7 PRO TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT FAUCET FOR YOUR BATHROOM

Good designers look for quality of engineering in the design and

construction of a faucet and its moving parts. Said in more basic terms, buy

the best faucet you can afford, particularly for something you use several
times a day. Why not choose a faucet that will make you feel good? Here are

7 key things to consider when buying your next bathroom faucet.

1. FAUCET FINISHES

Faucet finish is one of today’s key design elements. Faucet finishes can
provide richer, more elegant looks to faucets and purposeful design by

blending finishes with other items in the room. Mixing and matching can

work as long as they blend well. The latest technology for bonding a finish

to a faucet is physical vapor deposition, also known as PVD. With PVD, the
finish becomes integral to the faucet itself, resisting scratches, tarnishing,

and corrosion to ensure the faucet looks its best day after day.

2. GO CERAMIC TO AVOID THOSE PESKY DRIPS

Valves are faucet components that can’t be seen yet play a very important
role in determining the performance and longevity of your bathroom

faucet. Valves can also impact your bathroom experience; cheap valves can

easily degrade over a short time and start to leak or become loose and
wobbly when the handles are rotated as they begin to wear down.

Considered the most reliable approach, the latest technology in valves is

ceramic; with ceramic disc valves, every time you turn a handle two discs
control water flow by gliding back and forth over an airtight seal that

prevents leaking and ensures a super smooth operation.

Pro-Tip:

With ceramic disc valves, you
can expect a lifetime of
drip-free and maintenance-free
performance. Always choose

faucets with ceramic disc valves.

3. ANY MATERIAL THAT WILL HOLD WATER CAN BE USED TO MAKE A FAUCET

Unusual faucets have been made from wood, ceramics, plastic (yes, several

big box retail brands have plastic in their faucets!) and even glass. Typically,

faucets are made from metal, including stainless, steel, zinc, copper and
other metal alloys. Faucets found in typical big box retail stores are made

from either zinc or ZAMACK, which is zinc combined with aluminum,

magnesium and copper, and is also known as “pot metal”, and is a way to cut
costs and reach the price goals of the big box stores. But it is not the best

choice for faucets. The highest-quality faucets use solid, lead-free brass,

which will last the longest and require the least care, particularly in areas
with hard water. Lead-free brass enjoys one of the highest resistances to

corrosion, is versatile making it better to bend, shape or mold, and durable

making it the very best choice for faucets. Always look for faucets that are
made of lead-free brass.

4. FAUCET STYLES CAN IMPACT CLEANING/MAINTENANCE

Buying a new faucet can have a dramatic impact on improving the look of

a bathroom. As the centerpiece of the sink it’s often the focal point, so

there’s a lot to consider when it comes to the design elements. It might seem
easy, but it can be more complicated that you think. A bathroom faucet is a

big factor in the overall aesthetics of your bathroom, so you have to pick the

best.

An often-overlooked consideration when choosing a bathroom faucet is,

how easy is it to clean? Does it feature intricate patterns that become traps

for dirt and grime?

Pro-Tip:

Water spots are inevitable in a
bathroom. If you want your faucet
to shine without much effort, look
for faucets that have smooth
design elements that make it easy
to give it a quick wipe down and
have it look new.

5. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES IN FAUCET WATER SAVING

CERTIFICATIONS? HOW DO CEC, WATERSENSE, AND OTHER

CERTIFICATIONS AFFECT FAUCET PERFORMANCE?

Clean, fresh water is a vital resource. More than 97% of water on Earth is

saltwater, leaving only 2.5% as fresh water. With severe droughts
happening in the world, conserving water means using our water supply

wisely and responsibly, keeping our limited supply pure and away from

pollution. Saving water today helps ensure a sufficient supply for the future.

To help meet water conservation needs, the US Environmental Protection

Agency (EPA) launched the WaterSense program in 2006 to encourage
water efficiency with consumer products. For bathroom faucets, this meant

reducing the typical flow rate from 2.2 gallons per minute (GPM) down to

1.5-GPM. Then, in 2016, the California Energy Commission (CEC)
introduced a new standard for bathroom faucets mandating that new faucets

have a max flow rate of 1.2-GPM. Reducing the flow rate to 1.2-GPM has

not resulted in negatively affecting use of the faucet.

Pro-Tip:

When choosing a faucet, look
for a faucet that has been CEC
CEC 1.2 certified to help maximize your

water savings.

6. HAVE A 4” CENTERSET AND PREFER A SINGLE POST?

Centerset faucets are often referred to as 4-inch centerset because the

measurement represents the distance between the faucet handles and their

corresponding mounting holes. Centerset faucets have three-hole
configurations, left and right holes for hot and cold-water support lines, and

the faucet’s spout sits over the center mounting hole.

Unlike a three-hole mounting configuration, a faucet using a single handle

is called a single post and therefore only needs a single mounting hole. It

combines both hot and cold-water inlets through the single-mounting hole.

A centerset faucet can be replaced with a single-lever faucet without

replacing the countertop because single post faucets typically contain a

deckplate that covers all three holes. The hot and cold-water lines are still
connected through the middle hole to the faucet as usual.

Pro-Tip:

If you currently have a 4”
centerset faucet, understand that
you are not limited to replacing it
with another 4” centerset faucet,
you can actually switch to a single
post faucet if it better suits your
design goals and taste.

7. KNOW WHAT COMES WITH THE SET YOU ARE BUYING

Many faucet manufacturers have different hardware they include with the

faucet. For example, does it include a quality, cUPC certified pop-up drain?
Discounted sets such as those at big box retail stores often require a lot of

extras that should have been included in a typical set (but are not) and are

therefore not as good a value for the money as anticipated.

Pro-Tip:

Before buying, look into what is
included in the box and

FAUCETS determine if it requires
purchasing extra parts.

8. BONUS TIP: WANT EXTRA VALUE? CHOOSE A FOUNTIAN FAUCET

Today’s faucets have not been designed to meet our needs. Basically, they

have never truly evolved from their original conception – water comes out

and goes down into the sink. But we have many functions that would be
better served by adding a water fountain feature, and Nasoni has done just

that. This award-winning, patented fountain faucet makes life easier for

users by making it easier to:

Rinse after brushing teeth

Rinse makeup/hair/shaving cream
Serve as a home eyewash station

Get a drink of clean, filtered water

Take pills/vitamins

Nasoni’s ADA compliant fountain faucets also help make life easier for those

dealing with health-related issues like vertigo, Parkinson’s, MS, and back

pain. The faucet’s fountain feature is also scientifically proven to be cleaner
than using a nondisposable cup. So not only does it make life easier and saves

water, but it’s also inherently a safer way to drink.

And lastly, when Nasoni’s dynamic fountain flow technology redirects the

flow to create a water fountain, the flow rate is reduced to .26gpm for a
massive water savings, which results in saving water without even trying! It

is one of the most water efficient faucets ever made and has received 6 green

certifications from IAPMO.
