Mr Shaun Simmons Principal
“Students feel safe, enjoy the academy and Pastoral Care
behave well, both in and out of lessons.”
Ofsted 2017 The Marsh Academy provides the highest
quality pastoral provision. All students are
supported by a dedicated team, led by a
Head of Year and Student Development
Leader. This nurturing environment
encourages confidence, team-work and
personal development. Students are also
cared for by a Tutor, who ensures that the
needs and ambitions of every individual are
met.
These teams are the first point of contact
for students and parents, enabling clear
communication and the development of
positive relationships. This provides an
effective transition from primary school.
Students can gain a range of rewards for
displaying good attitudes and behaviours
towards learning. This positive approach to
rewarding the success of all shines through
the ethos of the academy.
Academic
“Academic excellence, educational equity, and fairness demand a strong foundation
of knowledge for all learners.” – E.D. Hirsch
Academic excellence for all is central to the academy’s purpose and drive. Our philosophy is that each
student, whatever their background, is entitled to a curriculum that is ambitious, knowledge-rich, and
prepares them for life’s opportunities. Our curriculum is designed to enable each individual to achieve
their potential. Our students become self-motivated, independent and resilient learners within a secure
environment.
At Key Stage Four, there are a range of pathways available to cater for each individual’s needs, interests
and ambitions. Students are increasingly achieving very good results and making good progress in all
curriculum areas. This is achieved through the delivery of high quality and engaging lessons that motivate
and inspire. Furthermore, our students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities are highly
successful in overcoming any barriers to learning that they face with our professional and dedicated team
supporting them.

Facilities
The Marsh Academy offers a wealth of innovative facilities to encourage our
students to engage with their learning. Our dynamic, bright, building provides
teaching spaces to guarantee a truly personalised learning experience for
every student. A combination of traditional classrooms and large plaza areas
provide opportunities for group learning and enhanced specialist teaching,
whilst our purpose-built Science and Technology facilities allow students to
learn in the most effective spaces for practical activities. We also benefit from
impressive sports facilities, including a sports hall, dance studio and fully
equipped gym in our leisure centre, a purpose-built theatre, which provides a
professional space for large performances and a brand new stat of the art
cinema. We also have many outdoor areas for students to access at break and
lunch where they can relax and enjoy their social time.
“A wide range of clubs and activities extends the Enrichment
students’ learning experience.”
Ofsted 2017 In addition to academic excellence, The Marsh
Academy fosters the individuality and flair of
every student. We encourage and support all
students to excel in sport, the arts, or other
super-curricular interests and offer a wide
variety of activities, ranging from sewing and
drama to the running club. Students participate
in a range of sporting clubs and teams, as well
as specialist music tuition and sports coaching.
All students are given frequent opportunities to
take part in activities and visits away from the
academy site: these range from explorations of
key historical sites, such as the World War One
battlefields, to PGL adventure residentials and
theatre visits. These are essential in making
learning relevant and engaging. Furthermore,
the academy works closely with the high
achieving Tonbridge School and the Skinners’
family of schools, to further enhance our
curriculum and enrichment activities.
Post 16
We are proud of our successful Post 16,
which provides a variety of courses to cater
for every student’s ambitions, including A-
Level courses and vocational qualifications.
Students are expected to be professional
and determined young adults in order to
progress from the academy equipped with
the skills to take full advantage of further
education and career opportunities. Many
of our students gain places at top
universities or take on apprenticeships,
leading to successful employment.
A committed team is on hand to provide the
highest quality information, guidance and
pastoral support. Many of our Post 16
students take on extra responsibilities such
as supporting literacy in local primary
schools or running clubs to develop their
leadership and teamwork skills.
