PROCESSIONAL HYMN: THY HAND, O GOD HAS GUIDED
This Hymn was sung at the service of the laying of the Foundation Stone 4 May, 1914

(Please stand as the Official Party enters)

1. Thy hand, O God, has guided 4. And we, shall we be faithless?
thy flock, from age to age; shall hearts fail, hands hang down?
their wondrous tale is written, shall we evade the conflict,
full clear, on every page; and cast away our crown?
thy people owned thy goodness, Not so: in God's deep counsels
and we their deeds record; some better thing is stored;
and both of this bear witness; we will maintain, unflinching,
one Church, one Faith, one Lord. one Church, one Faith, one Lord.

2. Thy heralds brought glad tidings 5. Thy mercy will not fail us,
to greatest as to least; nor leave thy work undone;
they bade men rise, and hasten with thy right hand to help us,
to share the great King's feast; thy victory shall be won;
and this was all their teaching, and then, by all creation,
in ev’ry deed and word, thy name shall be adored,
to all alike proclaiming and this shall be their anthem:
one Church, one Faith, one Lord. one Church, one Faith, one Lord.

3. Through many a day of darkness, Edward Hayes Plumptree
through many a scene of strife, 1821-91 alt.
the faithful few fought bravely,
to guard the nation's life.
Their gospel of redemption,
sin pardoned, hope restored,
was all in this enfolded:
one Church, one Faith, one Lord.

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Knowing our failure to fulfil his command let us then confess our sins:

Heavenly Father, you have loved us with an everlasting love
but we have gone our own way and broken your laws.
We are sorry for our sins and turn away from them.
For the sake of your Son who died for us, forgive us, cleanse us, and change us.
By your Holy Spirit enable us to live for you and to please you more and more,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE Archbishop Glenn Davies

FIRST LESSON: Deuteronomy 6:1-12 Mr Graham Robertson
Deputy Headmaster

PSALM 15 (School Psalm): He that sweareth unto his neighbour,
and disap│pointeth him │not:
Lord who shall │dwell in Thy │tabernacle: Though it │were to │his own │hindrance.
or who shall rest up │on Thy │holy │hill?
He that hath not given his │money upon │usury
Even he that leadeth an│ uncorrupt │life: nor taken re│ward a│gainst the│ innocent.
and doeth the thing which is right,
and speaketh the│ truth │from his │heart. Whoso doeth these │things shall│ never │fall.

He that hath used no deceit in his tongue: Glory │be to the │Father:
nor done evil │to his │neighbour: and to the Son │and to the │Holy │Ghost;
and │hath not │slandered his │neighbour.
As it │was in the be│ginning, is now and ever shall be:
He that setteth not by himself, │world without │end. A-│men.
but is lowly in │his own │eyes:
and maketh much of │them that fear the │Lord.

APOSTLE’S CREED:

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and buried; he descended into hell.
On the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

HYMN: ALL PEOPLE THAT ON EARTH DO DWELL

1. All people that on earth do dwell, 4. For why? the Lord our God is good;
sing to the Lord with cheerful voice; his mercy is forever sure;
him serve with fear, his praise forth tell, his truth at all times firmly stood,
come ye before him and rejoice. and shall from age to age endure.

2. Know that the Lord is God indeed, 5. To Father Son and Holy Ghost,
without our aid he did us make; the God whom heaven and earth adore;
we are his folk, he doth us feed, from earth and from the angel host,
and for his sheep he doth us take. be praise and glory evermore.

3. O enter then his gates with praise, William Kethe d.1594

PRAYERS (Please sit or kneel) The Rev Paul Dudley

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come,
your will be done on earth, as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,

as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours

now and forever. Amen.

Be exalted, Lord, above the heavens,
let your glory cover the earth.

Keep our nation under your care,
and guide us in justice and truth.

Let your way be known by all people,
your saving power among all nations.

Send out your light and your truth,
that we may tell of your saving works.

Lord, hear our prayers,
for we put our trust in you.
