FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK...........

Dear Parents & Caregivers

Talofa everyone. Thank you for your attendance at the Learning
Conferences this week. I hope you found these helpful. Our teachers
certainly did. Please don’t hesitate to contact teachers to talk about things
throughout the year. Having a strong relationship between school and
home makes a real difference to the wellbeing and learning progress of our
tamariki.

Congratulations to last week’s winner of the Principal’s
Award for Caring, Sophie Murdoch. In her classroom,
Kakapo, Sophie is a very kind, helpful and hard working
learner. She gets on well with everyone and follows all of
our school values in the playground, on the bus and on the
sports field.

Each day I supervise lunchtime eating for 15 minutes. Something
that I’m noticing a lot is that many children do not like eating the
fruit in their lunchbox and are choosing to leave it uneaten unless
reminded by me. It would be helpful if you talk to your children
about this. I have included in this newsletter some really good tips
from the Heart Foundation about school lunches.

We have been given multiple copies of a new, free magazine
for parents called ‘Tots to Teens’. Please ask Nicky for a copy
of it. If you like it, you may wish to become a subscriber
through Woodlands School.

Yesterday we sent home an information letter about the Southern Zone
Athletics sports on March 20th. If you did not receive it please let us know.

Have a great week.

Regards

Fiona

Room Kea’s Self-portraits

Our self-portraits are done in the style of Lichtenstein (an American artist who favoured old fashioned comic strips
as a subject matter). We lightly sketched our faces onto paper that was full of empty dots, taking care to make sure
our features were in the correct place. Then drew around them with a vivid. After that, we coloured in the dots with felt

pens and shaded around the dots with crayons.
