rat[LAB]EDUCATION organized
Summer School 2017 in India that delved into computational design and
parametric methods of designing. The three day design module took
place in two cities, New Delhi and Mumbai from 31st June to 2nd July
2017 and 7th July to 9th July 2017 respectively.

New Delhi Chapter of rat[LAB]EDU Summer School 2017 started on
30th June 2017 with 36 participants from different cities of India and
took place at Start-up Tunnel, Vihara Innovation Campus in New Delhi.

First day started with an induction on ‘Parametric Design and
Computation Thinking’ by studio director and designer Sushant Verma
through a presentation, followed by introduction to Parametric tools
and software Rhinoceros 3D and Grasshopper3D. First day sessions
focused on design exercises and examples to understand complex data
structures in computation which form a major part of computational
thinking process in design.

On second day, participants explored further on patterns, geometries
and mathematical logics. Introduction to ‘Art’ was made through visual
presentations with possible computational logics discussed informally
with participants. The larger agenda of weaving ‘parametric’ and ‘art’
opened during these sessions.

Third and final day of workshop was an eventful day starting with Mumbai Chapter initiated on 7th July 2017 with 30 participants from
