Rally Italia Sardegna Rally base and service park ALGHERO
are in the west coast town of
DATES // 8 - 11 June 2017 Alghero with special stages CAGLIARI
SURFACE // Gravel in the north of the island.
SERVICE PARK // Alghero
The roads are fast but narrow,
lined with bushes, trees or rocks
so there’s no room for error.

Bad weather during the winter has
meant many roads have been repaired so
we could see them cut up, exposing rocks
and increasing the chance of punctures.

The rally traditionally has some of the !
highest temperatures of the season – putting
more stress on cars, tyres and drivers.

Friday features 125.46km of action including
the return of two classic rough and rocky
tests – Terranova and Monte Olia.

Hard base roads covered by a sandy
surface, which is swept away during
the first pass to leave rougher and
rutted conditions for the second run.

“Some of the roads have been repaired
recently and there has been very little rain
so we expect the stages to be extremely dry
underneath and become rough for the second
pass – that will be a big challenge for tyres.
The character of the stages also means that the
tyre carcass gets stressed in a different way,
with more longitudinal stress rather than the
side forces we normally see on a gravel rally.”

lot of pacenotes and, with visibility in the

It’s important to work on the pacnotes and

CAR SET-UP

chris roberts

Fiesta wrc technician

“The effect of road cleaning in Sardinia is
one of the biggest of the year and we see
the conditions changing a lot from first to
second pass.
The rally is always very demanding on cars
and it’s common to see more damage, so
this year’s new aero packages could take
quite a pounding.
Second pass can get very rough and rutted
so obviously we have to compensate for
that with adjustments to ride height and
suspension.”
