The financial statements comprise balance sheet, the income statement and notes. In our opinion, the financial statements, showing a surplus of 83.245,26 euro, give a true and fair view of the association's financial performance and financial position in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the preparation of financial statements in Finland and comply with statutory requirements. Basis for Opinion We conducted our audit in accordance with good auditing practice in Finland. Our responsibilities under good auditing practice are further described inthe Auditor's Responsibilities for the Audit of Financial Statements section of our report. We are independent of the association in accordance with the ethical requirements that are applicable in Finland and are relevant to our audit, and We have fulfilled our other ethical responsibilities in accordance with these requirements. Moreover, the WFD serves as the expert organisation of deaf people in the lnternational Disability Alliance (lDA) and co-operates with other development and human rights organisations. The WFD promotes deaf people's rights actively in various international contexts. The WFD: - Produces advocacy documents (statements, comments, reports) on human rights of deaf people - Delivers and presents the aforementioned documents to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD Committee), in meetings touching upon Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other relevant treaty bodies and partners (e.9. Committee on the Rights of the Child, CRC, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, OHCHR) - Participates in international events as presenters and panelists. The WFD also directly supports its member associations by e.g. providing support letters, giving advice, informing of funding opportunities, organising human rights training workshops, producing tools and materials in English and lnternational Sign as well as creating the visuals and messages of the lnternational Week of the Deaf campaign.
4 The WFD communicates to its members, followers and donors via news, which are published on its website (https://wfdeaf.org/), newsletter and Facebook page (https://www.face book.comAlVfdeaf . org/) The WFD has an active youth section (World Federation of the Deaf Youth Section, WFDYS), which gathers twice ayeat for board meetings. The WFD secured a grant from the Nippon Foundation to promote the legal recognision of Sign Languages worldwide. lt started on September 2020, and included the hiring of our Sign Language Rights Officer. The project, named "Securing Access to Sign Language Rights", aims to collect evidence of legislations that recognises Sign Languages, to develop a toolkit with information and resources for deaf organisations to advocate in their countries for SL recognition, and to implement several events to disseminate the toolkit and raise awareness regarding SL rights. One side event was held at the United Nations' 13th Conference of States Parties of the UN-CRPD. As a result of this funding the WFD has been able to strengthen its advocacy work inside the lnternational Disability Alliance, and other UN committees and treaty bodies, contributing our deaf views with intersectional focus. Plus, allowed to develop capacity building initiatives aimed to increase participation of national associations of the deaf particularly in reporting process of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The most significant achievements of this project in 2020 were: the development of an online Human Rights Training resourses, Human Rights toolkit for deaf organisations worlwide, and six submissions to various UN reports highlighting the speciflc position of deaf people. These submission were in topics susch as inclusive education, minority rights, COVID-19 and access to health, child rights, sustanaible development goals, racial discrimination, rights of migrant workers to liberty and freedom from arbitrary detention, among others. We started also, through our HRO, the drafting of a General Coment on Sign Language Rights to propose to the UN-CRPD Committee. Some IDA project income was not posted in year 2019. lt included the salary cost reimbursement for salaries of third and fourth quarter of year 2019. lt was posted now to 2019, where it belongs. The total amount of this posting is 36 620,00 euros.
