EXPLANATORY NOTES

This finding aids book was created to make it easier to find and use documents
and archives relating to the Selangor sultanate of "Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-
Haj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz. From this finding aids book,
people can learn and find out more about Selangor Sultanate. Both electronic and
non-electronic sources can provide a variety of information. Records related to a
variety of different image types, articles, and other items are among the list of assets
that are readily available. This finding aids book seeks to make it simple for
researchers to locate and acquire the needed information. All of the materials are
listed in accordance with the collection type, which includes a straightforward
document inventory and descriptions of particular materials. The information in
these finding aids was compiled using resources from Malaysia's National Archives.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

Introduction

Sultan of Selangor is the title of the constitutional ruler of Selangor, Malaysia who is
the head of state and head of the Islamic religion in Selangor. The current

monarch, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ascended the throne on the death of his father,
on 22 November 2001. Selangor's history predates the Malay Sultanate of Malacca by
more than a century. The monarch of Singapore, Paduka Seri Maharaja, met with two

Malay leaders, Tun Jana Khatib and Tuan Jajahan Buguran, in Selangor in the
fourteenth century, according to records.In addition to being mentioned in writings from
the Majapahit Empire in the 14th century, a Chinese mariner named Admiral Cheng Ho
was the first to recognise the Klang River in the nautical world. Selangor became part of

the Federation of Malaysia in 1963 and its capital Kuala Lumpur became the
administration centre in trade, commerce and banking. In 1974, Selangor handed Kuala

Lumpur to the federal government and Shah Alam became the new capital. In 2001,
Putrajaya joined Kuala Lumpur as a Federal Territory. Selangor was declared a modern

state in 2005.

The flag of Selangor contain three colours which is red, oranges and white. The red sections
symbolise bravery. The yellow sections refer to royalty, represented by the local monarchy of
Selangor, and the Sultan, who is the head of the state. The official religion of Selangor is Islam,
and that is denoted by the white crescent and star on the top left corner of the flag.

dilakukan oleh Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Selangor Hari Ini (30hb Disember,

1977). Istiadat Perasmian tersebut adalah merupakan istiadat yang bersejarah

berhubung dengan riwayat keagungan kerajaan melayu selangor yang berpusat di

Kuala Selangor. Kota Melawati mempunyai kesan sejarah yang menunjukkan

kegigihan dan keperwiraan pembesar-pembesar melayu menentang penaklukan

kuasa oleh Belanda dan Inggeris di abad-abad ke-17 dan 18. Di sinilah tempat

dimakamkan Almarhum Sultan-sultan Selangor dalam abad tersebut iaitu Almarhum

Sultan Salehuddin, Sultan Selangor Pertama (1765-1770), Almarhum Sultan

Ibrahim, Sultan Selangor yang Kedua (1770-1826) dan Almarhum Sultan Mohamad,

Sultan Selangor yang Ketiga (1826-1857). Bagi menjadikan tanda peringatan dan

kenang-kenangan kepada sekalian rakyat negeri Selangor, baginda Sultan Selangor

telah menitahkan supaya diperbaiki dan dibangunkan semula bangunan makam

diraja ini yang menelan belanja sebanyak RM120,000. Gambar menunjukkan Sultan

Selangor sedang mengikat kain di batu nisan bagi perasmian istiadat tersebut. Duli

the Second Sultan of Selangor (1770-1826) and the late Sultan Mohamad, the
Third Sultan of Selangor (1826-1857). In order to make a memorial and
keepsake for all the people of Selangor, His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor
has ordered that this royal tomb building be repaired and rebuilt which cost

The work of preparing this park was done by a
committee managed by Tun Dr. Ismail Datuk Abdul

• This 1,214-hectare forest reserve, rich in natural
beauty, forms a green area for city dwellers, attracting
nature lovers, photographers, and recreationists. On the
day of the inauguration, Sir Gerald Templer had time to
inspect the 50-acre area that had begun to be opened to
the public.
