INTERNATIONAL BORNEO ISLAMIC EDUCATION AND

MESASGE FROM

Prof Dr Hj. Mohd Dahlan Hj. A. Malek

Dean, Faculty of Islamic Studies,
Universiti Malaysia Sabah

‫بِ ْس ِم َّلهل ِا ال هر ْح َم ِن ال هر ِح ْيم‬
Praise to Allah (the Most Glorious), for it is because of His Grace and Blessings that we are
able to jointly host the International Borneo Islamic Education and Arabic Convention
(IBIEAC) 2021 together with Sabah State Education Department (JPNS) (The main
organizer), Institut Aminuddin Baki and Persatuan Kegiatan Dakwah Islam Sekolah
(PEKDIS) Sabah.

‫ْْحس ََ ًَ ْبحس ََ ََ ْر َحهَس بِ الً ْم‬
Welcome to the IBIEAC 2021! The theme of the IBIEAC this year is “Enhancing the
solutions quality and best practices of Islamic Education and Arabic Language towards
Industrial Revolution 4.0 challenges”. This conference theme has been specially chosen to
encourage us, working in and across different academic fields, from diverse cultural and
national backgrounds, to come together to reflect on what education in modern society
means to all of us, as well as how our definitions of education would affect the way we lead
our lives, and consequently, contribute to our overall health and quality of life. Nowadays,
we are living in the fourth industrial revolution, where technologies are increasingly chosen
to replace or be at least on par with human power. This may create some challenges in life
that might not be easily handled by some people.

For those who have been leading their lives in a conservative and traditional way, this
fourth industrial revolution would probably bring more disadvantages than advantages to
them. Thus, economic growth and wealth are not always indicators of happiness, health
and quality of life. In today’s modern life, industrialization, urbanization, commercialization,
and technology that are beneficial to most people have also produced devastating results in
some parts to traditional values, cultures, environment, and way of life for many communi-
ties. Therefore, the concept of ‘ukhuwah’ and sharing research in the current issues in
Islamic Studies and Arabic language are both timely and important to enhance their
competitiveness and upgrade their ability and capability in addressing current needs and
challenges in the modern society, especially during pandemic Covid 19 in new norms.

Due to these major changes in values and lifestyles, societies all over the world today are
being pressured to lead their lives accordingly. Given the points above, this conference has
been geared upon for discussing the issues and factors that enhance our education.

Lastly, I would like to thank to all committee member, our international and local speakers
and participants for their contributions to this conference. I would also like to thank every
one of you for coming to this event, and I trust that you will make new friends and establish
future research partners over the days of our conference. Whether you are a presenter or
an audience member, I encourage you all to make the most out of the opportunities for
engagement and interaction you will encounter in this international academic forum.

Thank you.
