The pre-class work will set the scene for the in-class activity.
Students instead of just listening to the teacher will have the chance to watch interactive
videos and obtain one sheet that could allow them to have basic sentences that will be
printed into their minds.
Step 3: Activities that motivate students to prepare before class
Students will receive all the needed information before the lesson. They will be asked to
provide simple things during the lesson and they will be guided step by step from the
teacher.
Step 4: In-class activities that provide students opportunities to deepen
understanding
Engagement time: 5 minutes
As students enter the class they will receive from the teacher an information and
welcome pack which will consist into a sheet that will be used for preparing a small self-
presentation. They will also get a number that will be used to divide them into small
working groups.
Teacher will show them how to work during the lesson and will make a small check in
before starting it.
Explanation: 7,5 minutes
The teacher will show to the students the chosen video and will ask them to take 1 or 2
sentences as notes that will be used in the exploring part of the lesson.
Explore: 10,5 minutes
During this session students will be asked to write on sticky notes one word to
summarize who they are. They can also write down their feelings.
This part is crucial because during it all the gathered information will be used for
creating a sort of tree of ideas, the harvesting tree.
Student’s working group: 22 minutes
The gathered material will be a crucial part in this session because students receive
from the teacher the needed information to prepare their self-presentation.
One group of students will be working on “who am I and where am I from?”
The other group instead will be working on the “Hobbies” and the part linked that is
used for self-personal presentation.
Class conclusion: 5 minutes
Teacher will give home assignment to students for the following lesson
Step 5: Post-class activities that extend student learning
The learning experience gained during the class will allow students to create working
groups at home so that they can keep working together and reach the aimed goal of
learning all together.
This kind of activity will show them that they can all be at the same level, no matter what
is their background. Teacher will provide some short language exchange online.
Step 6: Ongoing Evaluation and Assessment
Evaluation and assessment are not going to be based on giving to the students’ marks,
rather they will have more deep knowledge about the topic they are learning. At the end
of the class they will have a more clear understanding of the historical process and they
will all have the same evaluation. If we keep giving them marks they might feel
underestimated so they might lose the interest in the lesson topic.
