LETTER FROM THE GOLF PROFESSIONAL Gentlemen, On behalf of the entire golf staff at Marietta Country Club, welcome to the 2024 Men’s Member-Guest Tournament! This is one of our favorite weeks of the year and we look forward to sharing it with you. We are proud to announce that the 2024 Member-Guest Champions will earn the right to slip on the coveted MCC Red Blazer. Good luck to all teams! I would like to say a very special thank you to our 2024 MGA President, Mr. Whit Smith as well as Member-Guest Tournament Chairmen Allan Kyburz and Fran Hargarten. Together these men have put forth amazing effort and partnership to ensure that this weekend will be truly memorable for all 180 participants. This booklet contains all pertinent details surrounding this week’s activities, so please take time to review it and let us know if you have any questions. MCC General Manager, Daniel Laterza and the entire Clubhouse Staff are proud to welcome each of you to the Club for this marquee event. Our Executive Chef, Colin Quirk, and his Culinary Team have prepared a fantastic food and beverage experience for both you and your invited guest to enjoy. TOURNAMENT INFORMATION TOURNAMENT PLAY The Tournament Field is divided into 15 Flights based on a combined handicap using 100% of the “A” player’s handicap and 50% of the “B” player’s handicap. Each Flight will consist of 6 teams competing in 5 nine-hole matches, against teams within their flight. Matches will be contested in a Better Ball format, with the low handicap in each match playing at scratch, and the remaining players receiving the difference in their handicaps for nine holes. Please note that 80% of the handicap will be used for matches. Handicap strokes will be marked on each hole. Matches will be awarded by total points won. Points will be awarded as follows: 1 point for a hole won, 0 points for a hole lost, ½ point for a hole tied. There are 9 points available in each match. If any team forfeits a match or the match is unopposed, the opponent will play against “Par” using 80% handicap. The team with the most total points at the end of the five matches will be the Flight Winner. Ties for Flight Winner will be decided by the head-to-head result. If a tie still exists, the tie will be decided by total points from the fourth and fifth round matches. If a tie still exists, the tie will be decided by a chip off (one player per team will compete) on #18 green. THE DEATH FLIGHT The teams with the lowest point total within their respective flight after the completion of the third match will constitute the Death Flight. The team with the highest point total at the completion of tournament play will be the Death Flight winner and will compete in the final playoff for the Overall Member-Guest Title. A tie for the Death Flight winner will be decided by the team’s fourth and fifth match point total. If a tie remains a winner will be decided by a chip-off (one player per team will compete) on #18 green. If a Death Flight representative withdraws at any point, then that particular flight will have no Death Flight team. WILD CARD This year there will be a total of THREE “Wild Cards” awarded. The Wild Cards will go to the highest point earning teams that DO NOT WIN their Flight. There will be one Wild Card awarded from Flights 1-5, one from Flights 6-10, and one from Flights 11-15. These three teams will earn a berth into the Championship Playoff. A tie for the Wild Card winner will be decided by the team’s point total from the fourth and fifth matches. If a tie remains, the winner will be decided by points accumulated in the fifth match. If a tie remains, the winner will be decided by a chip-off (one player per team will compete) on #18 green.
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION 2024 MEMBER-GUEST CHAMPIONS The Overall Member-Guest Champions will be decided by a Flight Winner Playoff among all 15 Flight Winners, Death Flight Winner, and 3 Wild Card Winners. Teams will play an alternate shot format (gross scores using different teeing grounds). This will be a true alternate shot format with team members selecting who will play first and alternating shots until the hole is complete. This will be a strict alternate shot format from the first shot played until a Champion is determined. SHOOTOUT/FLIGHT WINNER PLAYOFF – PROCEDURE There will be 19 Teams competing in this year’s Championship Shootout. • The Team earning the HIGHEST point total in Flight Play will receive a BYE and will advance to the second hole (Hole #18) of the Shootout automatically. We will play Hole #1 with TWO groups of 9 Teams in each group. - 15 Flight Winners - 3 Wild Card Teams - 1 Death Flight Champion Hole #1 9 Teams 5 Teams advance Hole #1 9 Teams 5 Teams advance Hole #18 10 Remaining Teams + Highest Point Earners 5 Teams advance Hole #10 5 Teams 2 Teams advance Hole #9 2 Teams – Sudden Death for the Championship 2024 Champions TOURNAMENT TEES All contestants shall play from the BLUE tee markers (~ 6,500 yards). * Players will receive 80% of their handicap in all matches. PACE OF PLAY The Tournament Committee is dedicated to the enjoyment of all participants in this event. We thank you in advance for observing a respectful pace of play. Any player unable to contribute on a hole should pick up to assist in maintaining pace of play. SCORECARDS In order to facilitate an enjoyable pace of play, participants are asked to promptly return scorecards to the scoring area once your match is complete. Food and beverage will be available at multiple locations for your convenience. FORFEIT RULE Should any team forfeit any match, their opponent will play against par using 80% handicap.
TOURNAMENT DOGFIGHT RULES PARTICIPATION FEE PER TEAM - $200 PRIZE MONEY PAYOUT 60% of the total pot will be allocated towards Flight Results 40% of the total pot will be allocated to the Championship Playoff Results FLIGHT RESULTS (60% OF PURSE) Winners of Each Flight 2024 CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFF RESULTS (40% OF PURSE) Winner of Playoff Runner Up (eliminated on #9) Tied Third Place (eliminated on #10) Tied Third Place (eliminated on #10) FLIGHT RESULTS Flight Winners will be determined by the team with the most points. Points are earned as follows: Win a Hole 1 point Lose a Hole 0 points Halve a Hole ½ point FLIGHT WINNERS The team with the most points at the end of the five matches will be the flight winner. Ties for Flight Winner will be decided by the head-to-head result. If teams are still tied, 2nd day total points will be used. If teams are still tied, a chip-off will determine the winner. The team winning their flight with the HIGHEST point total will automatically earn their spot in the second hole of the Championship Shootout. OVERALL CHAMPION RESULTS The Overall Champions of the 2024 Men’s Member-Guest (as determined by the Flight Winners Playoff) will receive 20% Championship Purse. Prize money will also be awarded to the Top 3 teams advancing the longest in the Playoff. The team must participate in the Dogfight to receive this payout. If the overall winner is not in the Dogfight, the team participating in the Dogfight who advances the furthest in the Flight Winners Playoff will receive the payout (ties in this case will split the winners’ share). Death Flight Results are excluded from the Dogfight.
TOURNAMENT PARI-MUTUAL RULES COST Tickets are $5.00 each. A ticket is good on flight winners ONLY.
