Fleck’s Academic journal offers great insight on the effects of social media. It list the
negative effects on both personal and professional life. It also states how it effects
the common human practice.
This same article also gives an understanding of the positive effects of social
media.
Jones, Haley. "Social Media's Affect on Human Interaction." HASTAC. 07 June 2013.
Web. 28 Apr. 2016.
Haley states why social media is bad but also gives an example of how social media can
play a positive role in the human life. Jones gives only minimal details but I
believe that this is because of how little social media positively effects us.

The Bad
The article fleck states that the word social implies relationships and human
interaction. Social media I believe limits our interaction and our actions. One example
Fleck points out is that we are limited to what we can say just because we could possibly
offended some one. He uses this example, “A mean-spirited restaurant review by a
clinician, for instance, could incite a client to avoid that practitioner because of concern
about being judged in the therapy room; maybe the client would wrongly assume that all
clinicians are that way”. Our actions regarding social media can affect not only our
personal lives but our professional lives as well. This causes people to feel pressured to
know enough so that they do not offended anyone. After a while because of thing like
social media and feeling pressured one begins to latch on, therefore they start to become
socially inept. They do not know how to function in a relationship outside of Facebook or
any other social networking site. If you take for instant a picture before social media was
invented you see people smiling and having fun together outside interacting, and in
today’s society ninety percent of the time people are cooped up inside wasting away
interacting with only the people they know on social media.
The Good
“Technology’s rampant popularization over the past decade in terms of social media has
meant that texting, Facebook, and Twitter have inevitably taken over as the most efficient
ways of communicating with each other. I do agree that the “efficiency factor,” or our
reliance on the most efficient ways of communication, is becoming one of the largest

concerns for people in our interactions with one another. However, there needs to be a
constant reminder that face-to-face interaction must remain a staple in our society
because it is of a much higher quality and has the ability to satisfy so many more of our
inherent social needs.” As Haley jones sees the good side of social media. It is definitely
a good way to keep in touch with people you have already built a relationship with.
Socially media other than to keep in touch serves that purpose only after that then it is
honestly worthless.
