CREATE THE PERFECT
INSTAGRAM POST

The Image

Clarity of Content
Let's start by gaining some clarity. What’s your story? Do you want to attract new clients & find others to
collaborate with? Or perhaps you simply want to connect & inspire? Figure that out first & post with intention to
grow your business.

Will your images be educational? inspirational? show behind the scenes? promotional? You should be aiming to
tell a story through the top 12 photos shown on your Profile feed.

Colour
My favourite element of Instagram. Using colour, you can communicate the essence of your brand & evoke
emotion. My advice is to stick to a colour palette which flows with your logo & brand & use no more than 4
colours in that palette.

Consistency
Once you've nailed the content & colour, you can create an overarching concept. You want your posts to be
instantly recognisable & stand out in our followers’ feeds. How do you want your feed to look in 1, 3, 6 or 12
months time? Like a rainbow changing colours? a story book of quotes? a complete mix?

Choose how often you should post too; there's no magic formula...once a day or once a week, so long as you're
interacting for 10 minutes a day with others.

The Location

As with the hashtag feature, people can search by location on Instagram by typing in a city or business name. If
someone checks in at your place of business, others can see it when they search for you. This will build what is
known as 'social proof' & gains you some strong credibility.
You can also use this feature in your own posts by selecting a location that you are at....a venue for an event, a
photoshoot or maybe your holiday. Alternatively, tagging one of your clients, partners or customers will help them to
get noticed.
Using the location feature helps you get found.

The Tagging

Making use of the tagging feature is another way to gain more exposure for your post & brand.
You could reach out to brands you love or aspire to be, by tagging them in your posts that showcase their products.
Maybe you have a new planner from Kikki K or a candle from Diptyque, or even new business cards from Moo.
Tagging them will mean their social media manager/s will see your post & if it looks good enough they will re-post it
to their feed. This happened with me for some wedding invites I created & printed using VistaPrint, who re-posted my
post gaining me new genuine followers & over 100 likes.
Other simple ways of tagging include thanking a team member or recognising a customer or fan who sent in photos
of your product.
The final note on tagging, is that if you are using someone elses imagery on your feed you MUST tag the original
user in the image so they 1) gain recognition and 2) can see you shared their content with your audience.
Remember, it's not your property so don't pass it off as your own.

The Caption

Here are some ideas for what you can place as your post caption...
Questions
"Ahh a nice wintery coffee at my favourite place [tag] Who's tried their [blank] muffins yet? Nomnomnom"
"This is my all time fave business read. What are you reading at the moment?"
Encouraging Likes
"Ok, important speaking event tomorrow. Question is what outfit to wear?! Help me decide between A or B. I'm
leaning towards B, click heart if you agree with me."
Encouraging Comments
"Who do you know that would love this social media planning printable? Tag them in the comments below & share
the love."
Your aim is to get people commenting on your post so it then gets shown in their feeds to potential new
followers.

The Hashtags

There's no set rule to how many hashtags you use. The maximum is 30 (although you can add 60 if you choose to
post 30 in the caption & 30 in the comments). I tend to go with 15-20 hashtags per post & use a good mix of popular
and lesser known hashtags.
You can add them all in your comments or create a list in a separate comment under the caption. It's a personal
preference.
How to know what to use? Well start off by thinking of your niche #yoga #fashion #crafts #food #photography
#coach? Get a list going & head to the search on Instagram, type each in & see what related hashtags pop up. Make a
list & group them into categories i.e. niche, colour, product, emotion.
A handy tip is to write them all in your 'Notes' app on your phone so you can just copy & paste into Instagram. Or,
you can save them as 'Saved Captions' in Later.com (a free Instagram scheduling tool that I swear by)

BE BRAVE, GO LIVE

What to do You know that Live Streaming is the way to get noticed &
increase your visibility on Facebook, but you're holding
Copyright © 2019 S L Social back. Worried about what to say? What people may think
of you? Well, all your insecurities need to stop because
the benefits you will gain from doing regular Facebook
Live videos far out way the 'what-if's'.

Here's some advice from me to you...

First up, check you have a good internet connection. From
my experience, 4G can be temperamental so get hooked
into your WiFi for a streaming session
Have a little think about what you want to say. Don't
overthink or over plan or you'll get in a muddle. Just have
a visions for what you want people to take away from
watching you
Choose a title for your video that manages to describe
what it's about, gains stand out from the norm &
sounds interesting. I add emojis to my titles & call them
what I think people would be searching for i.e. "How do I
create a boosted post?"
You don't need a fancy high quality camera, tripod or mic.
Your smart phone is more than good enough & what most
streamers use. I have an iPhone holder from Primark that
was £4 & clips to any table or desk or shelf & has a long,
bendy arm allowing me to adjust the camera on my phone
where I need it
Don't get too hung up on it, but do consider the lighting &
background. Keep it natural & 'you' but make sure there's
no distractions on the wall or anyone else in the room with
you

What to say There's soooo many things to talk about! Whether you have
a product to sell or service to offer, you can share so many
Copyright © 2019 S L Social aspects of you & your business to your Facebook
audience.  I started out by vlogging so my viewers could get
to know me by hearing my journey, social media advice &
thoughts on women in business over their coffee. Then after
a few months I switched up to weekly 30 min Q&A sessions
where viewers could ask me anything.

Some other content ideas include;
Events you attend or trips you go on for business
Reviews/box opening of your product/s or a new business
tool
Interviews with staff members, fans, yourself
How to & lessons showing people how to do or create
something

Start by saying hi, introducing yourself quickly then starting
with your content/

Once you get going, engage with the viewers. Ask them to
give you a heart or thumbs up if they're enjoying it, request
them to follow you.

Keep an eye on comments & new viewers. Welcome people
who tune in by naming them & constantly respond to the
comments coming in. It's also worthwhile recapping what
you’re discussing for new viewers just tuning in.

Remember to speak clearly & slowly but relax & be YOU!

Top Tips! If you were to brave going live for the first time today, this
would be my advice to you...
Copyright © 2019 S L Social
Take a deep breath
Have 5 mins (no more) in peace & quiet thinking about what
you want to say & what your message is
Don't write a script or even note prompts down; be natural
Set up your smart phone in a quiet & bright room
Ensure the smart phone camera is higher than your eye
level (it's the most flattering, trust me!)
Put some lippy on (it gives you surprising confidence)
Select 'Go Live' in your Facebook Pages app
Write an attention grabbing title & hit 'Go Live'
The biggest tip I can give is to pretend you're on a Skype
call. If you start thinking about the fact you're live & millions
could see you, you will start to freak out. So don't. As soon
as I hit 'Go Live' I completely pretend I am heading into a 1:1
Skype session so it relaxes me.
Wave to the camera, say hi...even if no one is watching live
Briefly introduce yourself & tell people what the live is
about
It doesn't have to be perfect - keep telling yourself that. If
things go wrong laugh!
Don’t worry about how long your live broadcast is (longer
the better!)

& remember the more you go live, the better you'll get!

DEMYSTIFYING SOCIAL
ADVERTISING

Facebook advertising

On your business Page you can pay to do an assortment of things from boosting a post, promoting your Page, promoting
your website, promoting your current offer…….so many options to invest in building your online presence.
You will need to start placing ads at some point because of how the Facebook algorithm works, so try to spend some time
getting to grips with what Facebook is asking of you.
There is also the chance to advertise on Instagram via Facebook now too….This involves either using the existing Facebook
Ads Manager platform or a platform called Power Editor.
Power Editor is a tool for advertisers who operate at scale and need precise control of their adverts, advert sets and
campaigns. At the moment, Power Editor is only compatible with the Google Chrome browser. It's very fancy.

Create your campaign Notes

To create an ad campaign in Facebook's ad creation tool,
go to www.facebook.com/ads/create or click 'Create
Ad' in the top right of Ads Manager.

Here's the process Facebook will take you through...

Creating your campaign
Choosing your objective
Naming your campaign
Creating your ad sets
Choosing your audience
Setting your budget and ad schedule
Setting your bid
Naming your ad set
Creating your ads
Choosing your images
Adding text/links
Choosing your ad placements
Placing your order

Twitter advertising

Twitter Ads are not as popular, or cost effective, as Facebook but are designed to help you achieve results that drive action
and add value to your business. You can create campaigns tailored for a variety of business goals. Here are the campaign
types to choose from:

Increase site visits, conversions and sales
Build an audience
Engagements
Mobile app promotion
Your ad campaign will be more effective if you produce compelling Tweets to promote. People are much more likely to
engage with Tweets containing visuals, so experiment with images or video.
Whilst the interface and process is easy to use, it does tend to cost a little more than Facebook. If you're nervous,
just test 'Promoting a Tweet' for the minimum spend of £10.

Create your campaign Notes

When you want to create new Twitter Ads or manage
your existing ones, all you need to do is log in to your
Twitter account. Click on the gear icon on the right side
of the toolbar to bring up the drop down menu and click
on 'Twitter Ads'. You can also go to the site directly at
ads.twitter.com

If you haven’t created your first campaign yet, click 'Get
Started' and Twitter will take you through all the steps.

You can target your ads by interests, followers or
keywords, in addition to 'Tailored Audiences' which gives
you the option to target your website visitors or
customer database. Like Facebook, you can also target
by location, age and gender but it's nowhere as
sophisticated as Facebook's targeting. Soz Twitter.

Instagram advertising

Historically, there was a minimum spend of £5,000 for brands to place an ad on Instagram (I know, right?!).
However, since the lovely Facebook bought the platform, Instagram ads are now available globally for all businesses —
big, small and teeny weeny.
Instagram ads are available to everyone in both Power Editor and Facebook Ads Manager. so note that if you want to run
ads on Instagram, you'll need a Facebook Page. Sneaky.
You can choose to run ads directly from the Instagram app. A post or that is promoted from the Instagram App will appear
as an ad in people's feed and stories. In addition, you can promote stories to reach an audience beyond your followers - I do
this & it really works!
