What an action packed week here at Torah Temimah! Our Third graders embarked on their
5:12 ‫זמן הדלקת נרות‬
journey through ‫ תורה שבעל פה‬at a magnificent ‫ התחלת משניות‬event on Sunday. Joined by their
parents and Grandparents our ‫ תלמידים‬sang and danced with their Rebbeim as they celebrated this INSIDE:
milestone.

In every corner of the building sounds of Joyous learning resounds as ‫סיומים‬, celebrations and ‫משנה‬
daily learning are anything but routine.

Although the weather seems to indicate otherwise, the approach of winters end brings an Grade 11
infectious spirit of ‫ התחדשות‬which brings a special energy to everyday activities.

We are looking forward to everyone’s participation at our upcoming dinner on February 24,
2019. Our office is Buzzing with preparations while the sounds of choir practice gives us all a boost of

Lessons From the Parsha…

In this week's ‫ּפרשה‬, ‫ּפרשת ּתצוה‬, the ‫ פסּוק‬tells us, "‫ְו ָהָיה ַה ִמְז ֵּב ַח ֹקֶדש ֳקָד ִשים‬--and the )‫( מזבח (הנחשת‬the copper ‫ )מזבח‬will be holy
of holies." (‫)שמות ּפרק כ"ט ּפסוק ל"ז‬

Rav Moshe Feinstein ‫( זצ"ל‬1895-1986), in his sefer ‫דרש משה‬, notes that only the ‫ מזבח הנחשת‬is called ‫קדש קדשים‬, and not the
‫( מזבח הזהב‬the golden ‫)מזבח‬. The ‫ מזבח הזהב‬is only called ‫( קדש‬holy). (See ‫ט‬:‫שמות מ‬.) Why is this so? The ‫ מזבח הנחשת‬was located
outside the ‫משּכן‬, in the ‫( חצר‬yard), whereas the ‫ מזבח הזהב‬stood inside the ‫ משּכן‬itself (where the ‫ארון‬, ‫מנורה‬, and ‫ שלחן‬also stood). We
would think that the ‫ מזבח‬which was inside the ‫ משּכן‬would be the one referred to as ‫קדש קדשים‬, and not merely ‫קדש‬.

Rav Moshe answers that this teaches us that a person has an extra responsibility when he is outside his home. When a person
is inside (in his home, or in the ‫ בית מדרש‬learning), he must act in a holy way. He must be careful to observe all the ‫מצוות‬. However,
when a person is outside, among others who may have a negative influence upon him, he must act in a way which is "holy of holies."
This means that he must be extra careful in all his actions.

The ‫ ּפסּוק‬also tells us that because the ‫ מזבח הנחשת‬is so holy, any ‫ קרבן‬which became ‫ טמא‬but then was accidentally put upon

the ‫מזבח הנחשת‬, becomes holy and may not be taken down from the ‫מזבח‬. Rav Moshe writes that we can learn from this, " ‫ֶשִּת ְהֶיה‬

‫ ֶשַי ְחְזרּו ִב ְתשּו ָבה ַעל ָידֹו‬,‫ ַעד ֶשָּכל ַהנֹוֵּג ַע בֹו ִי ְקָדש‬,‫ ְקדּו ָשתֹו ְגדֹו ָלה‬--that a person's holiness should be so great (when he is outside his home),

that anyone with whom he comes in contact will become holy (as well), and they will do ‫ ּתשּובה‬because of him."
