directs and coordinates ministry and programs. When asked, why did he
accept the call, he responded, "We are all called to serve the Church and
community. Every member serving is so important because God creates
opportunities for all of us to "accept the call" in various ways. We have
unique spiritual gifts and natural interests and abilities to use for the
Kingdom! I also love that He intentionally equips people to do the work He
has called us to do. I said yes because God gave me passion for the very
thing He equipped me to do! I couldn't imagine doing anything else. This is
where I'm supposed to be. This is what I'm supposed to be doing! These are
the people with whom I am supposed to be doing it! I've also learned that it
is always best practice and really wise to simply say "yes" to God. He and

COMMUNITY & COLLABORATION
The REACH Center Selected as Coordinated
Entry Lead for Homeless Prevention Services
The REACH Center is excited to announce a new grant awarded through
N.C. Coalition to End Homelessness (NCCEH) to provide leadership around the
Coordinated Entry process for N.C. Balance of State Continuum of Care. Funding
for this grant was allocated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) as a Supportive Services Only Coordinated Entry (SSO-CE)
grant through the Continuum of Care (CoC) Program.
According to the NCCEH, the purpose of this funding is to improve the
effectiveness of the North Carolina Balance of State Continuum of Care’s
coordinated entry system so more people experiencing homelessness have
access to services. The system is easy to navigate, and households move quickly
from homelessness to permanent housing. The REACH Center will take the lead in
these efforts to support and improve the coordinated entry infrastructure for
region 9 (Edgecombe, Nash, Halifax, Northampton, Vance, Granville, Franklin, and
Warren).
Some of the services offered through the grant include holding regular case
conferencing calls with agencies to review a list of individuals seeking housing
and developing a plan of care, ensure all participating agencies follow written
standards set by the COC and Regional Committee; provide case management
(assessments, crisis counseling, connection to resources, etc.); outreach to meet
urgent physical needs (provide meals, blankets, clothes, toiletries, etc.).
“We have been actively involved in strategy calls around homelessness
prevention and affordable housing across the state. We’re excited to be offered
this opportunity to provide leadership and support to how people experiencing or
at risk for homelessness can better access services for our region.”
The REACH Center will also continue to serve as one of the rehousing agencies for EVERY 1ST THURSDAY
region 9, offering Homelessness Prevention (H.P.) and Rapid Re-housing (RRH)
programs. Homelessness Prevention programs provide temporary rental and
utility assistance to households at imminent risk of becoming homeless and
without options for living with family, friends, or other support networks. Rapid
Re-housing programs help move homeless individuals and families quickly into
permanent housing and achieve stability in that housing.

COMMUNITY & COLLABORATION RIPPLE EFFECTS
WHEN PARTNERING CAUSES RIPPLE EFFECTS
The vision of the Impact Center has always been to build a place that would not only
develop, equip and reach our congregation, but the community as well. In order to make our
community a better place for all to live, we have to come together. We are stronger
together.
It has always been our mission to invest in people; hence, the reason we partner with other Ripple Effects Center - Kenya
organizations. We can't be all things to all people, but we can impact more people by
partnering with other people. One of our community partners is doing just that. Ripple
Effects, located off of Forest Hill Avenue has certainly caught the vision, Everyone Thriving.
It's not unusual to see them feeding senior citizens, providing for families in need, teaching
our youth the power of serving in their community and joining other organizations with
community projects. Ripple Effects is a non-profit Community Transformation Organization.
It was established in 2016, spearheaded by Executive Director, Keisha B. Spivey.
The organization today assists over 600 families each month in the Twin counties. There
are testimonies upon testimonies how they are "reaching the hurting, renewing hope, and
rebuilding possibilities". When you hear about their work in the community you would
assume that it is enough. The organization recently opened Ripple Effects - Africa.
After a trip during the worst pandemic of our times, a group went on a missions' trip to

Here is biblical foundation for effective communication

messages, whether intentional or unintentional, covertly or overtly.
Reference: “Guidelines for Effective Communication”-
All of God’s creation is saying something. Hope For The Heart
Effective communication eliminates ambiguity. It provides clarity for
the sender and receiver. We as humans are reliant on verbal
communication and non-verbal such as hand gestures, facial
expressions, written form, etc.
With all of the higher-order thinking skills that humans possess, there
are times when they still have difficulty communicating clearly.
Effective communication is about much more than giving and receiving
information.
It is about gaining an understanding.
Listening is just as important in communication as speaking. To hear
and not understand nullifies the intent of the message conveyed.
Though some believe that we are good communicators, we say one
thing, and others hear another. It’s at that point that confusion,
frustration, and anger occurs.
“For many of us, communicating more clearly and effectively requires
learning some important skills. Whether you’re trying to improve
communication with your spouse, kids, boss, or coworkers, learning
these skills can deepen your connection to others, build greater trust
and respect, and improve teamwork, problem-solving, and your overall
social and emotional health.”
Some barriers may factor into one communicating ineffectively or
poorly:
1.Stress or out of control emotions, lack of focus
2.Inconsistent body language
3.Negative body language
Below are some guidelines for effective communication:
1.Warmth- conveying acceptance and courtesy
2.Genuineness- having no hidden agenda
3.Empathy- putting oneself in others' circumstances

After developing the Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J Vaccine, we are still facing a CCCOOOVVVIIIDDD---111999

The Impact Center has been one of several sites hosting COVID-19 Vaccine BBBoooooosssttteeerrr CALL FOR

first COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic was held on March 11, 2021, at The Impact DETAILS
Center. Since then, 1,309 vaccinations have been administered.
Because Nash and Edgecombe Counties have a meager percentage of fully VVVaaacccccciiinnneee
vaccinated individuals, the church partnered with Edgecombe County
Health Department to reach as many unvaccinated community members AAAvvvaaaiiilllaaabbbllleee
as possible. Edgecombe County has the lowest rate of the two counties,
with 37.8% being fully vaccinated. On September 7th and 21st, the two
organizations hosted the COVID-19 Vaccination Summer Cash Card
Incentive Event. These events resulted in 220 vaccines given with $20,200
distributed to those 18 and older first dose participants; drivers received
$25.The National Guard assisted with the vaccination clinic.
I asked Christy Arnold, Director of the Health and Wellness Center, about
the Cash Card Incentive. She explained that the goal was to encourage
people to get the COVID-19 Vaccine due to the surge of the Delta variant
causing an increase in the COVID-19 cases. "People have been reluctant in
the past to get the COVID-19 vaccine because of a lack of knowledge and
misconceptions. Now, they're seeing the vaccinations are working. "
James Gailliard, the Senior Pastor at Word Tabernacle Church has been at
the forefront of the vaccination efforts and the implementation of CDC
guidelines to keep everyone safe during this pandemic. The Impact Center
has been a host site not only for the vaccination clinics but a testing site,
food distribution, and a source of counseling for those affected mentally
and emotionally during these times. Pastor Gailliard isn't concerned that
people only come to The Impact Center to get their vaccination, instead he
encourages everyone to find a spot, and get the shot. "The Impact Center is
simply another source to make it convenient for those in need. It is our
goal to see EveryOne Thriving."

OPEN HOUSE AT THE IMPACT CENTER
We were so excited about last month's Open House! So much progress has been made since our S.O.W. Event in May. We enjoyed seeing our
family again and giving you another sneak peek at what Word Tabernacle Church is transforming into! With your continued support and
God’s will and favor, we can continue our mission of “People Empowering People and communities, in EVERY area of life to the glory of GOD."
If you were unable to come out, here are few pics. Also, check out photos from our first rehearsal in CPAW, Center for Performing Arts and
