I have a massive soft spot for Portugal in general, and
the Algarve in particular. Not only is it a wonderfully
welcoming part of the world, the local food is massively
underrated.You can get the freshest grilled sardines on
toast for a few pounds and the local fresh fish in gen-
eral is of the very highest quality. Many restaurants also
serve what is called a Cataplana. The Cataplana pan it-

created by one of the very fine ‘home cooks’ who join
