On behalf of the more than 1,000 employees and associates of Ledlenser worldwide, I am honored to announce
the formation of Ledlenser USA. Our new North American headquarters, a short walk from the Willamette River in
Portland, Oregon, will become the high-energy epicenter of the brand in the Americas. From Portland, we will inject a
renewed enthusiasm into the proud legacy of Ledlenser and show why Ledlenser’s German-engineered product lines

deserve a place in the toolboxes, backpacks and pockets of portable lighting users across the Americas.

OUR HISTORY

How Ledlenser reinvented
the portable light.

Many revolutionary products first saw the light of day in a garage. Such was the
case of the first Ledlenser. When Harald and Rainer Opolka founded the company
Ledlenser in 1993, they really didn’t have much more than a garage, an old Atari
computer, a set of tools, a drawing pad and around 1,000 Deutschmarks of seed
capital. But that didn’t stop them from turning many a night into day with their
flashes of genius, working hard and dreaming of great success during their few
hours of sleep each night.
A dream that would soon become reality: Nowadays the former garage company is
an international flashlight and headlamp producer, unmatched on a worldwide scale.
With over 1,500 employees we share the aim of getting a little better every day – and
indeed in everything we do. We are therefore continually extending our product and
accessories range, scrutinizing even tried and tested ideas, and increasingly relying
on sustainable energy sources.
At the same time, responsibility is far more important to us than shareholder value.
That’s why we prefer to invest profits in training programs and company housing
for employees in China, to get involved in social projects and to foster ecological
practices.

This is where light and expertise come together: our headquarters in Solingen, Germany.

Before the final production of a new Ledlenser come months of research and development work. In total,
more than 100 committed employees work at our headquarters, however the outside of the picturesque
red-brick building is deceiving.

Behind these thick walls you’ll find extremely modern offices, a light research center and spacious
workshops with the latest high-tech facilities. Here our employees are inspired, conceive and discuss ideas,
and produce countless prototypes. Our headquarters are where we direct the entire company, carry out our
research, plan marketing and manage every activity around the world.

In short: This is the place where all of our expertise comes together.

Engineered in Germany.
Produced in China.

Our development department in Solingen, Germany is our “ideas laboratory” where we
exchange ideas and lead passionate discussions. In addition to concentrated expertise, a good
portion of “madness” also plays a role here. We look into what it is our users really need, and
how we can meet those demands in an intelligent and new way. We then mold the answers
into a unique, ergonomic design.

Our site in the Chinese city of Yangjiang, on the other hand, is where all our production
skills come together. We firmly believe that experience in product quality is important
and are constantly further developing our knowledge in that area. All of our products are
manufactured and tested, from the prototype stage to mass production in Yangjiang.

To ensure that our products become real and proper tools which can withstand the toughest
conditions, we first put them to the acid test. Our quality control checklist includes 24 various
tests, which encompass nearly all types of possible stress. Endurance, extreme temperatures,
water, salt, blows, pressure – it’s all inspected and tested until our engineers are fully
satisfied. At the end of the day, our customers can look forward to functional, durable and
extremely reliable lights.

Rapid Focus

When you focus and defocus the flashlight or
headlamp, our reflector lens moves in relation
to the LED. In order to create the fastest and
most ergonomic process possible for users, we
developed Rapid Focus: a single-hand operated
mechanism used to change the light mode at

“True Light” - the Ledlenser Difference.

Lumens is the total amount of light emitted by a light source, regardless of the direction the light is emitted. It’s a
standard way of measuring the power of an incandescent bulb or an LED. A light bulb can easily emit well over 1,000
lumen but that light is sent in almost all directions. As you know, a standard light bulb isn’t effective at transmitting a
controlled beam of light in a specific direction.

In the world of portable lighting, the amount of lumens is merely the potential for the flashlight or headlamp to create
a useful beam. At Ledlenser, we are experts in turning that potential into the reality of the beautifully crafted beams
that make our products famous. This is where lux comes into play.

Lux, which is the measurement of light intensity on a lit surface, needs to be taken into account as well. The 1,000+
lumen incandescent light bulb won’t create much intensity on a surface 100 meters away, but a flashlight or
headlamp equipped with Ledlenser’s Advanced Focus System sure will!

To achieve the best light output possible in both lumens and lux, Ledlenser developed the Advanced Focus System,
which has never been bettered. It’s this system that continues to give us the edge over competitors, as most still use
a fixed focus to produce the light beam, trying to find a balance of spot and flood using reflectors or diffusers. When
a light passes through a diffuser it loses much of its intensity. Thanks to the German-engineered Advanced Focus
System, Ledlenser flashlights and headlamps provide the best performance in spot, while also creating wide flood
beams that produce superb uniformity of light with no shadowing. When compared in lux, our products create more
usable light where the user needs it most.

Luminous flux in Lumen (lm) LUMEN
LUX
Luminous flux is the most commonly used measurement for
characterizing the performance of a lamp. It refers to the amount of
light or light energy that is actually radiated from a light source.

But what’s measured? Some manufacturers indicate the luminous
flux of the LED and neglect to say that it is significantly reduced by
losses in the reflector/lamp head.

Our luminous flux values are measured with spectrometer from
the lamp head, not from the LED itself, thus giving a more accurate
measurement of lumens.

Illuminance in Lux

This value refers to the intensity with which a surface is lit. It
comes from photography and light architecture. There are clear
specifications as to what illuminance workplaces or supermarkets
must have. Illuminance is measured with lux meters.

With our Advanced Focus System and Smart Light Technology, you
can adjust the illuminance to your needs, reducing glare when viewing
things up close or shining far into the distance to see the path ahead.

Whichever way you look at it, the combined reflector/lens used in our
Advanced Focus System provide superior lux levels both near and far.
