bourne.

SUNSHINE REPORT — March/April

MARCH

Jude Stevens, daughters Barbara and Bethany, grandchildren Aiden and Autumn, a Sympathy
card for the loss of our beloved President, Friend and Brother, Frizz, after his fatal accident on his mo-
torcycle after a trip to Bike Week in Daytona. The void left behind for all of those who loved him is long
and deep and will forever be a heartache that will never completely heal. May we all keep his colorful life
memories in our souls and smile when we share those stories with one another. His white head of curls
and Santa like beard will always be his signature look, and we will all get a little heart twinge when we
see his "look-a-likes" walking about the earth. See the details of his Celebration of Life event on the flyer
on social media and please contact event organizers with any questions, concerns or donations. Our

love and support goes out to the family and may Jude know that all of us are here for her.
Norm Hansen, a Get Well card for his latest stint in the hospital dealing with health issues, but was able
to attend today's meeting. It's a slow journey to better health, but he's working at it one day at a time.
Feel better, Norm!
Tressa Johnson, a Get Well card for her slip and fall that broke two fingers on her left hand, but we all
know that won't stop Tressa from living life to the fullest. Bones will heal and Tressa's bright smile will
always be treasured by all of us that know and love her. XO
FACEBOOK:
Dave "Lockdown" Rich, a Get Well FB post for his emergency gallbladder surgery. He went in strong,
but came out stronger and was able to attend Ginny's (Lady Harley) President's award convention in
Texas this past weekend. Support your local gun shop owned by these two lovely patriots, and keep
freedom alive!
SPECIAL MENTION:
We lost a former Gator Alley foundation member and past President, James H. Smith aka "Smitty" this
month from complications from his MS. The following is the message from his longtime friend and for-
mer Gator Alley Legislative Warrior Chris Caglioti: For the record:
James H. Smith "Smitty" passed peacefully in his sleep at the home of his caretaker in Alabama on Saturday
March 12 2022 as a result of progressive complications of MS. Smitty served the US Army in Vietnam, was a
past board member and president of Gator Alley. Smitty always did things his way in his time with a lovable
cantankerous flair. He was a passionate classic rock aficionado and could quote J Giles dialog like a pro. You
always knew you were in for a good debate when he would square up and say to you, "Hey, lemme ask you
something..." Godspeed brother. May Smitty Rest In Peace and Fly High with his brothers and sisters that
were there to greet him at the gate.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to Brad Pedigo for getting his captain's license so that he can continue do-
ing what he loves best: Goin' fast and tellin' stories. Make your reservations at Captain Mitch's Airboat
Tours and request Captain Brad for an entertainingly wild ride!

As always, there are members that struggle in silence so please be kind and say a prayer for all of us
during these times of uncertainty and unrest. May we all be strong for each other and accept help when
we need it.

Why couldn't the computer take it's hat off?

April

While we know that we have members that are unwell and doing their best
every day, they choose to keep it private. Please just pray for each and every
member as we are all going through something.
HOWEVER~ I get to report some happy news!!
Trudi and Roy Steel, a big CONGRATULATIONS on the newest addition to
their growing family, grandbaby Maeve Heather, on April 18th. Mom Katie is
doing great and once again, Trudi is one very happy grandma!
LauraJo Smith, a super CONGRATULATIONS for her grandson Cole, signing
a scholarship contract to play football at BriarCliff Iowa college. The children
are our future, and we can only hope that they succeed in all of their stepping
stones into adulthood!
SIDE NOTE OF BUMMER NEWS:
Roy and Trudi Steel went down the day of the April meeting after hitting some
spilled gasoline from a truck in front of them. Luckily, they are both okay other
than road rash, Roy's shoulder and Trudi's elbow and right foot. Good Samari-
tans stepped in to help, and a "coulda been worse" situation ended up okay.
Happy, hopeful healing and bunches of love hugs! XO
Happiest of Mother's Day to all of GA's Moms, G-Mas, Step Moms, Critter
Moms and Aunties that step in as Moms once in a while. You are Appreciated

April 2022 Legislative Report
Hey Everyone,
Well, as you all know the regular legislative session ended pretty much status quo for motorcyclists. It is
true that the legislators would not even give our Vulnerable Road Users bill or Safety money request bill
a fighting chance to be heard in any committee. It is also true that no bills that would affect or restrict
our rights and freedoms as motorcyclists even made it to the bill introduction process.
Our lobbyist, Doc, is most effective at getting any possible thought of an anti-motorcyclists bill from
even getting enough traction to even make it to a possible bill. So again, we ended the session with all
of our liberties and freedoms still intact.
Gov. DeSantis did call for a Special Session to deal with the maps for Congressional redistricting that
happens every 10 years. Every time it is a big fight and lawsuits as one side or the other feels they did-
n’t get everything they wanted. This year the vote went right along party lines and the final Congres-
sional districts map were approved by both the House and Senate. As of this writing it is waiting for the
Governor to sign it into law and then the lawsuits will start.
The legislators also took on the issue of the Disney Reedy Creek Improvement District that has been
around since Disney started building in Florida. It basically gave Disney special rules to build and oper-
ate Walt Disney World. Special rules that do not apply to any other business in Florida.
The reason for the new legislative interest in the Reedy Creek Improvement District, stems from Dis-
ney’s CEO deciding to publicly denounce and attack the Parental Rights in Education Bill which the un-
educated called the “Don’t Say Gay” Bill even though the bill does not even mention the word gay, but
don’t confuse them with the facts, their minds are made up.
The part that Disney and others had issue with was this; “Classroom instruction by school personnel or
third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in
a manner that is not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with
state standards.” So in normal reasoning, if you are against something with such a conviction that you
are willing make such a strong and public stand. It must clearly mean that you are very much in favor of
the action. Thus Disney and those that strongly oppose this bill are strongly in favor of schools giving
instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity to kindergarten through
grade 3 little kids.
The special session passed the bill that will do away with the “Special Im-
provement districts”. This new law does not take effect until June 2023, so
there is plenty of time for Disney and Florida to come together and possibly
work out an agreement.
Until next time,

It is with great sadness I write this edition of the Gator Newsletter. We have lost a
real friend and comrade of ABATE. When our chapter was in danger of having to
close a year or so ago because we had no president, John "Frizz" Stevens
stepped up because of his love for us and the organization. Despite his having
served in that capacity and many other offices before, he made himself available
for us. I know he was loved by many of us because of the number of times he was
selected as "Man of the Year".
I remember after the February meeting mentioning to him something about park-
ing next to his bike. He said he had been working on it as he was going to Daytona for the first time in
a number of years and seemed excited, well as excited as Frizz would get! We never know when it
will be our last ride, but I know Frizz is now riding with the angels because of his love for Jesus Christ.
He loved Jesus and accepted Him as his Savior.
We read in Matthew 24: 36, when discussing the return of Jesus; "No one knows about the day or
hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father". The same goes for when we
will be called to heaven, so we must always be prepared. We never know when it will be our Last
Ride. Are you ready?
