This year Harmony Day was held on the 23rd of March, and
to promote this the SRC developed a photography competi-
tion with prizes that involved gifts, shout-outs and promotional
posters around the school. We also run the Anti-bullying week
activities and “R U OK Day” with our Prefect body because we
believe, that success can be only achieved, by living harmoni-
ously in an inclusive and accepting community.
In addition we also believe in supporting the community through
fundraising. This is when we run The World’s Greatest Shave
Day in collaboration with the Prefects. We collected more than
$1000 in donations. Likewise with the help of Ms Milovanovic
and many teachers our Pink Ribbon Day was made into a mas-
sive school event which raised a $1000.
During the year, the students have also been involved in sup-
porting other events such as ANZAC Day, White Ribbon Day,
Revolution Red Campaign Day, and Jeans for Genes Day,
Smith family Christmas Appeal along with our visits to the local
nursing homes to spread some Christmas Cheer to our well
deserving and respected elderly.
The SRC wishes to thank our Principal, Deputy Principals,
teachers, the SASS staff and the School Community for
supporting us throughout the year to carry out services to our
school and the wider community.

COOKING CLASS
WRITTEN BY PETER GOCK
The day started when the Year 8 French class met Mrs Zammit at the front of
the canteen t to get our names marked off. After waiting for a few late students,
we commenced our walk to the 483 bus stop in Strathfield. After a 15-20 wait,
the bus came and we all sat ourselves at the back of the bus.
The bus journey took about 20 minutes and we arrived at Stanmore. A short 2
min walk and we were entering the building of the French international cooking
School.
We proceeded inside, were seated and introduced to Laurent Villoing, our
instructor for the day! Mr Villoing introduced us to his cooking school and gave
us information about his own background Following his “speech” we donned
our aprons and started cooking.
The first course of the day was a chocolate mousse. After preparing that, we
progressed to triple chocolate cookies. I was beginning to sense a theme here!
After making the cookie mixture, we went back to the mousse and beat up the
egg whites to make meringues. The finished product was then placed in the
fridge.
Next on the menu was French onion soup. When cutting the onions, everyone
and I mean “everyone” started crying. Finally, when the mousse was ready,
the soup was finished and everyone stopped crying, our food was ready to be
served. Everyone ate fairly quickly, happy with the food and the mini recipe
souvenir we each received.
It was then time to leave the cooking school and head back to catch the bus
back to school. The day was eventful with laughs and cries and everyone
present had a whole heap of fun. This was a great excursion that I enjoyed with
all my French class peers.

“A School is all bricks and mortar; it is the people
inside it that make it great.”
In the first week of year seven we all went to Coolendel for the year 7 camp
and as we all piled off the bus and students clambered to get their bags,
find their troops and act as cool as they could around the other boys for
street cred. I noticed one student who had obviously been camping before
all kitted out in the jubilee Scout gear he had only just got weeks earlier.
I vividly remember thinking two things, 1 keep an eye on this one he is
self-assured and confident. The 2nd thing I thought was “This kid is in for a
world of hurt, wearing that stuff” That individual turned out alright and Craig
miller went on to become School captain.
That camp forged many friendships some which still hold strong today, as
the boys spent most of the camp looking for dry places to stay as tents
washed away, the river rose 10 meters Jump rock was submerged under
the river, a tree got hit by lightning and the busses almost didn’t make it
in due to the flooding so the boys were ready to walk out on foot. Yet that
didn’t stop them from playing in the rain getting dirty and making the most
out of a tough situation away from their parents.
This group has always had a fond place in my heart, (I may be biased, but
you are the best behaved well rounded group to go through HBHS in my 13
years at the school).
I thank you for the privilege of being a big part of your lives for the last 6
