Jesse C. Norman-Jesse C. Norman was Doraville's last part-time mayor.
He served three consecutive terms from 1960 through 1965. He then was
succeeded by Linton Broome, who was succeeded by John Wilkins. Nor­
man was reelected in 1971 and served until 1982, when Gene Lively
became Doraville's first full-time mayor. Norman died in November 1982.

A native of Mississippi, Norman served in the U.S. Air Force in
World War II. He and his wife, Helen, came to Georgia in 1945. He
attended Georgia State University and received a bachelor of business
administration degree with honors in 1955.

Norman was employed by the U.S. Public Health Service, Centers
for Disease Control, as a laboratory consultant. He designed and planned
health centers in all 50 states and several foreign countries, including
England, France, Italy, Sweden and South America.

He was a member of Doraville Associate Reformed Presbyterian
Church and was a Mason and a Shriner.

His wife, the former Helen Valentine, was born in Soso, Mississippi.
She is a graduate of Jones Junior College in Ellisville, MS, where she
received an associate of arts degree with a major in journalism.

She is the mother of have four daughters and two sons. She was a
PTA member for 25 years. She is a member of Doraville Associate Re­
formed Presbyterian Church and the Betty Jean Morris Women's Circle.

Mrs. Norman served one term on the Doraville Library Board. From
this, she was appointed to a committee to compile and contribute material
for the History of Doraville, which led to the publication of this book.
