Rabbeim and Morahs are well into the ‫ פסח‬lessons, crafts and special projects. INSIDE:

Our older grades are finishing up a productive extra-long winter ‫ זמן‬as  Purim with
they engage in energetic learning and ‫ חזרה‬programs. the Rebbeim
Pesach Prep!

Lessons From the Parsha…

‫פרשת פרה‬

The ‫ פסוק‬says: ''‫ ''זאת התורה אדם כי ימות באהל‬which means “this is the ‫( תורה‬halachos) of a man who dies
in a tent.” ‫ חז''ל‬learn from this ‫ פסוק‬that in order to acquire ‫ תורה‬one has to be ‫ ממית עצמו עליהם‬which literally

means that to acquire ‫ תורה‬one has to kill himself over it.
The Chofetz Chaim asks: “We know that ‫ תורה‬is the source of life. So what do ‫ חז''ל‬mean when they say

“in order to acquire ‫ תורה‬one has to kill themselves over it?”

The Chofetz Chaim answers with a mashal. There was a wealthy man who was so busy running his
business that he didn’t have any time to learn and hardly had any time to daven as well. As he got older, he

realized that the day will come when he will have to explain this to ‫הקב''ה‬. The next day, he stayed after davening
and learned for a few hours instead of going into his business. When he got home, his wife asked him: “Where
were you? The customers were waiting.” He said that he was busy, to which his wife replied “Okay, it happens
sometimes.” But after a few days of this going on, his wife demanded an explanation for what was going on. He
asked her: “What would you have done if I had died today? What would you tell the customers then? Baruch
Hashem I am still alive and I am only “dead” for two hours a day when I am learning.”

The Chofetz Chaim explained that this is what ‫ חז''ל‬meant. A person has to make himself “dead” in regards

to all other matters when it comes to learning and then indeed one will acquire ‫ תורה‬which is the source of life.

We all can learn from here that no matter how exciting our day was or will be or no matter what is on our
minds we can make ourselves “dead” when it comes to learning and ignore everything else to clear our minds to be

able to learn.
