Intentional Living

“Therefore I do not run without a definite goal; I do not flail around like one
beating the air just shadow boxing” (1 Cor. 9:26 AMP).

The beginning of a year is al-
ways a good time to reflect upon
life. How has life been going? What
areas of your life would you like to
be different than they are? So a lot
of people will make new year’s reso-
lutions seeking to change those un-
desirable areas of their lives, or to
improve certain areas that they
would like to make better. While it
maybe true that very few people ac-
tually follow through with their reso-
lutions, there is still value in making
them as they can improve a person’s
life even for a short period of time.
Beyond that, a person who sets goals
for their lives is much more likely to
achieve those goals than those who
never set goals. Ultimate success in
attaining goals is measured by intentionality. Are you going to follow through on
your goals?

As Christians, God has called us to a lifetime of growth. His plan for our lives
is that we would become conformed into the image of His Son (Rom. 8:29). And
as we study God’s Word, we find that God has desires for our lives in many areas.

“Coe Church of Christ exists to reach out to the lost, and to train people to maturity in Christ
through discipleship, worship, and fellowship, completely following God’s Word.”

Missions Moment: Workers for Mexico
We as the Coe Church of Christ are committed to fulfilling the Great Commis-
sion (Matt. 28:18-20). And a part of that is through sending missionaries
around the globe. Ten percent of all that we receive goes to support our various
missionaries. Therefore, as a part of this congregation, you are making a global
difference in people’s lives. So we would like to help inform, inspire, and im-
plore you to be praying for those that we support.

Workers for Mexico celebrated their 25th Anniver-
sary of existence in May. Clinton Looney, missionary
in Mexico since 1961, joined with Francis Nash, and
under the eldership of Nash’s church, Sugar Grove
Christian, formed a new mission. The mission would
partner with Looney and take over the support of
many Mexican ministers and begin expansion into
other programs.

As of December 2021, Workers for Mexico consists Mexican Christian University Stu-

God has goals for us:
• Our spiritual life of faith (2 Cor. 3:18; 5:17; Col.
3:10)
• Our families (Josh. 24:15)
• Our fitness (1 Cor. 6:19-20; 3 John 1:2)
• Our finances (Pro. 3:9; Rom. 13:8)
• Our free-time (Luke 7:31-32)
• Our life’s work/calling (1 Peter 4:10)

Simply put, God has goals for our entire lives (Col. 3:17).

Yet before we can even pursue the goals that God has
for our lives, we need to gain understanding into Godly values and priorities. Values define us
and bind us together, drive decisions in all of our interactions, and never change. Priorities,
on the other hand, are tasks requiring action, that must be managed daily, and the method for
accomplishing our priorities may shift based on a given situation. But, even though priorities
are the starting points for your day-to-day activities, your values should always guide your
actions.

Once we have a solid understanding of Godly values and God’s priorities for our lives,
then and only then can we properly understand God’s goals for the various areas of our lives.
However, simply having an understanding of God’s goals for our lives is not enough. We
need to apply those goals, pursue after them, and refuse to give up on our goals.

In route to living an intentional life, we will encounter several obstacles. Therefore, over
the next several weeks, we will take time to consider how to live intentionally. So I encourage
you to join us on Sunday mornings. Apart from that, I want to encourage you to take some
time to carefully think through the things that you value and the priorities that are most im-
portant to you as they will help in directing your goals for intentional living. To assist you in
that, consider the following reflection questions:
1. Reflect on your lifestyle and how you spend your time. How well does your life reflect

your core values? Pull out your calendar if it’s handy and see how your schedule reflects
your real values and priorities. Be specific.
2. What values and priorities would you like to pass on to your children/grandchildren, or
others whom you love?
3. What are you doing right now to model and to teach your values and priorities to others?
4. What are three things you want to start doing this week in order to begin instilling your
core values and priorities in your child/or someone you love?
I am convinced that as we seek to become more intentional in our lives, we will make
2022 the best year of our lives. So I look forward to hearing your success story!

In Christian love,
Matt
