Race 1 – JACOBS CREEK SV 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres: Noondie raced ungenerously in the
early stages and then after passing the 800m shifted out away from the heels of Madica’s Pleasure resulting in
Ringa Tin Tin, which was following, clipping the heels of Noondie and almost falling.
Ringa Tin Tin was then obliged to race wide without cover.
Madica’s Pleasure shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
Noondie shifted out significantly approaching the 100m placing rider D Oliver at a disadvantage. A post race
veterinary examination of Noondie revealed no abnormalities.
Race 2 – MARKET SQUARE SHOPPING CENTRE SV 2YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres: Trainer
Mr M Moroney was fined $100 for presenting Barbuda in the mounting yard 7 minutes before the advertised
starting time of the race.
Crookhaven jumped away awkwardly.
Shortly after the start Barbuda shifted in abruptly away from Magniloquent after being brushed by that gelding.
Magniloquent over-raced in the early stages.
Passing the 600m Super Cool had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Magniloquent.
Also passing the 600m Crookhaven shifted out and in doing so bumped Sun Display hampering that runner.
Wazeer raced wide without cover throughout.
On the home turn Super Cool shifted out to improve and in doing so brushed Sun Display and took that filly out
off her course. C Newitt, rider of Super Cool, stated that the colt raced greenly throughout.
Magniloquent was held up rounding the home turn until straightening.
Near the 250m Harpers shifted in towards the rail and became unbalanced.
D Oliver reported that after jumping away awkwardly Crookhaven, then raced back in the field amongst other
runners which he believes the colt resented.
Race 3 – SCHWEPPES AUSTRALIA MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres: Stewards ordered the late
scratching of Regal Sanctum at 7.57am after trainer Mr A Homann advised the mare had an elevated
temperature.
Driffields Occi was slow to begin (one length).
Cleola jumped away awkwardly and was then hampered by Moose which shifted in after jumping away
awkwardly.
Also at the start Cheetana shifted in and bumped Fun And Roses.
Fun And Roses raced wide without cover throughout.
Driffields Occi was held up rounding the home turn and until approaching the 200m.
Platinum Panther was held up for clear running until the 150m.
T Rodder reported Cursu, which was having its first start, raced greenly and was field shy at the rear of the
field.
L Meech reported that Moose will benefit from today’s run and made an unusual respiratory noise. A
subsequent veterinary examination of Moose revealed no abnormalities other than a delayed recovery.
Race 4 – CHARLES ROSE JEWELLERS MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres: Stewards ordered the late
scratching of Resolutes (NZ) at 7.47am and the explanation of trainer Mr M Kavanagh was accepted due to him
experiencing telecommunication difficulties when contacting the RISA service centre.
Stewards ordered the late scratching of Amo La Nonna at 7.50am and trainer Mr M Price was fined $200 for
failing to scratch the filly by the prescribed time. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account that this had
cost an emergency a run.
The start of the race was delayed slightly due to Amazing Warrior being re-plated behind the barriers.
Baden was slow to begin (two lengths).
Mittal raced wide without cover.
On the home turn Maliner shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped Mittal out onto Havelock Express
unbalancing both of those geldings.
She’s Ayce was momentarily held up upon straightening for the run to the finish before being eased wider on
the track.
J Hill rider of Baden, which performed below expectations, stated that in his opinion the gelding was not suited
by the synthetic track.
Race 5 – CHIFLEY ON THE ESPLANADE MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres: Stewards ordered the late
scratching of Tiger Time at 8.30am acting on veterinary advice after trainer Ms B Lechmere advised the
gelding had sustained a laceration to its near fore leg.
Rock Station was slow to begin (one length).
Imaplayer jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 1000m Rock Station had to be eased and shift out to avoid the heels of Sunderaad which was being
restrained.
Rock Station raced wide without cover.
When questioned regarding the performance of Quack It (NZ), B Rawiller reported that after having been
forced wide, the filly commenced to hang and as such peaked on its run over the concluding stages.
Race 6 – VIATEK COUNTRY SHOWCASE CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1100 metres: After the running of
Race 4 connections advised that Viva La Show was to be ridden further back today in an attempt to have the
mare finish off the race. Viva La Show raced in a mid-field position and failed to run on.
In the early stages Nothing Known broke down badly in the near hind leg and was eased out of the race.
Nothing Known was subsequently humanely euthanised.
Lumina raced wide without cover throughout.
Mr Chuckle had difficulty obtaining clear running until inside the 100m.
Sylvan Power was held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m.
Passing the 100m Viva La Show shifted out abruptly away from Sylvan Power and as a result hampered Stream
Royale and De Lilly Lightful.
Approaching the finish Kidancho’s Rogue shifted out marginally and inconvenienced Edgycat which was
steadied.
J Lyon, rider of Dragon Bear, stated that the gelding over-raced and had a tendency to hang out throughout.
When questioned regarding the performance of Sylvan Power, C Newitt stated that despite being briefly held
up his mount failed to respond to his riding over the concluding stages.
After the running of this race J Winks was examined by the Club’s doctor and stood down from fulfilling his
remaining engagements.
Race 7 – CENTREBET DONT JUST WATCH IT COUNTRY SHOWCASE BM72 HANDICAP - 2000
metres: Eightways was slow to begin.
Beer Garden jumped away awkwardly.
Cool As Hel raced wide without cove r.
Beer Garden raced wide without cover from the 1200m.
B Melham was questioned regarding his tactics he adopted on Inabeauti and the performance of the gelding,
which settled worse than mid-field, contrary to its recent pattern of racing. B Melham stated that he was
instructed to not ride his mount along during the early stages as it has a tendency to over-race. B Melham
added his mount was not suited to by the slow race tempo and he was satisfied with the manner in which the
gelding finished the race off. His comments were noted.
D Gauci, rider of Mr Bisset, could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the gelding, which
gave ground approaching the home turn. A subsequent veterinary examination of Mr Bisset revealed no
abnormalities.
Race 8 – BC3 THOROUGHBREDS F&M 0-62 HANDICAP - 1300 metres: Parma was slow to begin (one
length).
On jumping away Revidere shifted in and inconvenienced The Luckiest and Mawari.
Empress Zakynthos over-raced in the early stages when trailing the leader.
Star Bint raced wide without cover.
When the pace slackened near the 800m Always Dreamin’ and My Harmonica had to be checked to avoid the
heels of other runners.
J Lyon reported that Revidere never travelled well in the run and was under pressure from the 800m.
D Oliver rider of The Luckiest, which performed poorly and was under pressure from the 700m, stated that the
filly in his opinion jarred up. A post race veterinary examination of The Luckiest revealed no abnormalities.
An inquiry was adjourned to a date and time to be fixed into the reason for J Rule being unable to ride My
Harmonica due to being overweight and also for leaving the racecourse with a clearance.
Race 9 – CENTREBET GET ON TO GET OUT COUNTRY SHOWCASE 0-68 HANDICAP - 1300
metres: Special Credit was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 2.20pm after it injured itself in the float
en route to the course.
Trainer Mr H Conners was fined $50 for his late declaration of T Rodder as rider of Athenian Girl in this event.
Shortly after the start Howbadisthat became unbalanced when tightened for room between Miss Noverre and
I’m Mysterious due to both horses shifting ground.
Female Agent raced wide in the early and middle stages without cover and then gave ground quickly after
passing the 600m. D Gauci rider of Female Agent stated that in his opinion the mare had a respiratory
complaint and a subsequent veterinary examination of Female Agent revealed no abnormalities other than a
slower than normal recovery.
Approaching the home turn Lady Pania was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.
Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight I’m Mysterious had difficulty obtaining a clear run
before shifting out near the 200m to obtain clear running.
In the straight Catagious, which was making ground, hung in under pressure.
C Newitt, rider of Freshwater Storm (NZ), could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the
gelding today.
General
Apprentice D Lane pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR91 for failing to seek permission from
the Stewards to leave the jockeys room prior to fulfilling his all of his engagements and in doing so made four
mobile telephone calls. D Lane was fined $300.
D Lane also pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR.160B(3)for having a mobile telephone in his
possession in the jockeys room. D Lane was fined $300.
