28 May 2015

Greetings everyone. It’s hard to believe that May is nearly at an end! Fortunately for me, I
escaped being here for the chilly polar blast over the weekend. It’s good to see that so many
students are bringing their jackets to school as an extra layer to keep warm outside.

The 1st of June is Gypsy Day and with that we will be saying farewell
to Annabelle and Olivia Chrystall (off to Limehills) and James, Liam
and Max Wilson (off to Rimu). We wish you all the best. In next two
newsletters we will have some new students to welcome.

Yesterday we held ‘Fun for 4 Year Olds’ in Room Kea. Once again we had an excellent
turnout of prospective enrolments and it looked like the children were having a
wonderful time together.

The Cross Country last Friday went ahead on a very wintery day.
Well done to every competitor for their great efforts and thanks
to all the parents and grandparents who came to cheer us along.
Overall our school did exceptionally well, with many top
placings. Check out the results here in the newsletter.
Special thanks must go to Joyce Wakelin for the fabulous job she
did organising cross country here at school so that everybody
knew how to train, what to do and what will happen on the day.

Last Wednesday night the PTA AGM was held. The following office bearers were elected:
Kirsten Hurley (Chair), Linnet Burns (Deputy Chair), Lianne Bickley (Secretary) and
Monique Smith (Treasurer).
It was great to have some parents attend who had never been to a PTA meeting before.
The PTA very kindly approved the funding for 4 iPads, a reading kit for Whio and Tui to
share and $5 per child towards the Mathletics programme (more about Mathletics in next
week’s newsletter).

Notices
• We still need more supermarket plastic bags please - thanks for those we received last week.
• All cross country tops need to be returned (unwashed and in the plastic bag) to school as soon as

possible.

Best wishes to Room Kakapo students for their camp at Deep Cove next week. I know that
Heidi has done a huge amount of work organising the camp and I’m predicting that the
weather gods will smile! The group will be well supported by an Adventure Southland
instructor and 8 parents. Deep Cove is a really special place and I’m sure you will all have
a fabulous time.

Enjoy your Queens Birthday long weekend.

Regards

Fiona
