FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK...........

Dear Parents & Caregivers

Greetings everyone. It’s hard to believe the end of Term 3 is here already! Overall
it has been a really successful term with learning progressing well and students
getting involved in a wide range of activities. Thank you to all whanau for the
support you have given the school and your children throughout the term.

Congratulations to last week’s winner of the Principal’s Award for Caring,
Tamzin Tomlinson. Tamzin has a really positive, friendly and caring
attitude towards others and she is an excellent school leader.

We extend a warm welcome to Samantha Jenkinson who is a trainee teacher from
the University of Canterbury. Samantha is based in Room Tui and will be with us
until mid-November.

We are planning a number of opportunities for community members to
share their views. Some of these dates are listed in the calendar - please
check them out. Our Annual Survey will be emailed to you tomorrow,
there will be a hui for Maori whanau, a Parent Reference Group meeting
for anyone who would like to come and discuss areas of interest and an
information/chat evening about Yr 7&8 education at Woodlands Full
Primary School. More information about these will be sent out during the
first week of next term. Also, over the holidays, either myself or a Board of
Trustees Rep will try and get in touch with all families of older students by
phone to ask your thoughts about school bus transport, an issue the Board
has recently discussed at length but would like to talk in more detail with
parents about.

Arrangements for our pet/fair day are coming along nicely and
it’s good to see our classes involved with their enterprise
projects for sale that day. We do need some more pet judges
so if you know of anyone who could help out with this on
Saturday 29th October, please let us know asap.

Over the holidays there will be painters working here as the outside
of our school is being painted. This should look great when it’s
finished.

Have an enjoyable term break everyone.
Ka kite ano

INTERNET SAFETY

The information night that parents/caregivers attended last week about internet safety with John
Parsons was excellent. Some of his key messages were:

• keep technology out of the bedroom.
• the most important relationship children have is with their Mum and Dad, not with a

computer or cellphone.
• parents are the best teachers of internet safety - take the time to teach children how to

keep themselves safe online. Sit down with them and have a look at what they are doing on
their device. Support them, accept that they will make mistakes and help them learn from
these.

• some online activities have minimum age limits that should be adhered to eg: Facebook is

13+, Grand Theft Auto is 18+.
