Preface
The educators around the world recommend that children's life at school must
be linked to their life outside the school. Through a persistent practical
experience, it has been ascertained that 21st-century learners need to depart from
bookish learning that still shapes our system. This book signifies an attempt to
implement this basic principle in the domain of English Grammar.
“Grammar to a writer is to a mountaineer a good pair of hiking boots or, more
precisely, to a deep-sea diver an oxygen tank.”

― A.A. Patawaran

The importance of learning Grammar for speaking and writing correct English
has long been established. However, learning English is more than mastering a
certain number of words and memorizing a set of grammar rules. Most of the
Grammar books often adhere to a pattern practice format, and many learners are
able to successfully complete them. However, these students yet remain unable
to apply the rules that they have practised in traditional exercises to other
situations. Through this book, an attempt has been made to combine Grammar
with pragmatics and discourse so as to develop communicative competence.
This workbook takes the young learners through a scientifically proven guided
progression that enables them to learn, assimilate, apply and synthesize the
concepts and ideas in a fun way.
This workbook is divided into five sections. Section I discusses the grammatical
focus of the unit in an interactive and fun way. Section II checks the students'
understanding of the essentials of the concept discussed. Section III inspects the
students' ability to internalize a grammar rule and apply the concept learned in
real-life communicative situations. Section IV tests the students' aptitude for
thinking creatively and applying the grammatical focus of the unit to an original
writing composition. Section V is Let’s Read. This section is included to help the
child develop effective reading skills because fluency is the critical bridge
between reading and comprehension.
I am sure that the systematic layout of the book and its engaging style will keep
the students motivated to learn. As Jonathan Culver puts it “The English
language is a work in progress. Have fun with it.”
