premise of ‫ ואני אתנהלה לאטי … חינוך הבנים‬a patient and compassionate INSIDE:
approach to enable each ‫ תלמיד‬to progress at his own pace. Each day our
Rabbeim and Moros extend themselves to reach and encourage every ‫תלמיד‬ Get Healthy…Stay
individually through a variety of creative methods. The results are dramatically Healthy with Yossi
exhibited in our classrooms and halls every day as they pulsate with the energetic
sounds of ‫ תלמידים‬learning and growing. Muller

The dedication and care of our Rabbeim to each individual ‫ תלמיד‬and the Shacharis Minyon
special partnership shared with our engaged parent body was clearly evident at Prizes and Treats
the well-attended PTA this week. The ‫ הנהלה‬and faculty are greatly encouraged
by the near perfect attendance which underscores the connection between the
yeshiva and home. May we continue to share ‫ נחת‬from our children and ‫תלמידים‬.

Lessons From the Parsha…

)‫ יב‬.‫‘" ַה ִצּי ֵל ִני ָנא ִמַיּד ָא ִחי ִמַיּד ֵע ָשׂו" (לב‬Save me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Eisav’

There is a famous question asked in regard to Yaakov’s request: Being that he only had one brother, why was it
necessary to ask to be saved both from the hand of his brother and from the hand of Eisav?

The ‫ בית הלוי‬answers: In his Tefillah, Yaakov Avinu, the forbearer of a nation, was not only being mispalel for his own,
personal battle with Eisav, but for all of the battles that Klal Yisrael would face through golus. He understood that there are two
dangers that the nations of the world present to us: '‫ ' ִמַיּד ֵע ָשׂו‬- The evil decrees thrust upon us by those seeking to destroy us.

The more harmful threat, however, signified by its being mentioned first, is: '‫ ' ִמַיּד ָא ִחי‬- The nations seeking to befriend
us. They would like to bring us down by having us accept upon ourselves their culture, their styles, their very way of life. This is
the larger threat, for it causes us to lose our identity as a people, as a nation of Hashem. It was for these two threats that Yaakov
Avinu davened.

The ‫ תולדות יעקב יוסף‬says that these 2 threats are actually intertwined. The Medrash relates that the trees of the forest
once became frightened when an axe was brought in their midst. A wise person commented to them: If your brother, the
wooden handle, would not join with that axe blade, it could do you no harm. Don’t give your enemy a hand!

Similarly, our protection from the evil of "‫ "מיד עשו‬is by not extending our hand to them, by being careful not to
mingle with them: "‫"מיד אחי‬.

Is it permissible to cut a hole in a plastic bag to use it as a funnel or piping bag?
It is not permissible to cut a hole on the bottom of a plastic bag for the purpose of using the bag as a funnel or piping bag (e.g. to
squeeze frosting onto a cake).
Is it permissible to tighten the clip on a piece of jewelry?
If the clip on a piece of jewelry (e.g. a bracelet or an earring) became loose preventing it from closing, one may not bend it back into
shape.
Is it permissible to use soap to wash dishes?
Liquid soap is permitted according to most authorities.1 Some Poskim require diluting the soap to make it especially thin.
It is not permissible to use a powdered cleanser such as Ajax, since dissolving the powder is prohibited (Molid).
Is it permissible to pour water on plastic table mats or other soft plastic and rubber materials?
It is permissible to pour water on plastic and rubber items. Since water does not get absorbed into these materials, they are
therefore not included in the prohibition of laundering. However, it is not permissible to rub the water vigorously on these
materials even with one’s hand in order to get them clean.1

swallowing an old one. The
boys left with an enhanced
appreciation of the need to eat
well and ensure we get the
proper nutrients and minerals
to grow and stay strong.
