I recently read an article about why Spring is the best season. It listed reasons like renewal, growth, new beginnings, more hours in the day, and warmer weather. My thank yous this month are for some of the people who have helped Word develop a reputation for being a welcoming, loving, warm church. Thank you to the men in the parking lot and at the doors that greet us as we come for worship. The presence, assistance, and service of the Stronghold Keepers sets an atmosphere for the campus and communicates that WTC is a place where men are present and engaged. Thank you for enabling those who come to feel protected and able to freely worship. Thank you to the Greeters Ministry which welcomes each visitor, member, and partner. I hear so often how warm and welcoming Word is to visitors. You all serve so faithfully, consistently, and willingly and many of you have done so for years. Thank you! Angela Watkins Gailliard Finally, thank you to the Administration Team. You answer the phone, receive visitors, and welcome guests with a smile. Your hospitality exceeds expectations. Thank you for your sacrifice of time to serve and support the ministry. Public facing service is not always easy. You all do it well. Thank you for making Word Tabernacle Church feel like Spring all year long with the great warmth with which you each serve! If you are not actively serving in a ministry and would like to be a part of making Word Tabernacle Church a wonderful place of ministry, please go to the website – www.wordtab.net and click on Serve. Happy Spring!! Peace and Blessings, Lady Angela Gailliard Happy Spring!

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE SENIOR PASTOR Dear Family, Partners, and FriendsApproximately six months ago, I participated in a re-entry simulation exercise and to say it was enlightening is an understatement. During this simulated “4-week” process of reentering society post-incarceration, I became homeless, I could not afford to eat, pay for the mandatory drug-testing and treatment nor could I travel to work because I had no money. Ultimately, I was stripped of my dignity and self-worth. The harsh reality is that I became so overwhelmed with a sense of hopelessness, I simply returned to prison…willingly. This experience gave me some insight into the United States having the highest recidivism rate in the world. IN THE WORLD! In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the challenges faced by individuals re-entering society after incarceration. Within the re-entry process, transitioning from prison back into the community is often filled with obstacles that can hinder successful integration and increase the likelihood of recidivism. Understanding the complexities of re-entry and addressing the underlying factors contributing to recidivism is crucial in breaking the cycle of incarceration. For many people, leaving prison does not mark the end of their journey but the beginning of a new set of challenges, oftentimes a chain reaction, leading one back to the prison cell. Limited job opportunities, coupled with the stigma of having a criminal record are challenges. Housing instability is another significant barrier. Without a safe and stable place to live, individuals may be more likely to return to criminal activity or become homeless, further exacerbating their challenges. Access to healthcare and mental health services is also a critical aspect of successful re-entry. Many individuals leaving prison have unmet healthcare needs, including physical and mental health conditions that may have been exacerbated during their incarceration. Without access to proper medical care and support services, individuals may struggle to address their healthcare needs, leading to poorer outcomes and an increased risk of recidivism. Recidivism, or the tendency of individuals to re-offend and return to prison, is a prevalent issue in the criminal justice system. One of the key drivers of recidivism is the lack of effective re-entry programs and support services for returning citizens. Without access to programs that address their needs and provide support during the transition process, individuals may find themselves ill-equipped to navigate the challenges of re-entry, increasing the likelihood of re-offending. We cannot ignore the systemic issues of poverty, racism, and inequality playing a significant role in perpetuating the cycle of incarceration and recidivism. Individuals from marginalized communities are disproportionately impacted by the criminal justice system and may face additional barriers to successful re-entry, including discrimination and lack of access to resources and opportunities. james david gailliard jdgailliard jdgailliard SECOND CHANCE RE-ENTRY SIMULATION Weekend How can the local church assist? I am glad you asked. It is imperative we recognize the importance of spiritual support and guidance for individuals throughout their incarceration, and while transitioning through the pre-reentry and re-entry processes. By incorporating a spiritual foundation into re-entry programs and support services, we can create holistic approaches addressing the spiritual, emotional and psychological need of returning citizens. In the midst of these challenges many individuals find solace, strength and safety through the church, as it can, and should, provide a source of hope, healing and guidance during the re-entry process. For some, reconnecting with their faith community or participating in regular spiritual practices can offer a sense of belonging and support as they navigate the challenges of re-entry. The teachings of Jesus Christ, including forgiveness, redemption, and second chances, can inspire individuals to embrace the opportunity for personal growth and transformation. Being spiritually supported can also play a role in addressing the underlying issues that contribute to criminal behavior, such as trauma, addiction, and mental illness. Building strong connections with the church, faith-based organizations and spiritual leaders can provide individuals with valuable resources, support, and community networks to aid in their reintegration into society. By embracing spiritual principles of compassion, forgiveness, and redemption, we can create a more compassionate and supportive environment that fosters healing, growth, and positive transformation for individuals returning from incarceration. Although we have the Prison Outreach Ministry, and partner with people and organizations such as Marion Frazier and Let’s Start Over, throughout my re-entry simulation experience, I began to think about how Word Tabernacle Church could become more intentionally engaged in this process while bringing awareness to the barriers faced by the women and men who were formerly incarcerated. Both state-wide and nationally, April is Second Chance Month. We will be hosting a Special Edition Men’s Roundtable: Second Chance Weekend. Saturday, April 6th, there will be a Re-entry Simulation during which up to 100 adults, both men and women, will have the opportunity to participate; and Sunday, April 7th, we will have Second Chance Sunday. I am encouraging you to participate in this eye-opening process, and I am inviting you to participate in our Second Chance Sunday Worship experience. We embody our Core Values, and we are committed to our Areas of Engagement. Investing in those currently incarcerated and those re-entering the community calls for us to activate them both. In Jesus, there is Justice. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me…to proclaim liberty to the captives.” Luke 4:18 (NKJV)

NEXT GEN I’m so thankful to be connected to people and places that allow such great experiences for my children and their friends! KUDOS TO THE ONE AND ONLY Khatari Lane Jr. for his amazing dedication and work and investment! “Ruby” was a labor of love for him and the crew and it is always beautiful to see people’s passions come to life! ~Youth Pastor, Kyle D. Johnson Khatari Lane Khatari is a Rocky Mount native. This was his directorial debut! Outside of working with students at WTC, he also does shows with the Imperial Centre. He made his first debut in “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” as Reverend Hopkins. Since then he has played Pablo from “Sister Act: The Musical”, The Voice of God/Ensemble in “Little Shop of Horrors”, Chadwick and Fake Santa in “Elf”: The Musical”, and Joe in “9 to 5: The Musical”! He is very active at church as a student and choir director. He is a member of the Nash Central Marching Bulldogs, the NCHS Central Singers (Show Choir), and works as an After-school Teacher/Tutor here at Word. The Word Tabernacle Drama Ministry presented “Ruby: The Story of Ruby Bridges," a musical depicting the life and experiences of Ruby Bridges, the first African American child to attend a formerly Whites-only school in Louisiana during the New Orleans School desegregation. Family, friends, and Wordites flooded the CPAW on a Saturday afternoon to enjoy this presentation brought to life by our Next Generation Ministry. The 2024 Lenten season has come The 2024 Lenten season has come and gone. Word Tabernacle members and gone. Word Tabernacle members were blessed by the experience of were blessed by the experience of drawing closer to God through drawing closer to God through individual and corporate devotions, individual and corporate devotions, fasting, and more. “For me, it's been clarity. Blocking out all the noise and distractions and giving God His time unrushed and focused on His word so I can hear whatever He's saying. I'm appreciating this season God has me in.” – Marvin Dew "God really convicted me about being committed to doing what He's called me to do. There was a season in my life where I was kind of sluggish, and that's not me. During this Lenten season, God has really been touching my heart and got me in a refreshing place of starting all over again. It's like a jumpstart and now I'm ready to keep running and doing what God has called me to do.” - Minister Lorenza Johnson "Lent 2024 has been a season of spiritual and personal growth for me. I prayed before Lent began and asked God to show me my sins and help me to be quick and authentic in confession, repentance, and returning to Him. One of the major things He revealed to me early on was my approach, my perspective. I had been viewing Lent in terms of what I was going to give up rather than be open to what I was going to gain from it. He helped me to see that the goal of this Lent season was about getting closer to Him and authentically reflecting Jesus in my walk with and witnessed to Him. The embracing of God's Word was really speaking to me and transforming me from the inside out as it is received, believed and applied in personal, practical ways is the most notable ways that this Lent season has brought forth in my life. The corporate devotional times at 6 a.m. have been especially helpful. I know I won't be the same.” - Alethea Hudson “Transparency: When I first thought about Lent, I was just doing it out of obligation. But, now something has shifted for me. It seems as if I have a type of energy in my Spirit. I'm no longer feeling obligated. Now I’m determined and motivated to get closer to God. He has given me a new vigor to want to serve God and His Purpose. It means more than just giving up something. It's about finding my purpose and executing it. I’ve been blessed by it.” – Minister Joseph Beach "This was my first time participating in the Lenten season. Fasting and 6 a.m. devotions for 40 days was a journey I wanted to take to deepen my faith and get to a place where God would reveal things to me. In the beginning, I thought, "I can do this. I can give up sweets, coffee, and lemonade.". Two weeks in, I drank coffee, in order to stop suffering from daily headaches from caffeine withdrawal. My experience has been both a b and a challenge. I am grateful that even in my falli lessing ng short, God has showed me several things. God is so faithful. God shows me when I mess up so that I can make a course correction and get to where He wants me to be. God showed me that I was afraid to suffer. God clearly said to me “Is that cup of coffee worth los with the body and your blessings?”God revealed to m ing unity e is that He wants to work His power in and through me and that I must put my faith over fear. God reminded me that even when I’m afraid, do it anyway because with me. I am thankful for this time of reflection a He is nd opportunity to line up with God’s purposes. I’m grateful for the sacrifice that Jesus made for me that gives me the access to eternal life, blessings and privileges beyond my wildest dreams. I’m growing. I’m turning. I that are ’m moving forward.” - Yvette Richardson “Let’s just say, the Lord has been showing me, me! I’ve been convicted in so many areas of my life that I hadn’t fully given to Him.” - Danielle Cunningham “I have to remember that God is the planner and that’s one thing I’ve been working on, knowing that God is in control and I’m not.” -Shaquitta Fleming

STAFF SPOTLIGHT Antoneah “ANT” Daughtrey Antoneah “ANT” Daughtrey Broadcast Studio Engineer INTERSECTIONS 12 Article by Jessie Nunery

Antoneah “Ant” Daughtrey’s first conversation with Pastor James Gailliard was innocent enough.Pastor G met Ant when she was working behind the scenes for a local TV station, and he told her that she should come check out the new broadcasting studio that was being built at Word Tabernacle Church. Ant agreed, and in January 2020, she took a job at WTC believing that she would take on some social media responsibilities and video content. Then the world — and the focus of her new job — changed. “The world shut down,” Ant said of the March 2020 arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic. “COVID shaped my whole job.” For as many people who have walked through the doors of The Impact Center for a worship experience, there have been even more who have utilized the E-city campus to remain plugged into WTC streaming opportunities. Ant, now in her fourth year as a staff member, has played a major role in ensuring many WTC broadcasts reach the online community in excellence. “I’ve never been in charge of something to this extent,” said Ant, who graduated from Barton College with a broadcast journalism degree. “This job has shaped me.” It’s a task she doesn’t take lightly, but one she does well. During a recent Midweek Worship service, Ant is in the control room simultaneously monitoring multiple screens, ensuring the live feeds are running and giving directions to one of the ministry volunteers. Whether it is an extended ad lib by a choir member, or an abrupt pivot by Pastor G in his Bible Study that directs the congregation to a new verse of scripture, Ant and her team must be ready to make sure that the broadcast adapts to the service. Ant said those decisions and responsibilities are doubled on Sunday mornings, where the service is more complex and contains more graphics, worship songs and participants. As the E-city community has grown not just domestically, but globally, the importance of broadcast quality has become one that is trusted by the masses. “There’s pressure,” Ant said. “It’s overwhelming at times. The way I am, I want it to be good. People’s salvation is on the line.” Making WTC available online has been a multi-million dollar undertaking. Ant points out that “state-ofthe-art is not just a tagline.” There are always discussions involving ways to improve or do something new within the experience. There were days during COVID where Ant figured out things as they happened. She is thankful for the volunteers past and present who have contributed to the success. “Compliments are cool, but it’s not just me,” Ant said. “It’s a team effort. It’s all of us. We’ve done this together.” Ant — a Suffolk, Virginia native — said she is sure her grandmother is happy to see her working for a church. It’s an experience she can be proud to have been a part of. “It has been amazing,” Ant said.

MINISTER BEATRICE LOU WILLIAMS KIM KING VIOLA PIERCE In the Women's Ministry Book Club, we read and discuss books relatable to the Bible, where we can apply those Biblical principles to everyday living. Each Book Club discussion challenges us and helps us to expand our knowledge of God and our love for Him and others. The Women's Ministry Book Club is an effective group whereby, we as Christian women, can experience spiritual growth in the Lord and our own spiritual well-being. I love being a member of the Book Club. Women of all ages socially come together to support, encourage, empower, and uplift one another in their Christian faith. We provide spiritual guidance amongst each other. I absolutely value the time that I assemble on Wednesday evening, as well as participate in group activities that foster fellowship and build meaningful relationships with other Christian women. Book Club coming soon! Small Group Testimonials Being a part of the Book Club has been an amazing journey for me; connecting with a group of women who all share a common goal to uplift God and learn from each other's experiences and perspectives. The bond of sisterhood we've formed is something I truly value—it's more than just a group of people reading together. It's a support system that has helped me grow in so many ways. I've gained not only spiritual insight, but also emotional and mental strength from our discussions and shared moments. This experience has brought me incredible joy, and I'm thankful for the personal growth and the sense of community it has provided. I enjoy going to Church At Study with my mom because I like seeing her teach in public what she also teaches me in private. I also get to learn wisdom from other facilitators and adults. I must admit, sometimes I want to go home after service to rest from a usually busy week. Once class starts, I’m ok and it’s always a lesson that I can use as I learn more about God. My mom tells me, the earlier you develop a personal relationship with Christ, the less U-turns you’ll have to make in life. Church At Study provides a structured environment for adults to deepen their understanding of the Bible, strengthen their faith, and grow spiritually. It reminds me of Sunday School that I used to attend in my younger years. Church At Study is an impactful platform, where we can all engage and participate in a shared learning experience. I am elated to be a part of such a phenomenal group, where the leaders exercise their Biblical knowledge and we, as adults/members, can develop a sense of belonging and unity within the church community and establish spiritual maturity. Church At Study is one of the most effective ways to take a deeper dive into God’s Word. To study and learn along with others is an investment that grows our relationship closer to God. Whatever you need, you can find it in God’s Word! The after-church Bible study is very enriching. We can clarify misinformation handed down over generations. We are also able to rightly divide the word, where each person can participate in discussions for clarity. “Live It” (a segment at the end of each lesson) encourages us to practice what has been taught. When we face mental health struggles, it’s easy to feel isolated and lonely. Humans have been dealing with mental health for a long time. There are some Bible stories that you know and know well, but miss the aspect of mental health in the story. I want you to remember as you read this article “Sovereignty of God. ”The FIRST Bible story and the person I want to talk about is David. We can find David’s bout with pride, family issues, and depression in 2 Samuel chapters 11-13. David lusted after Bathsheba, a married woman, conceived a child and used his power to cover up his mistake. He ends up having Bathsheba’s husband killed in battle and then losing his infant son that he conceived with Bathsheba, then losing his other son after that son rapes his half-sister. We see the mental anguish that David is going through when he cries out to God in Psalms 38 and 42, they both are a state of his MIND. Even in David’s worst moments, mental struggle, and depressive states, David was LOVED BY GOD. David’s story gives all of us hope that it’s never too late to cry out to God in our time of grief, depression, anxiety, or mental struggle. God can always use us now regardless of our past. Psalm 34: 17-18 (ESV): When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. W H A T D O E S G O D S A Y A B O U T Y O U A S A W H O L E ? Article by Minister Nedra Maryland

The SECOND Bible story and the person I want to talk about is Naomi. Here is what we can find with Naomi in Ruth 1-4 dealing with the death of loved ones and bitterness. Naomi’s story found in Ruth sheds some light on the kind of anguish that comes from losing loved ones and facing bitterness. When Naomi lost her husband and two sons, this caused her to feel that God was dealing bitterly with her. Naomi was so bitter she asked people to start calling her “Mara” which means bitter. Life and depression had a grip on Naomi. To the point that the townspeople didn’t even recognize her. Naomi begins to live out her life through the lens of grief and loss. She was unable to see who she was and the real reason why she was left to live out her days. God always sends someone to love and care for you even in your darkest days, he did this through Ruth (Naomi’s daughter-in-love). Throughout the chapters, Ruth’s love gives Naomi a reason to live on. Even in the parts of our stories that bring struggles, anxiety, and hopelessness, we can always know that God is working, and his plan is greater than anything we can imagine or hope for. 1 Peter 5:10 (NIV): And the God of grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast. The THIRD and final Bible story and person I want to talk about is Job. We know from the beginning that Job is “UPRIGHT”, “BLAMELESS” and a man of “DEEP INTEGRITY”. We also know from the beginning that Satan wants to test Job just like he wants us to see if he remains faithful to God. To no surprise, we watch as we read Job 1-44 that Job experienced anguish and pain in so many different forms, the death of his children and servant, lost of property, and had bodily sores. Job curses the day he is born and even wishes for death. Job questions and many of our questions when we feel hopeless, lost and anguish are “What have I done? Why is God punishing me?” The way God answers Job’s stubbornness is with humility. “How can we as humans begin to explain the actions of God?” God does not like to see you and I suffer, but our suffering is not a destination or even our whole story. God’s plan is bigger and goes further than our hopelessness, loss, and anguish. When we realize God is the ultimate authority, it can put our suffering into perspective. In the end, God blesses Job with his health back, twice the amount of property, more children, and gives him a long life. Even in our hopelessness, loss, and anguish, we need to hold to that God has the power to give, take away, and give again. Isaiah 40: 31 (ESV): But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they should run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. The enemy will always try to convince you and me there is no hope or that seeing a counselor is pointless, from personal experience that’s so far from the truth. We should care for our SPIRIT, SOUL, AND MIND they all impact our physical well-being and our relationships with God, family, and friends. The Bible tells us that our God is big enough to overcome whatever we are facing. It may not be easy, but the assurance is that He is with us every step of the way. No matter the age, a 12-year-old child or a 72-year-old adult, God is our strength in every situation. For additional information on counseling, contact the counseling division at [email protected]. And the God of grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:10

Interview and story by Miyoko Delk and Jessie Nunery The Flowers Family Living INTERSECTIONS 20 with AUTISM

A a r o n F l o w e r s Dwight and Tameika Flowers have been married for 15 years and have been members of WTC since 2011, the year their son, Aaron, was born. Dwight is a barber by trade and is part owner of Kingdom Kutz Inc. Tameika is a graduate of North Carolina Central University and has been employed with Pfizer for 20 years. They both love God and are excited about the journey that He has them on. "The best is yet to come! Just before Aaron turned 3 years old, he was diagnosed with Autism. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1 in 6 children have been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), which is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. Some people with ASD may have advanced conversation skills, while others may be nonverbal. Aaron is mostly non-verbal but has spoken some words and once an entire sentence. Despite his diagnosis, Aaron is thriving. He is a 7th-grader at Pattillo Middle School, and he was recently inducted into the National Jr. Beta Club. Tell us about Aaron. Aaron loves to smile and laugh. He loves music, YouTube, swimming, and dancing. His favorite foods are pepperoni pizza, shrimp, macaroni and cheese, and French fries. What type of music does Aaron enjoy? Aaron enjoys praise and worship-type music. What does your support system look like for Aaron? We have a wonderful support system when it comes to Aaron. My mom and sister are our biggest supporters along with a few other family members and friends. His teachers love him. What have you and Dwight learned about yourselves as parents since Aaron's diagnosis? This journey has not been easy, but it has taught us patience and unconditional love We have prayed for healing since we received Aaron’s diagnosis. We know that God can do it, but even if He chooses not to, He still gets the glory! We say, “Our plans were not God’s plans.” What would you tell people about Aaron/Autism who aren't educated on Autism? I would tell them that there is nothing wrong with Aaron but he just requires a different type of learning experience/environment. When people think of Autism, they tend to think that something is wrong. There's nothing wrong with Aaron, he's just different. What guidance would you give parents/guardians whose children have been given an autism diagnosis? Early intervention is crucial. Utilize the different therapies that are offered such as Speech and Occupational therapy. It’s also important to join support groups. What role has WTC, if any, play in Aaron's development? Most people seem to love Aaron and embrace him when they come into contact with him. Is there anything we can do to support Aaron and others with autism? We have participated in the Eastern Run Walk for Autism in Greenville since 2018. Proceeds will fund local programs of the Autism Society of North Carolina. This year’s event takes place on Saturday, April 6 at Greenville Town Common. More information is listed at autismsociety-nc.org. Donations can be made to “Team Aaron.”

SPOTLIGHT WITH WTC FINANCE TEAM Lead by Teikisha Anderson Proverbs 3:6, 9-10: “In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” Article written by Joyce Williams INTERSECTIONS 22

Teikisha, thank you for taking the time today to speak with me about your service as the Finance Team Leader at Word Tabernacle Church (WTC) here in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Q: Teikisha, let’s begin with a bit about your back story, and what interested you about Finance, Marketing, and Accounting. Also, can you give me a fun fact about yourself that most people may not know? I have always had a love for numbers ever since I was a little girl. I remember imagining the dining room was my office. Sitting at the table with a yellow notepad scribbled with gibberish, and an old calculator, resting the phone’s handset between my ear and shoulder talking to clients as early as age 5. I would be intrigued by movies like 9-to-5, Boomerang, and Strictly Business. I wanted to be someone big in corporate. The first large word I learned to spell was entrepreneur. I knew that’s what I wanted to be one day. I found people who could type quickly and use a 10-key (by touch) and the business sector always fascinated me. I went to school in the 90’s when computer science was a popular field but quickly realized the tech world wasn’t for me, so I changed my major to business administration at N.C. Central University (NCCU) and accounting while attending Nash Community College. I’ve been grateful to God for allowing me to continue to pursue Accounting, Business Management, and Marketing degrees, and will be looking forward to whatever else God has planned for me in the future. A fun fact about me is that I have my motorcycle license and rode with my husband Keith occasionally on my Kawasaki Vulcan 650 before I sold it. I’m holding onto the license until I get my Harley Trike. Q: Wow, you must be a whiz with numbers and that’s a pretty cool fun fact. Motorcycles can be a thrill to ride. Now, let’s delve more into your role at Word Tab. How long have you been a member of WTC and what do you love about attending services? When did you start your service with the finance team? I have been attending Word Tabernacle since late 2010 and joined in February 2011. I have been on the finance team for almost 10 years and it’s great to work with an amazing group of people. I believe that God directed me to Word at a vital time in my life. I grew up in a private Lutheran school and got saved in my late 20s, but until I got to Word, I never heard the Bible contextualized and taught in such a way as Pastor Gailliard did. I was able to apply the lessons to equip me to become a better person, a better mother, a better daughter, and eventually a wife. Most importantly, I was able to develop a deeper relationship with God.

I have been taking notes from Pastors' sermons since 2011 and I enjoy referring back to them to see the journey of what's been instilled in me. I like to believe that I have always been a good person but there were some areas of darkness in my life. I am grateful for the growth and transformation that Word Tab and the Bible has taught me. I am a proud member and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I am excited about what God has in store for our church and our community. Q: A lot of changes have been made in the last 14 years since you became a member. What does a day look like now when you’re counting tithes and offerings from church members and guests? The ways to give monetarily have changed a lot over the years at WTC. Greeters would pass the baskets through the aisles and the finance team would stand at the front to collect them. Even when there were 4-5 services, we would count each offering after each service. Fast forward 19 years in a post-pandemic, touchless era and you’ll see the majority of members give electronically while others prefer to mail or drop their offering in one of the four drop boxes we have on site. Since we cannot collect envelopes from the boxes until service has concluded, we’ve had to implement a different system. Our system assures that every cent is accounted for before we call it a day. Accuracy is essential in our ministry. We’ve recently incorporated a new procedure and are excited to streamline our process to reduce processing time. However, I can’t recall a time when anyone on the team complained about serving. We understand our duty is to serve and please God, and we enjoy what we do. Q: How many members do you have on the finance team and what are their names, titles and duties? There are currently 14 members on the Finance team. Teikisha Anderson, Finance Team Leader Teikisha is responsible to ensure the team operates to full efficiency and gets the task completed every week. Team leaders inform the members of any changes in procedures, notifications, creates serving schedules, quarterly meetings, manage supplies, works with church’s financial team and trains new team members. Lillie Arrington, Assistant Team Leader Mrs. Arrington was very instrumental as the team leader in our Tarboro location and we’re thankful she chose to continue to serve on the finance team in Rocky Mount. She has assisted the team leader with ministry fairs, attending meetings and other duties as needed. James Feaster, Records Manager Mr. Feaster is essential to our team. As a long-term member, he ensures our records and documentation are properly recorded and well-maintained. Shavanda Rountree We are thankful to have Shavanda on our team since she’s transitioned into her new role as Director of Business Services at Word Tabernacle. She is responsible for maintaining our deposits and informing the team leader of any discrepancies in the bank and ordering envelope stock. INTERSECTIONS 24

Other Finance Team members are as follows: Clarence Arrington Lenita Arrington Gladys Battle Cara Brown Cynthia Bynum Christi Davis Sarai Finley Quentin Hill Allen Pierce Shirley Slade Q: It sounds like you have put together an amazing team and you all work well together. What does the future of the finance team look like? Is there anything you’d like to share that is in store for the team going forward? The finance team works like a well-oiled machine. We don’t make a lot of noise because it runs smoothly most days. We simply do what we do, and that is count the money. I am fortunate to serve with members who have been serving much longer than I have and who are familiar with how the ministry functions as well as those who are new who can bring in innovative ideas and insight. Pastor Gailliard and the Word Tab executive team do an excellent job of keeping leaders informed of any upcoming changes so that we can properly prepare and make adjustments as needed. With the newly announced worship times, our team understands it will require a little more commitment and time from us. We are grateful to belong to a church with members who give faithfully and believe, with constant growth, that we will thrive together to be a bigger impact to our community. If processing offering envelopes and counting each week helps to make that happen, then we are grateful for the part that we play in the process. As long as God is getting the glory, we are humbled and honored to serve. If you’re interested in becoming a member of the Finance Team at WTC, please email them at [email protected].
