Dear Parents ‫עמו"ש‬, ‫פרשת יתרו‬

The frigid weather outdoors this week was counteracted by the incredible ‫ רוח‬that 4:46 ‫זמן הדלקת נרות‬
keeps getting better and better! ‫ ט"ו בשבט‬was marked in true Torah Temimah style with
fruit filled pekelach for the younger grades arranged by Morah Hindy and special snack INSIDE:
treats for the bigger boys. An inspiring ‫ דרשה‬by Harav Eliezer Ginzberg set the tone for the
day as he spoke of the ‫ כח התפילה‬and the importance of making ‫ברכות‬. Our snow tubing  GRADES 6-8 SNOW TUBING
trip for grades 6-8 was a huge success and the special opportunity for inspired ‫ תפילה‬at TRIP
the ‫ קבר‬of the Satmar Rebbi ‫ זצ"ל‬will surely last in the hearts and minds of the ‫תלמידים‬.

Lessons From the Parsha…

'‫ויאמר יתרו ברוך ה‬

The ‫ ספרים הקדושים‬ask how we are able to make ‫ ברכות‬saying ...'‫ – ברוך אתה ה‬using the term '‫ – 'אתה‬You. Isn’t it
disrespectful to speak this way to Hashem, the King of the world? The '‫ אור החיים הק‬answers that all nations are considered
slaves of Hashem, while we ‫בני ישראל‬, the chosen nation, are considered ‫ – בנים למקום‬Sons of ‫הקב"ה‬. Since Hashem is our
father, the term You is appropriate!

My Rebbe ‫ שליט"א‬pointed out a ‫ רמז‬to this: '‫ברוך אתה י‬, its abbreviation is, '‫ – 'אבי‬my Father!
The ‫ הייליגע חפץ חיים זצ"ל‬in his old age was once visiting a city. As usual, many people gathered at the train station to
welcome and see the ‫צדיק‬. A chair was prepared for the ‫חפץ חיים‬, however since there was a large crowd it was impossible to
get the chair over, so two suitcases were laid down to serve as a chair for the ‫צדיק‬. The people made room around him so he
could get some air. From a respectable distance, people surrounded him and looked at his holy countenance. There was a young
‫ בחור‬by the name Leibel, who pushed his way through to get a closer glance at the ‫צדיק‬. Suddenly, the ‫ חפץ חיים‬called out to him
in a soft and frail voice, “Bachur, be careful with making ‫ברכות בכוונה‬, this will rescue you from many bad ‫ ”!צרות‬These words
had a great impact on him and he was indeed always careful to make ‫ ברכות‬with great ‫כוונה‬. This bachur Leibel grew up to be
Rav Arye Leib Bakst Zt”l, the Rosh Yeshiva of Detroit. By the outbreak of World War II he escaped from Poland through
Russia, to Japan and China, eventually settling in the USA. Despite the hardships, Hashem helped him and he survived.
If we bear in mind that by making ‫ ברכות‬we are considered children of Hashem, we can be sure that in return, Hashem
– our Father will watch over us!!

Inertia can be a bit confusing until you see it
revealed by a falling hex nut.

The object of this activity is to get the hex nut to drop
into the plastic bottle. Simple enough but there will

be something in the way. To accomplish the drop,

you’ll need a combination of careful setup, Isaac
Newton’s smarts, inertia, and gravity. Balance a

plastic ring on the mouth of an empty soda bottle

and place the hex nut (or similar heavy, small object)
on top of the ring. Correctly remove the ring and the

hex nut drops straight into the bottle. Science has

never been this much fun!
