Maternity Effective Handover

Week Commencing 12th April 2021

Trust

Update to Maternity visiting for birth partners
• As part of the Trust’s restoration, one birth partner can now

attend all antenatal appointments at both of our Trust sites.
• Birth partners should be from the same household or support

bubbles and should be the same person throughout the

pregnancy, labour and postnatal period.
• Partners will be asked on arrival about their exposure to

COVID-19 and will have their temperature taken. If partners

have had a Lateral Flow Test at home, they may be asked for

the results on the day of attendance.
• For more information, including our current visiting

restrictions, please click here.
• We are continuously reviewing restrictions in line with

national guidance.

Trust

Guidance and resources on Ramadan and the COVID-19
vaccine

• Resources have been made available from NHS England to
share advice with members of staff and managers on social
distancing considerations and the impact of the COVID-19
vaccine on Ramadan.

• The British Islamic Medical Association (BIMA) has advised
Muslims observing Ramadan not to delay getting their
COVID-19 vaccine and that the injections do not invalidate
fasting.

• There is also no evidence of foetal or animal origin in either
of the available vaccines.

Trust

Staff encouraged to schedule their second dose
vaccination appointment

• All members of staff across the Trust are encouraged to
schedule their second dose COVID-19 vaccine appointment
if they haven’t done so already.

• To do this, please contact [email protected] if you do
not have access to Swiftqueue.

• The COVID vaccination team is currently validating those
due a second appointment and will be contacting those who
haven’t been given an appointment.

• We want to strengthen mental health and wellbeing support for

parents and infants in the first 1001 critical days (from conception to
2 years of age).
• To do this, we need a network of well-informed multi-agency
professionals, peer supporters and volunteers.
• The webinars are designed to build curiosity, knowledge, and
confidence of those at the frontline to promote and support the
mental wellbeing of families in the 1001 critical days.

CTG Fresh Eyes
• We have been doing really well our compliance for CTG

Fresh Eyes.
• A gentle reminder – we should be reviewing intrapatum

CTGs every hour on the hour please.
• The CTG Fresh Eyes clinician must not be the assigned

Reporting Incidences
• All unintentional injuries must be reported via Datix.

• Please remember to ask the Shift Leader to check all
cord bloods prior to sending them to the labs. We have
an increased number of reported errors and baby’s are
having bloods taken due to labelling errors on the blood
bottles / forms.

• Please ask a ward clerk to support you in tracking medical
hospital records on IPM. Medical notes are regularly going
missing due to not being tracked on IPM.
