Discuss in at least 5 sentences the
importance of studying the humanities
vis-à-vis the degree program you are

currently enrolled.

It is important that we study what humanities really are because this is where it all
begins. Culture, tradition, human nature, the origin of people, etc. are covered by the
humanities so we just have to study it. By studying this we can make a solution on the
problem we have as a human right now and where we live today. Understanding
humanity makes us also understands ourselves because we are part of it. In the study
of the humanities, we can determine our customs and how we can further improve
them. We can also tackle in the study of the humanities the history of our country and its
leaders and their customs and traits as a leader. As part of humanity, we need to study
it so that we know to adjust to the present time.

AREA 4: Origin and Progress Pinagmulan Exhibit B

First of all, I chose this art section because it explains the Neolithic
period which is shown and told in the video how the lives of people
changed during this period. It is also said in the part of the video that
humans pay more attention to the shape of the stone tools from
biological sites now began appearing polished stone tools primarily
blade-like tools stone adze, show adze and run slip pottery, if before
humans only gathered food from nature now, they learned how to
domesticate plants and animals.

This virtual tour shows the different parts of the museum where each
part of the Area will give us full of wisdom. First shown in the video is
Area 1 which includes the Hall of Masters, Juan Luna Exhibit, and
National Artist Award. Area 2 shows the Reptile Room and Open
Storage. In Area 3 are the Maritime Trade and Jars Wreck of San
Diego. Area 4 includes Origin and Progress Exhibit B and Origin and
Progress Exhibit A&B. As I continued to watch the virtual tour of the
museum I learned many new things about our heroes, history,
different tools in different times, paintings, reptiles, artifacts and old
houses. Through this video I came to appreciate even more the
beauty of the Philippines and its history. I think it’s a good idea to
have museums like this in our country because it preserves our
culture.

Painter: Vicente Manansala

Based on this art I notice that it shows the whole family was
praying together before they eat. One of the traditional cultures of
us Filipinos is to pray before eating to be thankful that we have
something to eat every day. It only shows how much respect
Filipinos give before eating their meals. The message shown here
is that we should still be thankful before eating whatever we have
on the dinner table. He expresses here the common color of us
Filipino which is brown. I can say he did well in his painting
because he uses a simple color. I just kind of noticed that there
seemed to be shapes to be seen in all of his artworks.

MACASAET BUILDING

I think every building has its own unique features and the
Macasaet Building has also one. When it comes to its
uniqueness the building looks pleasant when you see in a far
view. The building has a pattern that makes it looks modern.
This building was composed of materials that were supposed
to be strong to make the building last for a longer period of
time. It has nine square shape designs and each square has
two squares inside of it. The building was wide and a third-
floor building.

Macasaet Building has a four-dimensional side with a vanilla
color. The top of the building has a cute design. The point,
line, plane and volume of the building are perfect. The
architectural designs just fit were it place. The safeness of the
people inside the building was secured because it has safety
exit were students and teachers can go when a fortuitous
event happens.

UP Oblation Statue

Artist: Guillermo Tolentino

Guillermo Estrella Tolentino was a Filipino sculptor and professor
of the University of the Philippines. He was designated as a
National Artist of the Philippines for Sculpture in 1973, three years
before his death. Moreover, he is the Father of Philippine Arts.
He was born on July 24, 1890 in Malolos, Bulacan and was died
on July 12, 1976 in Quezon City, Manila. His art Oblation Statue it
depicts a man facing upward with arms outstretched, symbolizing
selfless offering of oneself to his country. The Oblation, created
by Guillermo Tolentino inspired from the second stanza of Rizal’s
“Mi Ultimo Adios,” was first erected on the old Padre Faura
campus at the dedication ceremonies held on the National Heroes
Day in 1935.

Lesson 5 Part 1; Egyptian Art

Egyptian art is known for its symbolic, stylized, and use a myriad of media to vividly
express their belief systems, wealth, power, and dedication to history and to life after
death. Glory to their gods and the recording of national events and victories were
paramount to the purpose of their art.

Lesson 5 Part 2; Greek Art

Ancient Greek art emphasized the importance and accomplishments of human beings.
Even though much of Greek art was meant to honor the gods, those very gods were
created in the image of humans. Much artwork was government sponsored and
intended for public display.
The art of ancient Greece is usually divided stylistically into four periods: the Geometric,
Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic. The Geometric age is usually dated from about 1000
BC, although in reality little is known about art in Greece during the preceding 200
years, traditionally known as the Greek Dark Ages.

Lesson 5 Part 3; Roman Art up to the late 18th Century Art

The art of Ancient Rome, its Republic and
later Empire includes architecture, painting, sculpture and mosaic work. Luxury objects in metal-
work, gem engraving, ivory carvings, and glass are sometimes considered to be minor forms of
Roman art, although they were not considered as such at the time. Sculpture was perhaps
considered as the highest form of art by Romans, but figure painting was also highly regarded. A
very large body of sculpture has survived from about the 1st century BC onward, though very little
from before, but very little painting remains, and probably nothing that a contemporary would have
considered to be of the highest quality.

Lesson 5 Part 4; Late 19th Century

In 1800, at the turn of the 19th Century, Neoclassicism was the dominant style of painting in
Europe. The artistic movement had developed in the 18th Century as part of a larger decorative
style that encompassed architecture, sculpture and the decorative arts.
Impressionism—one of the most important movements in the history of Modern Art—was
arguably the most influential movement of the era, as it sought to capture the transient aspects
of visual reality, especially light and color. Also significant during this time were the Post-
Impressionist and Symbolist movements.

We can see outside the church of Manila Cathedral how beautiful and amazing it was
because it has preserved up to this day. I have been visited this place once if I am not
mistaken when I was in my senior high, we had what was like a field trip where one of
the places we went through was this church. I can say that the interior of this church is
really amazing and unique among other churches in our country. Next to the church on
its right side there are many vendors selling delicious food. It was one of the churches I
went to that I will never forget. This church was visited by many people not only the
people inside the NCR but also the people in the provinces visited this church because
of its beauty. When you look inside of it there are unique art history paintings, and
sculpture inside the church that can be found in the left corner of the church. I have an
extraordinary experience that I see how fascinating inside and outside the design of this
church.

Title: Cravings
Description: This drawing shows my cravings for avocado because I rarely eat avocadoes nowadays.
What I like to do with avocado is mixing it with condensed milk, sugar, and ice. Avocado is a healthy fruit
that we must all eat if we had a chance. This drawing also shows how calm I am as of now while making
it until I make it done.
