The Alcove Mission
The Alcove is a safe place where children and their families, who are grieving a death,

can receive comfort and support through the healing process.

The Alcove’s Services
Children & Family Night of Service
Children and Family Nights are on-going sessions that meet every other week from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
The groups are facilitated by trained volunteers using a peer-support model. This service is open to children
& teens between the ages of 3-18 who have experienced the death of a loved one. These evening sessions
allow children to explore grief through fun, theme-based activities, and sharing circles. Pizza dinner is provided.

School Outreach Program
These groups are conducted in schools in high risk areas where the children have difficulties attending group
in our Northfield facility. The groups are facilitated by an MSW Social Worker and meet for 6-8 weeks. The
groups provide grief support and education. Fun, age-appropriate activities provide children/teens with a safe
environment in which to explore the many thoughts and feelings associated with grief.

Adult Grief Groups
Adult Grief Groups, for adults 19 years of age and older, and meet every other week from 6:00pm until 7:00pm.
The groups are facilitated by trained volunteers.

All the above programs at The Alcove are offered at no cost to the families of South Jersey.

Additional Fee-Based Services

 Individual and family therapy
 Supervised visitation
 Corporate Outreach: Corporate outreach is provided to organizations affected by death.
 Home Care Specialized Support Service: In Home activity-based support to children and teens

facing the life threatening illness of a family member. A trained outreach worker makes home visits to
lessen the burden on adult family members.

*All therapeutic services are rendered by licensed professionals.

Tara met Peter and the Kurncz family
when they were at MD Anderson
and had Proton Therapy daily at
around the same time. Tara was
devastated that this little boy who
was always so happy was battling
brain cancer. Tara continued to
keep in touch with Peter’s mom,
Stacey, to keep up to date with how
Peter (#toughestboyweknow) was
doing. Our family then got to know
Stacey as well and we have been so
inspired by her strength. Tragically,
Peter passed away on June 18th.

George H. Kisby

January 1, 1939 - May 26, 2015

Sadly George Kisby lost his 2 ½ year battle with Melanoma this past May. He
and Tara shared similar stories of only benefiting from some of the treatments
available for Melanoma patients. George was also very inspirational in
fighting this disease and tonight we want to remember him as we raise
money to fund research that will get us one step closer to finding a cure for
this horrible disease.

One life can mean so much when
