It is hard to find the right words to thank you all for the incredible support
you have given to The Tara Miller Melanoma Foundation and to our
family. This foundation started as Tara’s way to “make the best of it”. It is
heartbreaking and still doesn’t seem real that Tara is gone. However, as hard
of a reality as that is, we know what Tara would expect of us. She would
expect us to make the best of it and wholeheartedly continue her mission
of funding the research to find better treatment options and ultimately
a cure for melanoma. This foundation is now our way of honoring the
incredible legacy that Tara has left. We truly cannot thank you all enough
for embracing this cause and making tonight such a success.

We cannot believe it was only 2 years ago that she was diagnosed and
in that short time she was able to make such an impact on so many
people’s lives and start this foundation to really make a difference in the
larger melanoma battle… all while going through the most devastating
yet inspiring fight.

Last year, Tara stood in front of hundreds and very candidly shared that
as a stage 4 Melanoma patient, she knew the odds were against her.
Tara had done all of the research, knew of all of the treatments and even
joked that her medical records could also serve as a timeline of FDA
approvals because as new drugs were becoming approved, she was getting
them right away. Tara knew that these were considered “game changing”
drugs for Melanoma patients. However, she considered them more of “Extra
innings” because they provided a little more time, not a lifetime. Sadly they
did not give Tara many “extra innings”. We need to find the cure that can
provide a lifetime to all melanoma patients.

Tara was so honored and appreciative of the overwhelming support. No one
can say it better than Tara so to take her words from last year, “The support
for this event has been overwhelming and I am so lucky to have so many
amazing people in my life.” We couldn’t agree with her more.
