Care, Respect & Friendship

“It is such a happy and friendly school”

is a comment we hear very frequently when guests from outside the school come to
visit. This ambience of respect and genuine care throughout Wilmington Grammar
School for Boys is something we are very proud of and is of top priority to retain
and develop even further

In 2010, the WGSB student body designed their ‘Learning Charter’ to embed
the ethos which features in every classroom.

As Josh in Year 10 comments
“By empowering the students to think carefully
about the learning environment they wanted
and design the charter themselves, it has
become highly valued across the school. “

“If you give bright able students the encouragement, flexibility,
opportunity and skills to pursue their own learning, then they
will flourish beyond your wildest expectations”

Fulfilling Potential

For 2011 an innovative curriculum has been developed to provide our students
with the best opportunitiesfor their generation. Our design allows students
to gain a varied set of high quality qualifications whilst retaining their
enjoyment for learning throughout their school career.

From Year 7 with the ‘Creative Thinking’ and ‘Reflective Learning’ projects
through to Nationals in Year 8 and 9 , GCSE’s in Years 9,10 & 11 and the
opportunity to study the a variety of ‘A’ levels & the AQA Baccalaureate
Post 16, we offer a curriculum to skill young people for the future.

Years 7, 8 and 9 combine subject specialisms
with the delivery of personal learning and thinking
skills that employers and society now demand

As well as a high quality curriculum within lessons, Wilmington Grammar
School for Boys offers one of the best extra curricular and enrichment
programmes in Kent. This was evidenced in 2010 when the school received
full Extended Schools status followed swiftly by the Platinum Award
from the Dartford Sports Partnership.

High Expectations

As a Grammar School, we have only the highest expectations
of our students.

Challenging academic targets are set from Year 7 and monitored through
personalised support utilising high quality assessment and reporting that
allows students, parents and teachers to monitor progress with immediate
intervention when necessary.

As a school we are also prepared to challenge embedded
social expectations. For example, when Wilmington
students partake in any sporting activities, nothing
but the greatest level of respect to their fellow
participants and figures of authority is tolerated.

The same is true in the classroom and around the school where students
are expected to continually support each other and display empathy
for their peers.

Forward Thinking…

The world is changing at an ever increasing pace and here at
Wilmington Grammar School for Boys we strongly believe
that we should be leading the revolution.

Not only in preparing young people
for the future but also in using the
latest innovations in teaching
and learning to provide class
leading education.
This ethos of creativity, forward
thinking and self belief is also
embedded into Wilmington
students as they progress
through the school.

“Innovation distinguishes
between a leader and a follower”

- Steve Jobs, co founder of Apple

Traditional Values…

However, in our pursuit of excellence we never forget the values
that uphold the strong fabric of the school.

Our community fosters the virtues of respect, justice, faith and courage and we support
students in their understanding of beliefs and cultures from around the world whilst
promoting equality for all.

Most importantly, at Wilmington Grammar School for Boys we believe in Human Scale
Education where children and adults build strong positive relationships and young
people are to be valued as individuals.

“The good leadership and management of this school
have resulted in the good education, high standards and

strong personal development of its students.”

- Ofsted 2007

We believe that everyone has talent and we will do
everything we can to uncover every student’s gifted
skills, sharing their successes and supporting them
to fulfil their potential.

Supporting Talent

Our support of student’s talent covers academic specialisms, sport,
and the arts. For students who have already discovered their personal
talents, we will work with them and their families to ensure that a
perfect balance is found between their studies and developing their
excellence. For other students the school will provide as wide a range

of opportunities as possible and offer encouragement for every
student to unlock their hidden skills.

Current Wilmington Grammar School boys include many young
sportsmen competing at National and International level, a young
actor currently regularly performing on the West End stage and
Grade 8 musicians .

“Ben is so proud of the fact that he has made
it on to the school’s Wall of Fame. The school
have been so flexible in strongly supporting
his studies whilst encouraging him to pursue
his football” - Parent of a Year 10 student.

Caring for the Community

Wilmington Grammar School for Boys students do not
only care for and respect each other but also our local,
national and global communities.

Within the school, each house actively supports its own charity for which
every student becomes involved. In addition, the school actively teaches
understanding and responsibility as other charitable concerns arise.
The school and its students actively support the local Wilmington
and Dartford community, especially through our second specialism
as a Raising Achievement Partner.
Whilst on an international scale, WGSB is part of the connecting
