Hi to all,

Naples has been blessed with some beautiful weather recently. I hope everybody’s out
and enjoying their rides. We had a wonderful ride all the way to Everglades City for
memorial tribute. Make sure you’re set up to help out at the Swamp buggy races or to
attend our Run and gobble. This is the event that we help local food pantry Saint Mat-
thews house with their Thanksgiving meals. And then we have a wonderful ride after-
wards. LauraJo always works hard to make this a good ride, and with the help of Scott
Hughes I’m sure it’s gonna be another great one.

A big thank you to Bruce L Scheiner for his informational talk with us yesterday. He is
a Friend to all Bikers. I hope you were able to vote by the 6th. This is such an im-
portant time. Don’t let this opportunity pass without having your voice and your vote
count.

Just a reminder to everybody there will be no chapter meeting in December. But there
will be a board meeting at the VFW on the 20th at 7 PM. Everyone is invited. Heritage
house is coming up the first Sunday in December, and then we are hosting the state
meeting the second Saturday in December. Be there or be square.

Check out the flyers in the newsletter and on Facebook. Then we have the Swamp to
the City Run in January. This is our favorite scavenger hunt. We’re going to start at Oil
Well park for the great ride there, and then we’re going to end at the Head Pinz bowl-
ing alley. Keep an eye on the newsletter for more details. With this wonderful weather
comes more people to Naples. Unfortunately, it is our responsibility to watch out for
them because they definitely don’t see us. Please be safe remember to keep calm and
ride on.

10:45am ending at 12: pm. Rusty will need some Santa helpers so please volunteer.

Chapter Minutes - October

Gator Alley Chapter Meeting Minutes October 28, 2018 Start: 11:00am
Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence

PRESIDENT LYNN CORR: Thanks to all who are in attendance. Reminder that we are to follow Roberts Rules of Order
and please raise your hand to be recognized before speaking out or over someone. Special thanks to the BOD and those that
continue to volunteer for everything we do. The Chapter must realize that people are doing things behind the scenes, on their
own time, with their own money and not expecting anything in return. There will be NO CHAPTER MEETING IN DE-
CEMBER! BOD meeting will be on Thursday, December 20th at the VFW at 7pm. Give Trudi your email address if you want
the newsletter online. Cathy Case Bradley and Jenny McCallion are graciously delivering hard copies to our advertisers and
will deliver to your home if you request it. Newsletter is also on Facebook through our Gator Alley wall. Made announcement
that she will NOT be running for President next year and there will be several positions open that people have fulfilled for
multiple years. It’s time for someone else to step up and lead. If we don’t have people step up the board, the Chapter will fold.

VP SCOTT PIGNATIELLO: Thanks to those who attended the Memorial Run on that beautiful day, location, and lunch
afterwards at Havana Café. Run and Gobble and Heritage Runs are next up, and we’d like to see full participation at both.
There were no new members. Our Guest Presenters were Bruce L. Scheiner staff members Dan, Dawn and Bruce himself. Re-
minded us on key points about legal lights on motorcycles…NO BLUE AT ALL and NO FLASHING LIGHTS. If you are
able, get Stackable Uninsured Motorist Insurance and you can call or see them in their offices at any time.

SECRETARY: Cari Lamontagne was excused. Margo Pedigo filled in to take minutes. If you have questions concerning
minutes in the last newsletter, please contact Cari.

TREASURER DENISE RUSSO: Money in the bank and all bills are paid as of meeting. Swamp Buggy Races gate and bar
money are imperative to keeping our bank account in the red. Needs Gun Ticket money by next meeting.

SGT. AT ARMS BRAD PEDIGO: All is safe. Will be working with Norm on inventory list.

DELEGATES FRIZZ STEVENS/JUDE STEVENS: No Delegate meeting this month as it was cancelled due to Hurricane
Michael. We are hosting State Meeting in December. Need volunteers on that day. Bill Salley of Bill’s Café will be donating
the main course. Jude handling the yummy dessert.

LEGISLATIVE RUSTY CRANS: VOTE VOTE VOTE!!! Went over sample ballot. Lynn printed out Amendments and ex-
plained which groups support what. Talk to Rusty if you want info on the Judges. If you haven’t voted already, be sure to get
out there. It is a critical time to support politicians that are or will be biker friendly as well as do right by us as citizens.

MEMBERSHIP TRUDI STEEL: Gave out renewals. Make sure she has your residential address as well as email address.

NEWSLETTER DEB PIGNATIELLO: Deb has graciously stepped up to finish out this term. Will not run again so please
contact her if you are interested in the position. We have 4 definite advertiser renewals and 1 pending. Bill Salley appreciates
his hard copy in the window of his café.

SAFETY DIRECTOR FRED CORR: Excused

PR/COMMUNICATIONS TONY BIGICA: Not excused. We missed the deadline to participate in the Swamp Buggy Pa-
rade. Need to get organized earlier if we want to participate next year.

FACEBOOK WEBSITE LAURA JO SMITH: Lots of great attention and feedback from all over the country and world.

QUARTERMASTER NORM HANSEN: Everything is accounted for. Will work with Brad on inventory list. Need to invest
in more Security vests in various sizes.

PRODUCTS SCOTT PIGNATIELLO: Long sleeve dry wick fabric available in lots of colors: $30 Camouflage in cotton
$35. Sleeveless button down $30. If you provide any apparel, Scott can have our logo put on for $8. George has Bruce L.
Scheiner swag available.

SUNSHINE MARGO PEDIGO: See Report

OLD BUSINESS: Memorial Run—only 23 in attendance, mostly CMA. Nice ride, beautiful day. Havana Café was happy to
have us. Guests Jerri and John Holgerson attended for the 20-year anniversary of the passing of Al Holgerson and George Hess.
November 11th is Run and Gobble. Need donations of food, gifts cards, money and participation to make a STRONG donation
and showing from our Chapter for St. Matthews House. Need to have more than last year by far. We passed that hat and raised
some much needed funds for Laura Jo to purchase items needed but needs everyone to donate. Call Laura Jo if you need some-
thing to be picked up. December 2nd is our Heritage Event. There is no insurance coverage, so you are on your own to and from
event. Decorate your bikes, bring socks and blankets and our Secret Santa gift is still under approval from the Heritage House.
NEW BUSINESS: Swamp to the City in January. Laura Jo is working on new Scavenger Hunt items. Starting at Oil Well Park
and ending at Head Pins Bowling Alley on Radio. Tallahassee Run April 15th. Large group needed…you have 6 months to plan.
Rusty to plan a pre-Tally event to raise money to offset cost of those who can go.
GOOD OF THE ORDER: Denise announced that she and Margo will be co-chairing the Birthday Party next year. NCOM
Conference in Orlando May 9-12 needs volunteer shuttle drivers. See Frizz if interested. A fun ride to the Keys to attend South-
ernmost Chapter’s meeting is in the works possibly for May. Bob “Cadillac” Butcher received an Achievement Award from the
Freedom Eagles for his endless work for veterans. Please go on Facebook and LIKE their page. Next meeting, we will be sign-
ing Christmas cards to be sent to our veterans. If you have extra cards, please bring them in and they will be used as well. They
will go out right after the November meeting. Lynn: “If we can’t get enough volunteers for Swamp Buggy, we are dropping the
gig as it is not fair to those who end up working the whole weekend or for Laura Jo to have to sweat out coverage. We make
more money on this than we do on Mash Bash or runs, and it is a lot less work.” Laura Jo had sign up sheets for gate and bar
shifts for Swamp Buggy. Contact her if you can help. Roger Janes saw a flyer at the VFW about an event they are sponsoring
that goes out to the lost veterans’ graves in Immokalee and provides crosses and wreaths after they find and clean up the grave
sites. Gator Alley agreed to sponsor one as a Chapter. You can sponsor one for $30 and it is a great cause. Tom Foster men-
tioned that there was an oil spill caused by hurricane damage in Louisiana and they have no way to cap it. Think about that went
you go to vote about offshore drilling in FL.
50/50: Joe and Robin Balenger MOTION TO ADJOURN: Rusty—2nd by Tammy 12:36pm
Respectfully Submitted by Margo Fuoco Pedigo

SUNSHINE REPORT — Sept/Oct

September Sunshine Report
ABATE of Wisconsin State Office, a Sympathy card for the loss of one of their own, Marlene
Bautch. According to the write up about her, she was like our "Boots" and took care of a lot of people. She did
her job very well and will be missed by her organization.
Pam Miller, a Sympathy card for the loss of Bob. The news of Bob's illness took us all by surprise, and we
were all shocked at how fast it took him. We know that he would have rather stayed here with Pam and his
beautiful family, but his body just wouldn't let him. We were all blessed to have him here with us, and now we
will be blessed as he watches over us. His service was very special as we heard his kids speak very lovingly
about his influence on them and how he made them better people. That is all we can hope for in this world. God
Bless Pam as her heart takes it time to heal and move forward.
Vicki Hewlit, wife of Big Charlie. His larger than life presence will be missed. There were a lot of people at his
service who all had their "Charlie Story" and it was wonderful to share his substantial significance in so many
lives. His family and friends will miss him, but he will always be remembered with a smile.
Conrad Molton, Thinking of You card and care package of magazines and goodies to make his recovery at the
Heritage House a little bit more pleasant. He is accepting visitors, so all are welcome. He is on the second floor
and could use some company.
SPECIAL MENTION:
Dustin Poffenbarger, Brad's younger brother, is having triple by-pass surgery on 9-25-18 after he collapsed at
work in Indiana. Please keep him in your prayers as well as Brad's family as Dustin is the baby (at 48).
Guys...please don't ignore the signs...he had several episodes that he blew off as dehydration, over tired, medi-
cations, etc... your body knows when it's working too hard just to stay alive.... LISTEN UP and get checked im-
mediately!! The sooner they catch it, the better the chance at recovery!!

October Sunshine Report
Zeke Zavatsky, a Thinking of You card as he goes through some radiation to eliminate the tumor on his back
that has returned. Docs gave him a good prognosis for a full recovery, but we send our love and prayers as he
copes with the treatments. Zeke is one of the Founding Fathers of Gator Alley and they really don't get much
better than him. We love ya, Zeke! Stay Strong!
Kristopher Yahl, Heidi and Tom's grandson who broke his tibia. Little guys have too much energy to be slowed
down by broken bones so hopefully he heals completely and quickly so he can do some serious Trick or Treat-
ing at the end of the month.
Brian Pence, son of Rambo n' Deb Reinbold, a Get-Well card as he had eye surgery to fix his eye that went
rouge on him early in his young life. Scary situation to have a 3-year-old have to undergo surgery so wish Bri-
an, Mamma and Papa best wishes as they all recover from this growing pain. XO
SPECIAL MENTION:
LauraJo Smith, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she and her family cope with her mother's
advancing Alzheimer's condition that forced her to move from her Assisted Living area the Alzheimer's wing at
Manor Care. It is a heartbreaking and debilitating disease that affects the patient as
well as the ones that love her. God Bless you all and know that you have so many
friends to lean on. XO
What do you call a pretty pumpkin? Gourdeous!

Well, by this time we have voted, at least I hope you did! This has
been a very hard election on all of us. I can’t remember an election that
divided the country as much as this one. The days of normal conversation
about politics seem to be a thing of the past. Just remember, we are all
Americans. As members of ABATE OF FLORIDA, we have the duty to
represent our views in a civil manner. Take the high road, the view is bet-
ter. Hopefully whoever is in office will tackle the
many problems facing Florida and the country today.
If you have any concerns or suggestions feel free to
voice them at the meeting or let me know and I’ll
bring it to the membership. In closing, I want to wel-
come back our northern brothers and sisters. We
missed you all!

Hey Gator Alley members, here is some more on my continuing report of some of the best safety
tips, again with credits to Gary Ilminen.
- Situational awareness.
Keep your head on a swivel and use the rear-view mirrors to monitor what’s going on 360° around
you. Try to keep space between you and other traffic; don’t be a tailgater and don’t let other drivers
tailgate you. The more space you keep between you and the other guy, the less likely it is their mis-
take will involve you. Situational awareness can help you anticipate problems and avoid them.
- Speed reduces your options.
Every time your speed doubles, your stopping distance roughly quadruples. So, if you can stop in
50 feet at 30 mph, at 60 mph your stopping distance goes up to about 200 feet. It’s not just about
obeying the speed limit—it’s about giving yourself more options for stopping and evasive action
that can be done safely. Think about dropping down below the speed limit in some situations such
as wet pavement, poor visibility, ground cover such as brush or crops tall enough to conceal wild-
life that comes right up to the pavement as is the case on some back roads. Forget about street rac-
ing—if you want to twist the throttle for real, take it out to a track for a track day or sanctioned
event.
-B e able to count on your machine.
That means a quick pre-ride check on tires, attachments, oil, coolant (if applicable), brake fluid,
chain or drive belt condition and tension, lights, brake light, turn signal and horn function. Any-
thing not working properly, loose, out of adjustment, low fluid levels and so on can cause unex-
pected problems while under way and some things can affect control of the bike.
- Think about special hazards that can come up in certain times of the year.
I took liberties with this article to embellish with my own experiences
If you ride out in swamp country, like we have here in FL, tress and vegetation can conceal moving
hazards such as deer, bear, even wild turkey and dogs that are big enough to take a bike down in a
collision. I saw a 12 ft. gator across the road on a recent trip. Be particularly cautious during late
summer and early fall riding when animals may be lurking near the road
Let’s stay aware and SAFE out there. Now get out there, it’s a beautiful time to
ride! Hope to see you all for the Memorial Ride
Respectfully, Fred Corr

Gator Alley 2017-2018 Woman of the Year
“Remember~ If you ever need a helping hand, it’s at the end of your arm, as you get older, re-
member that you have another hand: The first is to help yourself, the second is to help others.”

~Sam Levenson

There is always that one person who blesses everyone’s life with genuine compassion tem-

pered with straight shooting talk. This special lady has seen, done, and experienced it all and still

makes time to take care of everyone close to her drawing from her own life lessons. From being the

backbone in her own family to being a silent contributor to her Gator Alley family, she has been

around long enough to see all of the growing pains and accomplishments of both. She isn’t in the

limelight, but she always shines. She isn’t the loud voice, but she is always heard. She isn’t in the

lead, but she is always in the pack. She has nurtured and sustained friendships that will be cher-

ished for a lifetime, and if she knows a secret story about you, you can bank on her taking it to her

grave. She stepped up to be on the BOD when it was needed the most, and she was able to make

even more friends while doing her duty. If you’ve ever had her cooking, you know she should have

her own cooking show as her main courses are savory delights, side dishes are exceptional, and her

desserts…totally worth the calories every time. She loves her husband (most of the utism…EeXw)Peh8lel/,r1t8khiedsjury
and grandkids (most of the time) her critters now and those who have passed, and

is still out on that one, but we love her all of the time. Please give it up for your Gator Alley 2017-

2018 Rick Bradley Woman of the Year….Jude Stevens

Gator Alley 2017-2018 Men of the Year (there was a tie this year!!)
“Music, Motorcycles, Family and Friends…That is all one needs to live life well.”

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. This particular gentleman fits
all of those. He came to know each one of us for different reasons in many different seasons, but
will remain in our circle for a lifetime. His talents are many, his heart is kind, and his intelligence is
founded in truth, facts and common sense. He has been a part of this family for a very long time
and knows what makes things happen. He has stuck his neck out for ABATE and put his money

where his mouth is when it comes to believing in the cause. He created a one of a kind masterpiece
that all Chapters were able to appreciate, and it will live on to serve its purpose for many moons.
This man has received this award before, but it’s obvious that his work as our State Delegate contin-
ues to impress. You brought us the facts and details to support our biker rights and goals. You have

represented Gator Alley with steadfast respect, grace, humor and valuable intellect, and we honor
you with this award once again. Your Gator Alley 2017-2018 Rick Bradley Man of the Year….John
“Frizz” Stevens.

“Success is having to worry about every damn thing in the world, except money. “
~Johnny Cash

There are certain people in the world that are just plain good, and this particular recipient’s picture
should be next to the word in the dictionary. His life experiences have taken him from simple beginnings to
high tech survival, but he never forgot his hard working foundation. Never afraid to get his hands dirty, never
failed to pitch in and break a sweat, and is always there when a friend asks for help. His genuine heart grows
every time he sees his daughter, and she inherited his Critter Whisperer skills. His time on the BOD has been
in many positions, all of which he put his heart and soul into. When he came to us all those years ago and
helped out at Mash Bash more than any newcomer had, we all said, “What a great guy, where did he come
from?” Luckily we got to keep him even though he has the highest motorcycle crash record and probably
should have permanent training wheels if he’s going to go on 2500 mile smile finding adventures. He'd give
you his last dollar, his last beer and the shirt off of his back. He has deserved this award for many years and
more than likely will continue to make sure that Gator Alley has what it needs even when he is taking a break
from the BOD. He is our own cowboy that went from real horses to steel horses, and he knows everything from
heffers to Hewlet Packers, please give it up for our Rick Bradley 2017-2018 Man of the Year, Roger Janes.

Brotherly Love
Some people say they don't go to church because there are too many hypocrites. It
may be an excuse, but it is true. How can a religion with such high standards include so
many people with such low standards? I can site an example of two brothers, raised in a
church with a father with very high standards, that don't speak to one another. They both
are raising their children in a church and teaching them of the Lord. The father has a construction company
which did land clearing, excavation, foundation work, and septic tank work. One brother has taken over the
septic tank work and the other the remainder of the business. I pray, that for the father's sake, they make
amends before the father goes to meet his Savior, and before they go also.
The bible tells us of the relationship between several brothers that acted the same way. The first was
Cain and Abel which we read of in Genesis 4. We see that Abel kept flocks and Cain worked the soil. Cain
brought some of his crops as an offering to God, but Abel brought fat portions of some of the first born of
his flock. We don't know why Abel's offering was more acceptable to God as we see later in the Bible both ag-
ricultural and animal offerings were acceptable. Perhaps the problem was Cain's attitude, as he instantly be-
came angry with God when things didn't go his way. The Lord asked, why are you angry and your face down-
cast? If you do what is right you will be accepted, but if you don't, sin is at your door and desires to have you,
but you must master it. Cain then took Abel into a field and killed him. Cain then not only committed murder but
then lied to God about what happened to his brother. God then banished him from his religious family and sent
him out to the east of Eden as a wanderer.
Another example is the story of Jacob and Esau, twin boys born to Isaac and Rebekah. They even
fought in the womb and Jacob was grasping Esau's heal upon birth. Esau was a big, strong hunter and loved by
Isaac because of his taste for wild game, while Jacob stayed among the tents and cooked and was loved by
Rebekah. Esau came in hungry from hunting one day and Jacob was cooking some red stew. Because of his
impulsive actions he gave up his birthright to Jacob for some stew. "Look, I'm about to die," Esau said. "What
good is the birthright to me?" Gen 25:32. Later on when Isaac was on his deathbed, Jacob, with the help of Re-
bekah, tricked the old man into blessing him in place of his older brother. This trick backfired on him though and
he had to run for his life. He ended up spending 20 years with his uncle who taught him some tricks of his own.
Jesus also gave the example of one son that took his share of the estate and went and squandered it
and upon returning home his brother was upset because the father happily accepted the son back into the
household. We also have brothers that were apostles of Jesus that apparently got along fine. They were An-
drew and Peter, John 1:40 and James and John, Mark 3:17.

What kind of brother are you? Do you love your blood brother and your brothers in Christ?
