Benefiting women and children in Lake County 3 LETTER FROM THE CO-PRESIDENTS Year End and Looking Forward Bringing hope and options to those in need is why we (collectively) work together for the Caring Women’s Connection. With love and hard work, we have been able to truly make a difference. As our 2022/23 year wraps up at the end of July, we want to thank you all for your contributions of time and dollars. Highlights from this year include: • Awarding college scholarships to two incredible Lake County high school seniors • 12 grants totaling $42,000 – shared among organizations that are doing incredible things • School supplies for 107 Lake County shelter students who might otherwise not have what they need to participate at school through our Backpack Mania drive. • Holiday gifts to dozens of shelter families and Thanksgiving dinners provided to 75 families And so much more (see pg 5 for our grants info, and page 4 for details on our scholarship winners). While we are thrilled with what we have accomplished, our future is uncertain. Much of the current board has been in place for a number of years, and we have stalled in recruiting new members to take on leadership roles. The easy solution is if we can get new people to put their hat into the ring for a number of board positions. If that doesn’t materialize, we have some difficult decisions to make on the future of the organization. For the coming year, the Board has decided to streamline our events and contributions, while we assess interest and try to recruit new leaders. We don’t want to end our letter on a down note. Please don’t take our current situation as a gauge for the impact and value that all your contributions and love have made. We do great work together, and hope to continue that going forward. Interested in helping out or possibly joining our board? We are planning for our 2023/24 year now and would love to hear from you. If you have questions on anything for CWC please feel free to contact us: [email protected] CHRIS GEIMER AND DANIELLE BORECZKY Co-Presidents Help Keep CWC Going We are at risk of having to end our efforts if we don’t find new members to take on leadership roles. Will you volunteer to assist/shadow a board member for the coming year and then step into their shoes for 2024- 2025? We especially need Treasurer, Event Chairs and a new President(s). You can find a description of our board roles on our website. Aside from board members, we would appreciate any amount of time or effort you might be able to contribute in a volunteer role. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or join us as a guest for any of our upcoming board meetings which are open to the public. Thank you! [email protected]

4 CaringWomensConnection.com 2023 CWC Scholarship Winners SCHOLARSHIPS PHILANTHROPY PHILAN - THROPY We are thrilled to present the two recipients of this year’s CWC Scholarships. The Scholarship Committee received many applications, and were impressed overall with the group of high school seniors that applied for our scholarships. Candidates were reviewed by the committee based on their academic achievements along with their dedication to service. We are inspired by the heart and dedication of these young people and excited to watch them grow. Please join us in congratulating Emma Kudelka and Himat Sidhu as this year’s CWC Scholarship recipients. Thank you to 2023 Scholarship Co-Chairs Nicole Schultes and Jane Glover, and their committee for their leadership and time. Emma Kudelka Lakes High School Attending Illinois Wesleyan University Major: Psychology “I like to provide service because it is a selfless act. I am grateful for my creativity, as it allows me to come up with fun ways to involve more people in service, like holding fundraisers and creating community events. Bringing people together and seeing the impact on people I have helped is very motivating. I plan to continue my dedication to service as I enter college in the fall.” Himat Sidhu Barrington High School University of Chicago Major: Pre-Med/Neuroscience “I have been volunteering all of my life, as my parents and my religion (Sikhism) have taught me the importance of service to others. While I draw inspiration from others in my life and my community who are dedicated to service, what really drives my passion for service is being able to have empathy for others in difficult situations. I hope to continue my service in the future by getting involved in volunteer organizations at my college next year and by continuing to come back home and volunteering in my own community as well.” THANKSGIVING DINNERS - OCTOBER/NOVEMBER HOLIDAY HELPERS - NOVEMBER/DECEMBER This fall help us make Thanksgiving a little brighter for those in need. We will be collecting items to help provide the families living in local shelters a delicious holiday meal to enjoy. Items can be purchased and dropped off or gift cards for grocery purchases work well for perishable items. More info to come on our website and we will be accepting donations toward the dinners at our October Love Fund Auction (see back cover). Each holiday season, we seek supporters and friends to “adopt” families in need to help fulfill their wish lists and brighten their holiday season. We receive specific wish lists from local shelters for each family that lives there. Donors may adopt a single individual or an entire family. There are also individual items listed as needed. All of these will be listed on a SignUpGenius page with details in the fall and items are requested to be dropped off early in December. Interested in joining our contact list for Philanthropy projects? Please email our Philanthropy Chair, Patty Renz at [email protected] with your contact info or any questions. Additional details will be posted in our emails and on our website: caringwomensconnection.com
