A word from our Chair A warm welcome to Penketh High School and Matilda Jnr! This exceptionally talented group of children (7-16 years old) have worked incredibly hard over these last few months to bring you a fantastic performance this evening worthy of any West End stage! For some it will be their first time on a stage with lights, costumes, props and an audience and for some it will be bittersweet as this will be their last performance as Nippers as they graduate into ‘big NADOS’ and go on to study at college. Nippers will miss them immensely, but we look forward to seeing what is next. Our Co-ordinators strive to ensure that Nippers is a fun, safe space for the children with the motto ‘Be unapologetically you’, so much so that our Nippers Alumni come back and take the role of assisting the Coordinators, giving them leadership and responsibility, life skills which they will take with them on to university. If you look carefully, you will see all last years Nippers who left back on stage, they cannot keep away!! A huge thank you has to go to the team at Nippers headed by Beth Dilworth. Beth, we cannot thank you enough for the time, patience and effort you put into Nippers to ensure not just the performance will be amazing but that the children are safe and have the most amazing time. The level of detail, energy and perfection you have pulled out of the children is just amazing and you should be very proud of what you have achieved.

The choreography you will see tonight is difficult and intricate and we have Neeve Dilworth to thank for that, there is nowhere to hide for the children and they have worked their socks off to ensure Neeve’s vision is executed perfectly – she has done all this whilst studying for her final year at University and without being able to dance or sing for the last 4 months! We cannot forget Nippers Alumni Rachel Hogg who for the last two years has been there at every rehearsal assisting Beth and Neeve and keeping them in check. We wish Rachel all the best as she heads off to University in September. Thank you to all the committee, members of NADOS, family and friends who have given up their time to help with costumes, props, set, lights, chaperoning, front of house the list is endless, all to ensure that the show is a success – we couldn’t do this without the machine that is the NADOS family. That machine carries on as NADOS will be performing the musical ‘The Addams Family’ in October at St Edmund Arrowsmith High School, this is the first musical since 2019 and we cannot wait – more details to follow, make sure you follow our social media accounts for updates. Now then Maggots, sit back straight, fingers on lips, Miss Trunchbull will be here very shortly, and you don’t want to get on her bad side!!!!! Vicky Dilworth Chair

Matila Jr. Synopsis Based on Roald Dahl’s Tony-award winning hit musical, Matilda JR is the story of an extraordinary little girl with extraordinary powers. The daughter of abusive parents, Matilda finds refuge in library books, which she reads quickly and in creating her own stories. Things are no better at school, where Matilda also must face a tyrannical and cruel headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who believes in Crunchem Hall’s motto: “Bambinatum est Magitum,” or “Children are Maggots.” She finds companionship in her teacher, Miss Honey, who, though well-intentioned, is shy and fragile. Brave little Matilda knows she has to stand up against the adults in her world, and in doing so, discovers her own remarkable powers. Matilda’s bravery teaches Miss Honey and classmates an important lesson -- that even though life can be hard, “nobody but me is gonna change my story” so “sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.”

Finally the time has arrived for the Nippers to do another Musical! The last time we performed a Musical was Little Shop of Horrors back in 2018! Matilda Jr has been a great project from start to finish. We have had great fun as a production team bringing Road Dahl’s story to life with Tim Minchin’s musical madness and the brilliant writing of Dennis Kelly. Since the auditions in October we have been rigorously chipping away at the content and really getting to grips with who these larger than life characters are. The rehearsals have been filled with lots of concentration, sweat, sometimes no break (sorry Scarlett’s snacks) and usually one of us saying ‘why do I spend most of the rehearsal on the floor?’. The Nippers have worked extremely hard to bring a VERY difficult and mature musical to life and I hope you can see that from the brilliant production you are about to witness tonight. A side from that Nippers isn’t just about putting on brilliant show, anyone can do that. It’s about the friendship, the skills they learn and a safe place that they love coming to every week where they can just be 100% themselves with no judgments. I just want to say how proud I am of each and every one of them for what they have achieved this year as a cohort but also for always keeping the true spirit of Nippers at every rehearsal. A Message from Beth

I also need to say a massive thank you to everyone that has helped make this production possible, there are too many to name but we honestly appreciate everything you do to support our crazy vision and everything you do to ensure the kids have the best opportunities they can. Thank you to our Nippers Alumni for coming back to help in rehearsals and then support in the show haha! Thank you to Rach for her assistance with direction, enthusiasm and keeping us all on track. A big thank you Neevester for pulling out some awesome routines for the show. You’ve manage to do this whilst finishing your degree and I really appreciate what you’ve done for the Nippers this year. Even if you have broken your foot twenty times throughout the rehearsal period and I’ve had to become a dancing genius over night to help. Your enthusiastic version of Rudolpho will forever live rent free in my brain. Now sit back and enjoy, oh but don’t forget the school motto Bambinatum Est Magitum … Children are maggots!
