In 1999, the Matrix was released to wide acclaim, with Keanu Reeves starring as Neo in a fight
against the machines. With action scenes that were revolutionary to Western audiences, it
immediately became a classic. Many of the guns used in the movie are often available from
users for sale or at auction on GunBroker.com. Here are some of the guns from the movie to
collect if you are a fan of Neo, Trinity, Agent Smith, or any of the characters.
Trinity and Neo: Berettas
Trinity, played by Carrie-Anne Moss, uses a pair of Beretta 84 FS Cheetahs throughout the film.
These Beretta 9mm handguns were chosen as Moss’ hands are small, making the Beretta 92Fs
look too big in her hands. During the lobby fight, Trinity only brings a Micro Uzi and her two
Berettas. Later, Neo uses multiple pairs of 92FSs, dropping empty guns and pulling out loaded
guns instead of reloading while saving Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus.
The Agents: Desert Eagle
Over objections from the movie’s armorer, the writers/directors the Wachowski sisters insisted
the agents, led by Hugo Weaving’s Agent Smith, wield IMI Desert Eagle Mark XIXs. They are
chambered in 50 AE, which can be seen on the slide, especially during the subway duel.
Interestingly, in one scene, Agent Smith shoots about a dozen rounds from the gun, despite it
only holding seven rounds in the mag.
Trinity and Neo: Micro Uzi
During the lobby scene, both Trinity and Neo use Micro Uzis with bent trigger guards. Neo dual-
wields the Micro Uzis to suppress soldiers in cover. It is easy to tell the Micro Uzi apart from the
oft-used Uzi Pistol due to the bent trigger guards, meant to help with full-automatic fire. These
can be quite difficult to find and purchase, but you can also get parts kits.
Apoc: Cobray M11/9
Julian Arahanga’s Apoc’s weapon of choice is the Cobray M11/9 converted to fully automatic.
While it looks like an Ingram MAC 10 or MAC 11, the longer rear receiver betrays it as a Cobray.
As Cobray took over manufacturing the guns with SWD Industries folded, they are often
confused, and Cobrays are frequently used in movies in place of MAC 10s and MAC 11s.
Neo’s Lobby Scene: H&K MP5K
Neo is a fan of dual-wielding guns, and he uses a pair of Heckler & Koch MP5K submachine guns
during the lobby scene. He also picks one up during the virtual armory scene, giving the
signature HK slap to release the bolt. He first grabs these after setting off the metal detector at
the beginning of the lobby scene.
Neo’s M16 Cartwheel
The soldiers that arrive as backup in the lobby scene mainly carry M16s with either three-prong
flash hiders or A1-style birdcage flash hiders. Neo does a cartwheel while firing an M16 during
the scene and then uses another soon after on the rooftop.
With a good eye and some patience, you should be able to find any of these guns or their
relatives, such as a MAC 11 gun, which is frequently used in a variety of other films. The MAC
11 is a popular machine pistol with a compact design.
