CLUBPERSON OF THE YEAR

THE REDDING VIEW

BY LYN REDDING THE CLUBS FOUNDER

It was April 1972; the football season was just finishing for the 7th Bilton Gemini Cubs football team of
which my son Paul was a member. I had been asked to help run/coach the team for that season and
so we used to meet at Alwyn Rd on a Saturday morning for an hour of football, then an hour of crick-
et.

It was during a drinks break that the boys asked me if we could form a new football team, as they
were due to leave the Cubs and some didn’t want to become scouts. I replied that if they could bring
some of their friends to a training session on the following Tuesday, then I would see what we could
do.

It was also the time that people were remembering the 1970 World Cup, the fabulous Brazil team and
the European Cup winners, the fantastic Ajax of Amsterdam, famous for their Total Football, led by
the brilliant Johan Cruyff, we had enough boys to start a team, and they voted to call them Ajax, so
Bilton Ajax was born

It is interesting that my recent involvement with the club happened to coincide with the re-
emergence of Ajax in the Champions League and still playing the delightful football that they made
famous. And I hope that Bilton Ajax continues to coach and encourage our girls and boys to aspire to
that style of Total Football.

Since getting reacquainted with Ajax, and watching the matches and coaching sessions, I have been
impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of the coaching staff and the behind the scenes helpers
who deal with the day to day running of the club, the fund raising, and the girls who run the Saturday
coffee shop and welcome the children to the club.

I am also impressed with the Ajax philosophy, to encourage children to just enjoy playing the game.

As we moved towards the end of the season, I greatly enjoyed Superstars Day, it was an amazing
thing to see Bilton School packed with the Ajax Red & White, a thought of all this came from a night at
the Cubs, I also enjoyed watching the U13 Reds in their Cup Final at Kilsby Lane, and was delighted to
see their fightback in a very even game, before their unlucky penalties defeat.

When we created Bilton Ajax in 1972, I little imagined that our club would still be thriving nearly 50
years later, we shall look forward to our 50th Anniversary in April 2022, in just 3 years’ time, and with
the dedicated team of volunteers who continue to come forward to help the club, perhaps we can
look forward to another 50 years.

Yours Sincerely

Lyn Redding

What a year it’s been for the Ajax Army!

Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone for their hard work and support through the campaign. All the coaches for their time
and efforts, it takes a lot for someone to give up their time and dedicate it to the club.

The committee for their continuing efforts throughout the season, especially Claire Billington who in her first year as
Secretary has done more than anyone could have asked for.

A special thank you to Bob Jupp who has been Treasurer for a few years now but has decided that this year he will be
stepping down. I’d personally like to thank him for his services to the club and I’m sure we’ll see him at some events in
the future. Thank you, Bob!

Thanks also to our development coaches and our volunteers who have spared their Saturday mornings to continue to
develop the club and move it further forward.

Our fundraising committee have worked wonders this year and we see the club in a good position through their efforts,
thank you to Jane Dunkley, Heidi East, Chris Pearson and again Claire Billington.

To our honouree President Lyn Reading who has made a welcomed come-back this year to help with events and give
advice on various campaigns.

To all of the parents that braved the weather come what may. Your support of the club is highly regarded, thank you
all.

And a final thank you, the players, each and every one of you are a credit to the club. Well done to you all.

This year’s development of the club has seen a few changes that have took us to the next level, one of these changes
was to move all of our Saturday teams and the Development Centre to Bilton School from St Oswalds. If you have
watched games at Bilton School or visited the Development Centre you will see how much the growth of the club has
developed whether it be better toilet facilities, the coffee shop, or more pitches for more games to be played simulta-
neously. If you haven’t popped along already, come and have a look.

A final send off to our going club members who are unfortunately leaving us. Thank you to both Richard Milne and Bob
Jupp who have been with the club for a number of years bringing the Under 18s through from Under 9s. Thank you to
all of you for your efforts over the years.

The transition between former Secretary Tracy Milne to Claire Billington this season was eventful as The FA moved all
registrations to the Whole Game System, thank you Tracy again for your time and effort in the transition and your time
over the years also.

We also say a fond farewell to Paul Tavinor and Doug Bingham from the Under 15s who unfortunately leave us. Thank
you once again guys for your efforts.

A final thank you and farewell to Simon Bullock, Lorna Smith and the Under 16s who again leave us this year.

We all hope to see you all again in some capacity at the club, once an Ajax always an Ajax!

It’s not all farewell’s though as we welcome Ian Tuckley and his newly formed Under 6 Mosquitoes who have been
playing competitive matches in a mini competition and have done brilliantly. The Under 6 Spitfires continues to grow
from the development centre with Alan Robinson taking on that squad with the help of the other development centre
coaches. Wayne Forster moved away from the Under 9s as they move to Under 10s; while he takes on a newly formed
squad for next seasons Under 9s competition. Tony Wright who takes on the newly formed Under 8s Hurricanes as
they begin their first league campaign.

I hope you all have enjoyed this season, here to another successful 2019/2020 season.

Matt Scoffham—Club Chairman

UNDER 9 COLTS
MANAGER : WILL UNWIN ASST : WAYNE FORSTER

I would like to start the season review and pay a special thank you to all the parents of the players involved. Not only has
your commitment enabled us to field a team every match week but your help and support in all aspects of match day prepa-
ration and execution has been appreciated. We have been blessed with a referee, experts in respect line construction, goal
builders, net fixers, pitch markers, last minute pitch movers, lift givers and the best home and away crowd we could have
asked for. Thank you all.

A second thank you goes out to all the players. We came together in the summer of 2018 a bunch of inbetweeners, but
with a common interest to play football. All of us listened, practiced, watched, practiced, played, practiced, learnt, practiced
and ended the season a band of brothers. You all bought into a philosophy based on 3 footballing pillars of, technical, physi-
cal and mental skills and worked hard to improve how you played, your fitness and what you do on the pitch. When results
went against us and our backs were up against the walls, we kept going, dug deep, moved from week to week improving our
match play and ended up showing all comers what we were about. Thank you for making the season so pleasurable. Well
done.

For me, it is not where you start the journey but the journey itself and our season optimises this. We got off to a relatively
good start in the league, with victories over Cogenhoe and Welford two teams who had also recently formed. We then
played host to Weedon in the cup a game which was an eye opener for us all. We lost 0-6 and were completely outplayed
by a team several divisions above us. This started a run of 5 consecutive defeats; the worst of these was a 0-17 home drum-
ming to Santos Panthers who kindly dropped down to 5 players. It became clear that in order for us to do get back to win-
ning ways, we needed to improve our match play and from that moment, my goal was to put a smile on every players face
at full time on a Saturday.

After an overhaul in the practice sessions to focus each week on areas we could improve on a Saturday, plus week on week
tweaks to team formations, we slowly turned the corner. Heavy defeats turned into narrow defeats, which turned into
draws and then like the rising of the sun, we were winning matches with style. Players started to get hat tricks. I was strug-
gling to keep count of goal scored. Midfield battles were being won. We went nearly 100 minutes of game time without
conceding a goal. Everybody wanted to get on the pitch and play their part. Substitutes were coming off and asking to go
straight back on. Players started to show trust in each other. We could transition and started to not only win but outplay
the opposition. During quiet weeks, teams were contacting us to play friendly matches. We had a buzz about the team and
the players were enjoying it. Smiles were there to see come fulltime on Saturdays, with players cartwheeling and walking
off with their arms around one another. Our final league match of the season ended with a 2-0 victory. It was a great game
and every player contributed to the win and it was a fitting way to end the season. Superb.

Player summaries:

Oliver, the quiet star of the team who made so many outstanding saves I might have been watching a Premier League goal-
keeper from the stands. Oliver has transformed the trust the team places in him. Never assuming but always deserving of
the plaudits he received, he has had more round of applauses than any other player and while other players may have sto-
len the glory with their attacking prowess, Oliver week after week stood tall and was counted during the hard times and the
good.

Oscar, is first on the team sheet week after week and could have had more player of the match awards. He is a super talent-
ed player with some excellent ball skills but Oscar has opted to show a different side to himself this season and asked to play
in defence, a position he has made his own. He has stood tall and taken on all comers, without exception. He has shown
incredible dedication and commitment, not giving in or shying away. I think there is a lot to come from Oscar.

George has probably faced the hardest task of all because I am his dad. He took on the role in defence, because we needed
him to. It was sold initially as a temporary solution however, he grew into the role and showed great resilience and perse-
verance when asked to do it week on week. He has shown himself to an excellent team player, and most importantly some-
one I and the whole team can rely on.

Corey has shown great tenacity throughout the season, whether in training or during matches. He practices new skills, keenly
showing all comers what he has learnt. He is becoming a warrior in midfield, battling all who stand before him and settling an
example to the rest of the team with his positional play. He also has other skills in his armour and showed a deft touch to
finish over the goalkeeper in a hard-fought match at Cawston. I am not sure I have seen a bigger smile than I did that day.

Freya is the tigress of the team. She wears the most amazing pink football socks to training and then rinses her teammates
with her practiced left foot and understanding of the game. I do not think I have seen anyone more determined to become a
footballer than Freya. Her steely commitment for her team, her desire to be involved, her ability to win the ball and burst
forward surrounded by opposition players trying to tackle her and her ability to try new things. I have no doubt that she will
continue to be a force to be reckoned with.

Daniel has shown himself to be a player of many talents. Initially someone who shared goalkeeping duties and then came on
the pitch with incredible energy having a dramatic impact to the game. He eventually decided to focus solely as a player on
the pitch meaning that during the season, he is the only player who has played in every position. He has great ball control,
beats players for fun, and is an incredible finisher and match winner, having scored all 5 Ajax goals in one match. He makes
things happen and finishes them off if necessary. He also has a way with him that buoys the team and at the end of the game;
other players naturally gravitate to him.

Jack has been an outstanding team player with a clear understanding of the game. From any position on the pitch he can pre-
dict what the opposition’s next move and acts accordingly. He is a supportive sportsman who earns respect and builds trust
from his peers. At the start of the season he supported his teammates by utilising his intuition in defence, helping to stop the
flow of goals we conceded and showing us all how versatile he was. As the team progressed, he was able to show a more
attacking side to his game, breaking through midfield lines, as a loan striker and in free roles and he showed exactly the player
he is, in a superb finish in a hat trick away performance with a strike which went in off the crossbar leaving the keeper rooted
to the spot.

Layke has had an outstanding season and brings his personality to every training session and match, helping to make even the
most challenging times more enjoyable. He brings laughter and commitment which is rarely seen and is clearly destined for
amazing things. For long periods of the season, Layke was called upon to act as a loan striker and certainly at the start of the
season, that was a lonely place to be, but he battled and frustrated the opposition bagging some crucial goals along the
way. An instinctive finisher, towards the end of the season he was called upon to act in a slightly deeper role which he did
with his usual swagger in a way only Layke can.

Liam is a valuable member of the team sneaking in under the radar to surprise the opposition with his silky skills and determi-
nation. He has excellent technical skills and over the season he has been able to adapt to the intensity of game play and pro-
vide some incredible moments of game winning football. In our only 0-1 victory of the season, it was Liam who sandwiched
between two defenders and baring down on goal with the goalkeeper leaving his line, he finished with a sublime shot into the
bottom right corner, leaving opposition defenders in his wake.

Kyle joined us part way through the season, but it has felt as though he has been with us all season. He gelled with the team
instantly, and it is credit to him that he could come along and become the final member of an established team. He regularly
impresses with his mazy runs and ball control. He pops up in the right place at the right time and bagged two quick fire goals
in an away victory following a biblical hailstorm which threatened to postpone the game. There is no mistaking that Kyle is a
football player and he has great understanding where he needs to be.

Under 9 juniors

Manager : sam mushing-rimmer asst : rob Montgomery

This season has been a very good season for our under 9s Juniors. It was our first full season and it started
on the back of a tournament win at Spencer where we went the whole tournament only conceding one
goal and going unbeaten.

We had 3 new arrivals for the jump to 7 a side with Lucas and Victor joining us from the start of the sea-
son and then Brogan making the move from the Autobots to give us a squad of 11.

We found ourselves playing at a higher level than the previous season and we certainly held our own,
xmas time came and so did the cold weather (which we don't like) and the team struggled with a few per-
formances against more established teams.

They still gave it their all and really started to show some good character and the right attitude, January
came and the leagues were shuffled and the Juniors really came into their own, leaders on the pitch were
evident and some really good football was being played, we just wasn't getting the results, confidence
and calmness was key and IMO and Rob's it's a marathon not a sprint and we kept to our philosophy, the
last 2 months of football and the results then went our way with some really big score lines often playing
the "mercy" rule against more players as well. So, we went the season with approximately 25 games
played, we scored 129 Goals and there were 81 assists! So, an average of just over 5 goals per game and
just over 3 assists, so a lot of team goals mixed with individual brilliance.

The players have been amazing this season and also the parents who turn up in numbers for training and
matches and we can honestly say we are all like a little family, special mention to Emma for helping with
training as well as Martin when either Rob or I couldn't be there and also our super star Ref Webby! Obvi-
ously the last but certainly not least thanks go to the wives for putting up with our constant football talk,
messy kits and the little black rubbery balls from the astro that get EVERYWHERE!

Can't wait to see what next season brings! Up the AJAX!

Under 10 REDDINGS

Manager : MAL CONSTABLE ASST : MIKE DOBSON

The 2018/2019 season saw the introduction of a brand -new squad, The Reddings. The squad
is named after the founder of Bilton Ajax, Lyn Redding. It ’s a credit to the club that 8 out of
the 10 players came from the Saturday morning development centre.
Our first game of the season was on the 10 th November. Before the match started, all the
teams at the ground came together for two minutes silence to remember the service per-
sonnel that have died in the line of duty. A very moving occasion, it was great that all teams
(home and away) observed the occasion together. The game itself ended in a 5 -2 defeat to
Brixworth Jaguars, however the lads played some great football and their enthusiasm shone
through.
The Redding’s first win came on the 8th December in the Bilton Derby, a 2-1 win. Since then
the lads have consistently improved, our biggest win was 7-0. On the 16th March we played
the Brixworth rematch, a game which we won 4-0, this shows how much the team has im-
proved in such a relatively short space of time.

The squad’s philosophy is pass and move, keep ball. The lads have embraced this really well
and rarely resort to the long ball game.

It has been a real pleasure to coach the lads; the squad has so much potential. It is also
nice to give something back to the game which I enjoyed playing for over twenty years.

The only way is up!

What a season for the Autobots.
The boys have improved so much since last season. We picked up some big wins, some hard
-fought draws and some unfortunate losses.
I think the highlight of our season has been the friendly rivalry between us and the Red-
dings, which has produced some brilliant games.
Joe and I are extremely proud of each and every one of the boys and are proud to call our-
selves their coaches.
They have achieved much more than expected this season and we cannot wait to see what
next season brings.
Well done boys, you have all been brilliant.

Thank you to our outgoing sponsor Elliott’s Field. Also, congratulations to Bob you leave the
club in a much better place, thank you.

Mums & Dads - taxi service – number one fan club thank you again for your support. Hope
you enjoyed watching them as much as I have.

Last year we encouraged the kids to dribble or run with the ball as much as possible, this
may have been seen by some, as them being greedy players, but we wanted them to be-
come as comfortable with the ball at their feet as possible. Now we have moved on a year
and they understand the game a little more, we have asked them to be aware of their sur-
roundings on the pitch. We ask if they have the ball it ’s not JUST dribble or JUST PASS…..it’s
WHEN should I dribble or WHEN do I pass, we ’re not after robotic players who can only play
on command…..we want them to be aware not because I have asked, but to be more intelli-
gent than the opposition and recognise opportunities themselves.

Their progress this year has been fantastic; it was rewarded with a great cup run, falling just
short in the semi-final a fantastic achievement considering there are close to 50 teams in
our age group. They have played some really entertaining football and been involved in
some nail-biting games. They deservedly have been moved up the tiers, our last handful of
matches have been a step-up in quality, but they have matched the teams we have played,
holding their own without necessarily getting what they deserved.

I’d like to say thank you to the players for their efforts …..Kas has made some outstanding
matching winning saves, Noah’s reading of the game, and perfectly timed tackles, Oliver ’s
superb attitude and skills, he’s put in a shift for the team this season, Austin ’s work rate and
ability to sniff out danger then deal with it, Seth ’s ball wizardry and vision has blown my
mind, Lila’s awareness and pinpoint passing just like Alex Greenwood, Aiden ’s determina-
tion and goals his overhead kick in the QF was my goal of the season, Ollie ’s massively im-
proved decision making and long distance rockets, Charlie’s all-round game has been out-
standing, and due to his hard work it’s got him into the shadow squad at Northampton
Town.

We move next year to 9v9 with offsides bigger pitches, we all look to keep improving and defiantly to
keep having a laugh along the way.

All in all, a very good season for these guys and girl. Many of the squad staying together
and playing some wonderful passing football. Special thanks to the parents for their help,
be it running the line or helping to pack the equipment up at the end of of games.
While I was only in charge for 3 games, they played some exceptional passing football. And
while we had a few unfortunate results we did pick up a superb 3 -1 home win over Towces-

I wish them all the best for next season and firmly believe that they will be a force to be

Moving up to 11 a side, after an uncertain pre -season period we were grateful to welcome the 5
new additions to the squad, Isaac, William, Cory, Ariyan and Alex and we were able to embark on
another season together. It didn’t take the players long to gel in the new format, and more of the
existing players this season have continued to develop and show their improvement consistently
week in week out which is great to see.

The demands of competing in this league at this age group were obvious with the physicality of the
teams we came up against in the first few games of the season. We do not have the tallest squad
in the league, but the boys have never been short of spirit this season, they have shown respect
and remained calm when the opposition have tried to get a reaction and they are a credit to the
club for many reasons. This can be a challenging age for the boys, although once again this sea-
son, they continue to show respect and work hard in their efforts at training and games and alt-
hough at times this season has been challenging, I can honestly say what an honest and focused
bunch of lads play for this team and it is rewarding to see them grow and develop as players to-
gether, with a smile on their face and enjoying their football.

For the majority of games played, the boys have been involved in competitive games in a competi-
tive league, where most teams could all be capable of beating each other on their day - as much of
the season showed. Our two best performances of the season were beating Santos Panthers at
home 2-1, and a battling 3-3 draw against Parklands Tigers Amber, both very entertaining games to
watch. Due to injuries and illness, our numbers have been low at times, but credit to all the play-
ers for their attitudes and efforts when we played against large squads from big clubs, our second
draw against Parklands Tigers was also a real achievement under the circumstances.

Thank you to Justin for all his support and assistance at training and match days. Also, thanks to
all the parents who regularly give lifts, run the line and support the club at events and for provid-
ing donations for the welfare of the club. This team has dedicated support from the parents, and I
am very grateful for their offers of help throughout the season. Thanks to Heidi for taking on the
majority of the organisation for our team, and clear communications, as well as being a “learning”
timekeeper and number 2 in Justin’s absence. Also, for the support she gives not just for our team
but at the Saturday development centre and club events as well.

I wish the best of luck to Reuben and Matty who are leaving the team, both of whom will be
missed and have been a big part of the success of this team with their efforts and commitment.

Thanks to Chris Pearson from ‘Pickitpackitsendit’ for sponsoring the team.

Another season gone (not sure where that went!) . A final note of thanks goes to Claire Billington
for all her hard work and support in a season of significant change for the whole club.

Well done to Blayze, James, Charlie, Jack, Toby, Ariyan, Cory, William, Isaac, Thomas, Reuben,
Matty, Joseph, Timmy and Alex - I’m very proud of all that you have achieved and contributed this
season.

The U13 Reds started the season with the move up to the A league and 11 aside football.

New to the squad were Euan in goal, Herbie for left back/midfield and Charlie for centre

midfield. To start the season, tough games away to ON Chenecks - more about them later,

and home to Delapre, where both times last minute goals cost us sadly. The learning, devel-

opment and determination were there though to sort things out. Next time out we put

down a marker with a crazy away game v Harpole- where we ran out 9-3 winners, playing

some superb counter attacking football, followed up with another win 'across the rounda-

bout ' at Kislingbury. A chance comment by Reds striker Danny, and I was off to watch a

player with no team, an old teammate of some of the squad years ago - Johnie. So Johnie

completed our squad for the season with a quick mad signing done.

The following Sunday Ajax hosted GLK blue and a heroic performance from the whole squad
saw a real line in the sand 2-1 win. With fixtures coming thick and fast, more good results
with performances still improving too. New players settling in with Euan becoming a real
force in goal, behind a tough defence with Herbie commanding at left back and Oliver and
Johnie centrally building a great partnership, and Ted working well in his old role at right
back. The defence were protected by Arjun and Charlie in front of them scrapping for the
ball and moving us up the pitch well, Out wide Edward, Josh, and Diesel supplied the am-
munition for Jack, Danny and Matthew with goals really flowing.

A trip to Kettering in the county cup did for us in that completion where our league form
deserted us sadly. Another stand out game was ON Chenecks at Alwyn Road with sickness
hitting hard including no keeper, with Diesel putting the gloves on. With players missing that
day the performance was incredible, running out comfortable winners. A run of nine
straight wins in the league and cup was incredible from the boys before Christmas. During
this time our lethal front three of Jack, Danny and Josh scored a hatful with the team be-
hind them creating and defending as a group.
We were brought back down to earth away to Delapre with Oliver going in goal for an in-
jured Euan in the second half. A real sickener to go into Christmas - but it definitely focused
the mind of everyone! After Christmas with fitness work from Martin really helping the
squad, the boys started well again, with us even topping the league for a few weeks!
With league games running out our cup run continued, with the usual Ajax thing of doing
things the hard way bringing a great comeback win at GLK blue in the quarter finals with a
late equaliser and a penalty shootout win. Another trip to Kettering this time to play San-
tos, was another day where the result didn't match the early promise, but it was within a
tough run of fixtures where the squad was stretched. After a late defeat to GLK blue, Santos
awaited us at Alwyn Road in the cup semi... Another stand out day for the team with Alamo
like defending from our defence and a goalkeeping masterclass aided by a real team effort
in front of them. Diesel off the bench to score a double was the manager's masterstroke - I
claim!, Two more league games rounded off with a game back down at our old home of Ad-
dison Road where we scared the eventual league winners Santos with our 'never giving up' -
their managers words and played some really strong powerful football.

So, to the cup final at Rugby Town v ON Chenecks - the support and the turnout was incredible- truly
humbling. The boys as usual took a while to get going, with a Matthew 'predicted in the stars goal' and
Jack's touch on Josh's free kick- bringing us back level. Chances both ends and it wasn't to be… down to

penalties.
With bravery all round, sadly we came out runners up in the shootout. With the sadness turning quickly
into proudness it was a day where this team stood up and could do no more- like they have done all sea-
son. To end the season with a league total which would keep a team in the Premier League was an in-
credible performance by the boys in their first season in the A league.

Finally a big thank you to all the parents/ grandparents/ friends who have followed us everywhere, includ-
ing a lot of friendlies and take our nets down rapidly.! To the two Toms for ref and linesman duties, thank
you. To Martin for his military fitness regime, and Duane for being a driving force for the boys, and to Jane
and Kerry for being in the management quartet too. This season hasn't been all plain sailing and through
some difficult times to those that encouraged and supported me thank you.
Goodbye to Matthew, as he leaves us to concentrate on his other sports, we will miss you.
To the boys- We are so proud of you. Like all the managers, coaches, parents and volunteers we do it for
YOU.

Under 14

Manager : kev hoskin asst : tony tresize

Myself and Anthony Trezise have been managing & coaching this team for three years now
and this was our best season to date with lads maturing into fine footballers capable of
holding their own in this league and against teams from above.

They have learnt to communicate and play for each other as a team rather than individuals
having had a couple of tough years at U12's and U13's.

The team welcomed two new players to the squad this year that certainly made a difference
to our performances, especially in the goalkeeping position, assisting the team to keep six
clean sheets this season, something we hadn't achieved in the two previous years.

Our highlight of the season had to be reaching the Plate semi -finals where we came up
against a team from the league above us and more than held our own, narrowly losing out 1
– 3 having missed a penalty (square posts!!!) owe how it could have been different.

Too each and every player in our squad, you can be immensely proud of what you achieved
this season, promotion is minimum we set ourselves for next season!!

Under 15

Manager : paul tavinor asst : doug bingham

So here we are. After nine months and twenty -two games, we’ve reached the end of the
season. And, sadly, the end of the road for this squad too, but more of that later …

This year’s Under 15s were playing together for their second season and were joined at the
start of the term by three new recruits - Nathan Bond, Blake Twyman and Selmeg Chambers.

There’s no way of dressing up the fact that the early part of the season was tough. Six
straight defeats felt like a harsh way to start, including an early exit from the Alan Burgess
Cup competition – a game which will be remembered for the pouring rain over in Thrapston,
as much as the 10-1 result. Our first win came against Billing United in late October, a result
which, ironically, has now been struck from the record when Billing unfortunately folded
mid-season. The NDYAL Plate competition ended early for the Under 15s too as we lost 4 -2
to Parklands Tigers Ambers.

The results seemed to matter less as the season wore on and it was the growing maturity
shown by this group which never failed to impress regardless of whether we won, lost or
drew. We lost a few players during the season – Mackinley Carlton went off to ply his trade
at Lawford and Ethan Taylor sadly had to retire early. Morgan Bradshaw, a strong central de-
fender, also hung up his boots before the end of the season. The call of the mighty Ajax was
strong though, and we gained Sam Marshall, Ben Edgar, Aden Noorullah, Will Taylor and
Harry Waterhouse at various points throughout the season, each making great contributions
and adding strength and depth to the squad.

Highlights of the season include a very tightly fought away contest against West Haddon,
where the home side only just sneaked a 1-0 win, together with a memorable 4-4 draw
against Grange Park Rangers – a huge performance early in the new year.

We played our last game at the start of May and overall our recorded league results show
that we played 20, won 1, drew 3, lost 16, totalling 6 points. Joint top goalscorers were Sam
Marshall and Ben Edgar, with 11 goals each.

It wouldn’t be fair to single out any player or players for special mention in this final report,
as the whole team are worthy of huge congratulations for their efforts. Lots of players
showed grit and determination, turning up week in, week out when sometimes they ’d lost
by a double-digit score line the previous week. We saw players improve too, as fitness,
technique and experience all started to develop. The most impressive area to watch was the
team spirit, and this came through strongly in the final months of the season when the
team just seemed to gel once and for all, supporting each other and communicating with
each other better than ever.

I will however, pick out a few names outside the team for special mention. Paul Tavinor has
been a brilliant coach, leading the boys through Wednesday night training and guiding them
through Sunday’s games with good humour, plenty of patience and many, many swear words
muttered under his breath too…

Our parental support has been good, with notable mentions going to Mick Bond, Gary War-
rington, Mark Bradshaw, Phil Stallard and Jonny Phillips in particular, for their support on
match days with running the line and helping with nets at Alwyn Road. Rose -Marie Phillips
will be remembered for her passionate support from the side -lines where her battle cries
resonated across Warwickshire and Northamptonshire…

So boys, Paul and I salute you – thank you for keeping us entertained all year, you ’ve done
yourselves proud:
James Benison, Ross Bingham, Ethan Taylor, Morgan Bradshaw, Sam Stallard, Blake Tywman, Max Robson,
Harrison Tavinor, Lewis Bull, Nathan Bond, Mackinley Carlton, Harry Phillips, Sam Marshall, Aden
Noorullah, Selmeg Chambers, Harry Waterhouse, Ben Edgar, Will Taylor

All that remains for me to say is thank you to everyone, players and parents, for their support – over this
season and before in giving the boys the opportunity to play. This is now, sadly, the end of the line for this
group. We’ve been unable to find a coach to replace Paul, who I’m sure you will join me in thanking for
his services over the last few seasons.
Thanks again for all your support this season.

Best wishes.
Doug Bingham
