I want to thank everyone who road in the Relay for
Life. We managed to bring home the plaque again,
only by 3 but all it takes is 1. Thank you all.
Had a nice turnout for Casino Run. Rambo and
Dave outdid themselves. Good job!
It has been a pleasure serving this Chapter for the
last year.
GATOR ALLEY MEMBERS always impress me we always Git er
Dun.
Thank You All,
Frizz The JUNE CHAPTER MEETING’S LOCATION HAS BEEN MOVED!!!

Please see PAGE 11 for details.

Well this will be the last time you have to listen to my ramblings.
It is been a pleasure to serve as your Vice President this year. All
the runs that I attended went off without a hitch and I appreciate
everybody's attendance at those functions. We have a difficult
year ahead of us and I hope that we can build the gator back to its
glory days. By the time the next newsletter comes, we will
already have elected a new board. I wish them all the best of luck in the following
year and if they need any assistance at all they can count on me. In closing I would
like to just say aloha, ride safe, and keep the wind at your back. My last words of
advice is "our life is very short, reach out to somebody that you haven't talked to in a
long time just to say hello, it's amazing how much they will appreciate it and how
good it'll make you feel" Wingnut out..............

THE MEEK WILL INHERIT THE EARTH
The Beatitudes, Matthew 5: 3-11, explains to the Christian how we are to live
if we wish to be blessed by God. This Christian life is completely at odds
with the worldly attitude where more of everything is desired. What matters
to the Christian is to have a faithful, obedient heart, willing to love and help
others. If we live to please Jesus, this will bring the blessing of God.
Matthew 5:5 tells us, "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the
earth". The dictionary tells us that meek means: enduring injury with patience, being mild or
humble. If the meek are gentle in spirit, humble in heart, and trusting in nature, does that make
them weak? Let's take a look at Moses and Jesus. Moses was described as "anawin" (Greek
word), before God. Moses was reverent before God on the mountain and wouldn't even look at
Him, but before Pharaoh was demanding when wanting the Israelites released from Egypt.
Hardly weak.
Jesus described himself as "praus"(Greek) and lowly in heart. Matt. 11:29. Here again we see
someone that was meek and humble, but by no means weak. Though he didn't object to being
arrested or defend himself in trial, he was doing his Father's will. But look what he did to the
moneychangers in the temple; overturning their tables and driving their animals out with a
whip. He was outspoken to the Pharisees because of their unbelief and drove demons from in-
dividuals. This wasn't a weak person. Both Jesus and Moses had the power of God behind
them as you can too if you accept Him and follow his word. They weren't looking for personal
gain but only to follow His will for them in their lives.
In Luke 1:52 we read, "He has brought down rulers from their thrones, but has lifted up the
humble".

FIRST ROUND OF NOMINATIONS
APRIL 24, 2016

We now begin the three month process of electing our new Board of Directors. Each
position is important, and each position deserves the best you can do. This BOD will work as
a team to guide this Chapter as we support ABATE of FLORIDA, Inc. and their ultimate goals
as well as take care of our own brothers and sisters in this family and our community. There
will be two more rounds before the final elections in June. The rules of the nomination process
are as follows.
~Must be a member of good standing. Anyone joining Gator Alley this month or next is not eli-
gible until STATE receives and confirms the membership. Do your homework on the position
you are interested in before accepting a nomination.
~Do not nominate someone who is not present, but you can nominate yourself.
~Members of the same household may not hold two positions on the Executive Board.
~Election Committee people are not eligible for nominations who are Myself, Cadillac, Jenny
McCallion and Cathy Case Bradley.
~If you wish to run for a position but cannot be here to confirm your nomination, you can send
it in writing and the Chapter will vote to accept or decline your nomination request based on
your reason for being absent.
~If you are nominated, you will be asked if you Accept, Respectfully Decline, or are Undecid-
ed.

The results of the First Round of Nominations are as follows:

tor Alley Chapter PO Box 10395 Naples, FL 34101.

If you have any questions regarding these procedures, please contact me or a past or
current BOD member.

I cannot reiterate enough how important this election process is. If we do not fill
our Executive BOD, STATE can and will shut us down. We have 30 years under our
belt and have overcome some pretty unfavorable circumstances which plague any vol-
unteer organization, but if you believe in the fight for your freedoms, this is where you
need to put your time, energy and effort. We are only as strong as the membership al-
lows us to be and the SAME people doing ALL of the work is exhausting. When you
have to ask "Why wasn't this or that done or how come this or that isn't happen-
ing....it's because decisions had to be made with the resources at hand by the few that
are keeping things together. Being part of the BOD is a never ending learning experi-
ence, one where you can make a difference and bring education to those who don't
understand why we are an important organization. We can't let "the few" end up say-
ing "Well, I didn't do it today." because they have run out of steam. There should al-
ways be someone waiting for their turn to make things happen and contribute to the
success of this Chapter and ABATE of FLORIDA, Inc.

WELCOME – PLEDGE – MOMENT OF SILENCE

PRESIDENT (FRIZZ) Welcome to visitors and new members. I will be traveling in May. I won’t be at the May Board Meeting or Chapter meeting.
STATE will be doing a drawing at the State Meeting here in Naples on Dec 10th. The Drawing will be for a 30-30 Shotgun. See State Website for de-
tails. Tickets are $5 and we have 100 to sell. Proposed bylaw change on the dues for membership was tabled as new options were presented. The bylaw
options are as follows: Proposal #1 - $20 membership/$600 Life Member - $10 to State/$400 to State respectably. All At Large membership goes to

State. Proposal #2 - $20 membership/$150 Life member – All goes to State. Proposal #3 - $20 member/Earned Status for Life Members with a $10
maintenance yearly fee – Monies go to State. Proposal #4 - $30 membership/ $300 Life - $20 to State/$300 to State. A vote will be taken at the May
Meeting so the Delegates can take our response to the June meeting. Rusty opined on the reasoning’s for the increases.
VICE-PRESIDENT (RUSTY) - Thanks to all for the participation on the Casino Run. Since we’ve had problems with games at the casino, we will be

needing to come up with another stop. It was a good run even though. With the new membership proposals coming up, now’s the time to get new
members. Our tri-fold has an application on it.
SECRETARY (LYNN) – I picked up the mail and delivered to appropriate people. I will not be running for Secretary next year.

issues. Mr. Cash is needing signed petitions to enter the Commissioners race. Please see my report for more details.

DELEGATES (FRIZZ AND JUDE) – Please see report. If you win the Gun drawing, you must be able to pass a background check. Discussed the
problem with the vulnerable user bill. Basically Sen. Clemmons was adamant about taking motorcycles off the bill. When it finally came to a vote, Rep
Gardner felt it had too much pork added to it. It was dropped(as per Legislative Trustee Darrin Brooks).
MEMBERSHIP (TRUDI) – Excused. Paul Evans Handed out Life Cards and Pins. Also talked about Membership drive. Trudi to explain in her re-

port.
NEWSLETTER (PAM) – Please get reports in soon so newsletter will go out before Gator Bash. I will not be running this year. Newsletter will be on

need about 10 people. This will be at the GG Fire Dept.
PR COMMUNICATION/ADVERTISING/SPECIAL EVENTS – A Motion introduced by Lynn Corr was made to make a change to the bylaws
concerning 3 positions on the board. With it getting harder to get people to run for the Board, combining some positions is an option. It was also noted
that the current board does far and above their requirements. This is the MOTION: #1 - PR Communications will also include Web Master/Facebook

Editor. 1 voting right. #2 – Newsletter Editor will also be in charge of organizing any advertising. This will have 1 voting right. #3 – Vice Presi-

Day Run – Cadillac reminded us of this Memorial Run. This is not a day to celebrate sales on Mattresses, cars, or furniture. This is an Honor Run.
Groups of Motorcycles will draw attention. We don’t need to be crazy drivers. 2 years ago we had 124 riders, last year it was 78. Please share this
event and invite others. Kickstands up at 9am on May 30th at Harley Davidson. Please share on Facebook. Rolling Thunder – RiffRaff shared infor-

Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month - May

Spring is in full swing and
around the country, motorcy-
clists are returning to the road
after a long winter. But with a
sudden spike in the number of
motorcycles on the road, it’s a
good time to remind all motor-
ists, whether on two wheels or
four, to keep a special lookout
for motorcyclists.

That’s why May is recognized as
National Motorcycle Safety
Awareness Month, a time for
drivers to be reminded to share
the road with motorcycles, and
riders to be reminded to make
themselves more visible to oth-
ers.

Most motorcyclists are fully
aware of the risks they undertake
when riding, but a look at the
statistics will still open a lot of
eyes and stress how serious an

issue motorcycle safety is.

According to the National High-
way Traffic Safety Administra-
tion, motorcycles account for just
3% of all registered vehicles in
the United States in 2011, yet
motorcyclists account for 14% of
all traffic fatalities. Looking at
accident rates per vehicle mile
travelled, NHTSA estimates mo-
torcyclists are 30 times more
likely than car passengers to die
in a crash and five times more

likely to be injured.

A separate report by the Gover-
nors Highway Safety Association
estimates a total of 5,027 motor-
cycle fatalities from traffic acci-
dents in 2012, a 9% increase
from the year before. Many of
those deaths could have been
prevented if motorists were more
mindful of safety. ….. By

SUNSHINE REPORT — March

Richard Robinson, a Get Well/Thinking of You card for his serious
stay in ICU as he is suffering from heart related issues. As of this
report, he is recovering slowly, but has a long way to go. Prayers
to Richard, Susie and their family.

Tressa Johnson, a Sympathy card for the loss of her Dad. When
God takes our parents home, we are left to make sure that we se-
cure our own happiness as that is what they wanted for us all
along. Hugs to Miss Tressa.

Jack West, a Sympathy card for the loss of his Aunt Hester. The
joy this woman gave to many will not be forgotten and her legacy
will inspire their family for eternity.

*Just remember, we cannot grow and become better versions of
ourselves without struggles to overcome, sadness to endure, and
loss to inspire. It makes us be thankful for what surrounds us
now....and there is always more good than bad.

SUNSHINE REPORT — April

Denise Russo and Brett Curro, close friend and son of
Tom Curro, Sympathy cards as Tom passed away on
April 19th after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer
in January. Tommy was a kind friend to many and was
fun to talk to when we got the chance to hang out and
ride with him. He will be missed by many and remem-
bered fondly. Our love and prayers to Denise and Brett.

Please keep Don Korff in your prayers. He has been di-
agnosed with cancer and is coping with it as best he
can. He and Barb are living life each day and dealing
with what comes ahead of them. He would love your
hugs so when you see him out and about, please talk to
him and let him know how much we love him.

THIS IS THE LATEST REPORT FROM DARRIN BROOKS, STATE LEGISLATIVE TRUSTEE

EVERS, GAETZ POISED FOR PANHANDLE BATTLE
In what could be one of the state's most hotly contested congressional primary battles, state Sen. Greg Evers said Monday
he is running for an open Northwest Florida seat being vacated by veteran U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller. Evers, a Baker Republican,
enters an already-crowded GOP field, which includes state Rep. Matt Gaetz and James Zumwalt, an Iraq war veteran who
also served as an aide to Miller. After toying with the possibility of running for weeks, Evers on Saturday filed a statement of
candidacy for Congressional District 1 with the Federal Elections Commission, setting up what could be a grudge match
with fellow state legislator Gaetz, who announced his candidacy for the seat almost a month ago. "After prayerful considera-
tion, I'm humbled and honored to announce my candidacy for CD 1. Many of the residents of the Panhandle have asked me
to run because we need someone that will uphold the Panhandle values in D.C. As a lifelong resident of the Panhandle, I'm
ready to carry our message to D.C., just as Jeff Miller did," Evers told The News Service of Florida in a telephone interview
Monday. Evers, a 60-year-old farmer, said he intends to formally announce his entrance into the race at a press conference
Tuesday morning in Milton. Evers in 2001 won a special election for the state House, where he served until his election to
the Senate in 2010. The Northwest Florida district --- one of the state's most conservative --- abuts the Alabama border and
spans Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton counties and includes most of Holmes County. The winner of the Aug.
30 GOP primary is almost certain to go to Washington, and a match-up between Gaetz and Evers could result in the type of
political slugfest that the Panhandle is known for. Gaetz has already raised more than $350,000, including putting more than
$100,000 of his own money into the race. But Evers, known among reporters for a droll wit delivered in a thick Southern
drawl, didn't flinch when asked about Gaetz's campaign war chest. "The last time I checked, it's the voters that elect, not
dollars," he said.

***Please remember that Greg Evers has been a HUGE supporter of ABATE since the beginning of his career. He
would continue to be a HUGE ally to all motorcyclist if elected to the US Congress. We would have another pro-motorcycle
friend in Washington to help us battle ethanol, motorcycle only checkpoints, NHTSA and whatever else may come down the
road.

SCOTT SIGNS TREATMENT, MILITARY BILLS
Gov. Rick Scott on Friday signed two bills that are expected to help people get mental-health or substance-abuse treatment
and make it easier for military personnel from Florida to vote. Scott also vetoed a controversial overhaul of alimony laws (SB
668). With those moves, Scott finished acting on all 272 bills --- including the state budget --- approved by the Legislature
this year. He signed all but three. The treatment measure (SB 12) includes what is known as a "no wrong door" policy,
which would allow people who need mental-health or substance-abuse treatment to get it no matter how they enter the sys-
tems --- whether through criminal offenses or personal crises. To do that, the bill would create central receiving facilities to
function as single points of access to emergency care and intervention services. Senate Health and Human Services Appro-
priations Chairman Rene Garcia, R-Hialeah, sponsored the bill, with House Children, Families and Seniors Chairwoman
Gayle Harrell, R-Stuart, and Rep. Kathleen Peters, R-Treasure Island, spearheading the issue in the House. The military-
related measure (SB 184) creates a task force to review the development of an online voting system for overseas military
voters as a way to return completed absentee ballots. The new law, sponsored by Sen. Aaron Bean, R-Fernandina Beach,
and Rep. Greg Steube, R-Sarasota, also requires landlords to act within seven days on lease applications submitted by ser-
vice members. The bill also makes clear that former members of the Florida National Guard are eligible for the Florida Vet-
erans' Hall of Fame.

NRA SEEKS VOICE IN OPEN-CARRY COURT BATTLE
The National Rifle Association is seeking to file a friend-of-the-court brief in a Florida Supreme Court case that challenges
the constitutionality of a state ban on people openly carrying guns. The NRA on Thursday filed a motion asking for permis-
sion to file a brief in the challenge brought by Dale Norman, who was arrested in 2012 in Fort Pierce while openly carrying a
gun in a holster. After a jury found Norman guilty of a misdemeanor charge, the 4th District Court of Appeal upheld the
state's ban on openly carrying guns, ruling it does not violate constitutional rights to bear arms. The NRA's motion did not
present extensive arguments, but the document said it is "critical that this (Supreme) Court hold that the open and peaceful
bearing of arms is constitutionally protected conduct." In the motion, the NRA also noted it was "deeply involved" in support-
ing Florida legislation this year that would have allowed people with concealed-weapons licenses to openly carry firearms.
That legislation was approved by the House but died in the Senate Judiciary Committee. The Supreme Court has allowed
the national group Everytown for Gun Safety to file a brief in the Norman case. That group opposes the open carrying of
guns and used its brief to trace a long history of restrictions, saying "Florida's law does not even implicate the Second
Amendment --- let alone violate it." The Supreme Court is expected to hear arguments in the case June 8.

ALL 2016 SESSION BILLS HAVE REACHED SCOTT
All 272 bills approved by the House and Senate during the 2016 session have now been sent to Gov. Rick Scott, with the
delivery Monday of a measure (SB 668) that would set up a new formula for judges to decide alimony payments. As of
Monday afternoon, Scott had signed 207 of the bills. That included a wide-ranging transportation bill (HB 7027) that the
governor approved Monday. The signed bills include an $82 billion budget (HB 5001) for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
Scott has only vetoed one bill (HB 1355), which would have created an authority to manage and operate city-owned
Gainesville Regional Utilities. Scott objected to a part of the bill that would have provided compensation to appointed board
members of the authority.

SCOTT SIGNS BILL TO LOWER CONCEALED WEAPONS FEES
The cost to get concealed-weapons licenses will be reduced under a bill signed into law Wednesday by Gov. Rick Scott.
The measure (SB 772), one of 14 bills Scott signed, reduces the license fee from $70 to $60 on the initial application and
from $60 to $50 for renewals. With nearly 1.5 million concealed-weapons licenses currently issued in Florida, the change is
projected to reduce state revenue by $2.99 million next fiscal year, according to a Senate analysis of the bill. Agriculture
Commissioner Adam Putnam, whose agency oversees concealed-weapons licenses, has said the measure is part of ef-
forts to make the application process "more convenient and affordable."

GATOR ALLEY LEGISLATIVE REPORT by Legislative Trustee Lynn Corr

As we enter May, the local races are steam-rolling ahead. I was able to attend the Forum at Hodges University, and lis-
tened to 4 candidates that are running for the State House (Districts 80 and 106) and also for the Senate Seat District 23,
opened by Senator Garrett Ritcher who has termed out. The candidates are as follows:
District 80 – Seat previously held by Rep. Kathleen Passidomo – Lavigne Kirkpatrick, Bob Rommel, Brandon Smith
District 106 – Seat previously held by Rep. Matt Hudson – Joe Davidow, Bryon Donalds.
Senate District 23– Rep Matt Hudson, Rep Kathleen Passidomo.
All of these candidates have been contacted both verbally and through email to come and talk to our chapter. This month
Bob Rommel will be speaking. And in May, Bryon Donalds will be addressing our Chapter.
Since we don’t have a PR person, the whole chapter should spread the word about our guest and maybe this will open
some interest to ABATE.

Our local Board of County Commissioner are having several seats available.
District 1 – currently held by Donna Fiala. She is up for re-election. I see no one at this time running against her.
District 2 – currently held by Georgia Hiller. No listing for candidates, but she is running for Clerk of Courts.
District 3 – currently held by Tom Henning. 5 candidates listed. Mr Henning is running for Fire Commissioner Seat 5
against the current Commissioner Chuck McMahon.
District 4 – Currently held by Penny Taylor. No elections
District 5 – Currently held by Tim Nance with 5 candidates running for this seat. Mr. Nance is not looking for re-election.

Many things going on with elections just in our county. My best advice is “to be informed”. Listen when any candidates
talk. You will know when they are speaking from their heart with knowledge or just saying what you want to hear….. today.

Next Candidate Forums will be May 3rd for Commissioner of District 5, May 4th for Caxambas Rep Club on Marco, School
Board District 2 & 4 on May 18th, and Greater Naples Fire District Commissioners on Sept 27. Get with me for addresses.
I will keep you posted if I hear of any more.

PLUS!!!! May 4th at 8:30 at the Naples City Chambers, Gator Alley will be presenting the Motorcycle Awareness Proclama-
tion to the City. And on May 10th at 8:30, we will be at the Board of County Commissioners. Please join me. All are wel-
comed.

Our own elections are coming up. Are you concern with issues coming up for Gator Alley or ABATE of Florida as a whole?
Step up. We don’t bite… hard. I have to say, in the last several years I have been working with some hard working souls
that have done a great job. But they are tired and need a break. Please consider running for a position this year. Bring
some new ideas in. Everyone on the Board always helps new comers. We are so appreciative of any help. We didn’t
have a PR Communications, or Advertising Rep all year and it shows. Those not even on the board are doing more than
their fair share. We need your help. At least think about it.
Safe riding now the streets aren’t so crowded.
