WAREHOUSE ACTIVITY PROFILING
1. Receiving
Receiving operations in the warehouse include physically receiving items into the
warehouse and unloading them from the incoming transportation method. Activities also include
checking the amount and quality of the material and recording this information as needed, as well
as arranging or ensconcing the item for storage or an organizational function that requires it.
Receiving material has shown that receiving is a crucial component in warehouse
operations. This is because warehouse tasks include receiving all goods and orders from outside or
another firm. The employee must pay close attention while receiving activities taking place to
ensure that the amount and quality of material or items are appropriate and by the order. Receiving
operations include upgrading the system and looking for ways to enhance system functioning.
Receiving activities must also review and clear the receipts that have been received to ensure that
there are no errors.

2. Put-away
The process of withdrawing a product from the receiving area and placing it in the most

suitable place is known as putting away. These procedures go sequentially from the first, which is
the receiving phase, through the put-away system. There are several types of put-away systems,
including direct put-away, guided put-away, batch and sequence put-away, and interleaving.

Put-away may shorten the time it takes storage workers to accomplish their job. It is
because, throughout the storage process, items are divided into three types of systems before being
stored. Not all products, such as the valuable goods in a phone, such as a camera, LCD, and so on,
must be stored in the same location. These items must be handled with care, and they may be stored
immediately from the receiving area with the assistance of put-away workers. Some products, such

as the large component or the part that was usually used on the production floor, did not need to be
stored. Production employees might save time by arranging items near them in this manner.

3. Storage
Following the completion of the put-away operations, the receiving materials will be kept

in the storage area. Warehouse storage is the fundamental core and plays a significant function in
maintaining all of the items that belong to the organization, including raw materials, work in
progress, and finished goods.

Storage regulations rely heavily on space use. The warehouse is not assisting the firm in
earning money. To save warehouse costs, space is used by storing as much as the facility allows.
The size of the materials to be stored is a factor that must be addressed. Normally, materials are
stored by their size. Materials come in a variety of sizes, including tiny, medium, and bulky items.
Aside from that, warehouse workers might apply zoning tactics inside the storage zone. This is a
method of distinguishing various sorts of materials kept in which zone. The contents will be
organized more neatly and methodically. Product codes are widely used by the firm to identify the
specifics of the items while utilizing the Warehouse Management System (WMS).

4. Picking
Warehouse order picking is the pulling of an item or items from a warehouse or fulfillment

center to fulfill a customer's order. Warehouse picking is a critical step in the order fulfillment
process that necessitates the use of high-tech equipment and labor-intensive processes to maintain
high order accuracy rates across all orders leaving the warehouse.

One of the importance of warehouse order picking is lowering warehousing expenses.
Investing in a warehouse order-picking system that can aggregate comparable orders with close
inventory to a single picker would improve accuracy and efficiency, saving money and time. Other
than that, the importance of warehouse order picking is customer satisfaction is increased.
Warehouse picking has a direct impact on customer satisfaction since it might be the difference
between a shipment arriving on time and one that includes missing or inaccurate products. And
lastly, simplifying the work of pickers is one of the importance of warehouse order picking.
Workers may enhance accuracy while spending less time on each pick by automatically assigning
pickers optimum routes with validations and photographs to guarantee they are choosing the proper
items from the order.

5. Packing
The process of packaging all of the products for order into a suitable container before

sending it to the client is known as order packing. It is the second phase in the order fulfillment
process, after the choosing procedure. The packing process normally takes place at the warehouse
and consists of selecting acceptable materials and a suitable container to pack the items, weighing
the package, and marking it with the required invoice or packing slip.

Here are a few reasons why order packing is essential. Firstly, prevent damage. The
packing of an order protects your items from damage and ensures that they arrive intact to your
consumer. Secondly, cost-efficient which when a consumer gets damaged goods, they often want
a refund or an exchange. This would imply that the company would have to spend more money to
collect the goods and then replace or refund them, which would be a loss in any case. However,
since smart packing decreases the likelihood of damage or breakage, it also reduces the number of
refunds or exchanges made, saving the firm money. And lastly, Enhance brand identity. This kind
of packaging not only looks good but also helps to promote brand identification and may be utilized
as a marketing tool.

6. Shipping
Shipping generates data that is used to controlload organization. Shipping documents, such

as the bill of lading and customs clearance, are prepared. These activities would include loading
goods into carriers and exiting the warehouse via the shipping doc ks. During the loading process,
there would be a final check before shipping the invoice for possible damage. Container
optimization, container loading, void fill, weigh checking, automated loading, and dock
management are examples of common shipping activities.

Shipping activities assist in the reduction of errors in the loading of goods into the carrier.
This process ensures that the goods meet the requirements specifications. Shipping, on the other
hand, can reduce costs by using recyclable and reusable containers, as well as reduce the impact of
landfills and become more environmentally friendly.
