Happy Season to all,
I’m sure each of you have had several experiences with the amount of traffic on the road. I know in
front of our community, it’s ludicrous to try and go West after 3 in the afternoon. Immokalee and 41
is unbelievable and Pine Ridge and Airport can be a parking lot. Deep breaths my friends. It’s only
6 more weeks to April 15. And less than that til Easter. Please stay safe, Cool headed, and alert.
God knows the other drivers aren’t.
We have several things coming up. Swamp Buggy races on March 3 and 4. Have you signed up
yet? This has proven to be our most profitable event and we don’t have to pay insurance for it!
Please help and participate for at least 1 shift. Contact LauraJo ([email protected]) and
get put on the list.
Casino Run, April 14th. Ruth and Jim Kalvin are chairing this event. Thanks to you both.
We are in desperate need to resolve our storage issues. Our rent is going up every 9 months. I think
Roger said we could get by with a 10x10 but it has to be ac because of items in history. Someone’s
residence has been offered in the past but due to location and liability it wasn’t going to work. Right
now, the storage is our biggest expense. What ideas do you have? Prices are pretty much the same
around town.
Due to job restrictions, Margo Pedigo is stepping down from the elections chairperson. We need a
volunteer who isn’t on the board and has access to type election reports for the newsletter. Is that
person you? Also, she can’t commit to the birthday party. Denise Russo has stepped up to help with
the Birthday Party. Thanks Denise! Since no one has stepped up, there will be no Mash Bash.
On the Legislative front, I’m awaiting info from our Trustee at this time. Due to the new pressure
caused by the horrific tragedy that happened last week, I believe that Tallahassee has had everything
turned upside down. Things that were priority aren’t any more. Just keep your fingers crossed and
say a prayer for our administration of funds that we have pursued for years. We can’t give up now.
I’ll post on Facebook any news I hear.
Thank you to all that have participated and donated their time and money to Gator Alley in these last
months. You are so appreciated.
God Bless Us, and God Bless the USA.
Lynn Corr, President Gator Alley Abate

SUNSHINE REPORT — July

Hey everyone, how you’re doing. A BIG thanks to
Laura Jo for Swamp to the City and organizing the
Swamp Buggy races. Both were a lot of work. Also thanks to all the
volunteers that help Laura Jo, we couldn’t do what we do without
them. More help is going to be needed on March 3rd.
Coming up is the Casino run on April 15th, looking forward to work-
ing with Ruth and Jim Kalvin. Still looking for people to step up to
chair the Memorial Tribute in October, Run and Gobble in November
and Heritage House in December. Please come to a meeting and share
with us any ideas to draw guests to our events. If you’ve never
chaired a run, go for it. We’ll match you up with someone who has
chaired an event and I am also available to help where needed. Thank
you Denise Russo for stepping up to chair the Birthday Party, and
Rusty Crans and Fred Corr for the Preservation Run!
Always remember our advertisers if you’re going out for a ride like
Joe at Regal Tire and Karen at the Parrot who just resigned.
Be sure to check out our new Gator Alley front license plates! They
are really heavy duty and would make an awesome statement on the
front of your car or truck!! Only $15 each!

SUNSHINE REPORT — January/February

Russ Ueeck, a Thank You card for his generous donation to make sure the Casino Run was a go.
He has been on the road for several years now but has always kept tabs on us and supports us
across the many miles he travels. We appreciate members who consider themselves involved
even when they can't be here. Russ has given us one of our favorite runs to look forward to, and I
hope we can have a record-breaking turnout for it and all that follow. UPDATE: He did call me to
tell me he received the card and is grateful to be able to help. May he never drive faster than his
Guardian Angel can fly.
Rachelle "Rikki" Hoadley, a Get-Well card for a nasty fall she had that sent her to the ER. Her
husband, Bob, is also battling with stage 4 cancer so please keep both in your powerful healing
prayers. May they be able to keep taking care of each other for the long haul.
Jon "Rambo" Reinbold, a Get-Well card for a tumble he took down his stairs while taking a stroll
in his sleep. Better put Brian's kiddie gates up on the ol' man's bedroom door from now on! Heal
well and steady, my friend...it takes a lot longer than it used to. XO

Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of yet another
senseless shooting. I will say no more because we all know
that evil does not come in the form of metal.
Joe Belanger, a Get-Well card for his shoulder surgery on
the 23rd. (Delayed for a week!) Anyone who's ever had
shoulder issues knows that this is tricky bidness so we

Chapter Minutes - February

Called to order at 11:00 a.m. at VFW WELCOME – PLEDGE – MOMENT OF SILENCE

PRESIDENT - LYNN CORR –Lynn began the meeting speaking about being more visible at Naples Har-
ley Davidson during their bike nights. Set up a table with safety and membership information and some
products. She would like to do this by end of March. Please let her know if you have a knowledge of other
events we can attend.
Don’t forget to update you beneficiary information for your membership life insurance.
She spoke with Bill Sour (?) and she requested he come and speak with us regarding the insurance.
We need to get rid of storage. Its costing us approximately $300 month and increasing every 9 months. The
items in storage were mainly used for Mash Bash. We have not had a Mash Bash in 3 years. We will consid-
er donating it to another organization with the understanding that we could borrow it anytime. We would
save $3400 per year. Anyone that has donated items are welcome to take them back. Rusty has A/C storage
that we can store history items. Also, we need someone to take the bar that is currently in storage. Lynn took
a chapter vote, all agreed with the exception of one that abstained. Elections are coming up. We need some-
one to step up that is not on the board and is computer literate. Swamp Buggy Race March 3rd. We need
volunteers, please see Lynn or Laura Jo. (see her report in the newsletter)

VICE PRESIDENT/SPECIAL EVENTS - SCOTT PIGNATIELLO - Casino Run April 15th, thank you

SUNSHINE REPORT — January/February

hope that it will all be just a darn good story after he's all healed up! Good Luck! UPDATE: Joe
was at the meeting, sling, smiles and all! :-)
Roger Janes, A Sympathy card for the loss of his Aunt in Ohio. He wasn't at the meeting as he
was paying his respects to his beloved family member, and I was able to send early condolences
via phone. May she rest in peace.
SPECIAL MENTION:
We have several members that are dealing with major health issues, but just do not wish to be put
in the spotlight. Please keep everyone in your prayers as we are all coping with challenges in life
whether it be physical, mental, emotional .... or just ALL OF IT!!
Keep the young people we have watched grow up or adopted into this family in your prayers as
they have started new beginnings with marriages, babies, new homes, new jobs, lost jobs,

breakups and being on their own. We were all there once, and it wasn't easy
back then! These folks are the future, and I wish for them all the tools they need
to be successful in life.

Hey, All, Daytona Bike Week, and other beautiful day reasons are happening now but it’s also time for tourists in FL
making it more challenging to stay safe on the road. Here are some more of my top ten motorcycle safety tips to keep
you alive and well this season:
1. Make eye contact
Never assume others see you. Always try to make eye contact with drivers who may be about to pull into your path.
2. Read “vehicle language”
Even when drivers, cyclists and pedestrians do see you approaching, they often misjudge your distance and speed.
Don’t rely on them.
3. Watch out for left-turning vehicles at intersections. This is a biggie!!
Getting hit by an oncoming vehicle that’s turning left is the most common type of motorcycle crash.
4. Check behind when turning left from a highway
Watch your mirrors and make sure you have plenty of space behind. The drivers behind might not slow down for you.
5. Look out for hazardous road conditions
Wet roads, fluid spills, sand, gravel, highway sealant, railroad tracks, potholes and other road-surface hazards reduce
your traction. They cause many falls.
6. Take it easy on the curves
Many crashes happen there. You might overshoot the road or cross the center line and get hit by oncoming traffic.
Watch the road ahead, slow down and choose the correct lane position-before entering a curve.
7. Wear a good helmet (if you are so inclined!)
Helmets prevent head injuries in 67 per cent of crashes and deaths in 29 per cent. Make sure your helmet has a sticker
showing that it meets current safety standards. Avoid buying a used helmet. It may have been in a crash, and the dam-
age may not be obvious.
8. Wear protective clothing designed for motorcycle riders
It can provide some protection during a crash, as well as shield you from the weather and flying debris. Keeping warm
and dry will help you stay alert and maintain coordination. Wear your riding gear in layers so you can adjust to chang-
ing conditions. Jeans give little protection. Never ride in lightweight pants or shorts.
9. Protect your eyes and face
Constant wind can make your eyes water, preventing you from spotting hazards. Flying in-
sects, dust and debris can hurt your eyes and face. The best protection is a full-face helmet
with a built-in face shield.
10. Be visible
Wear bright, reflective clothing. Add extra reflective material to it or wear a reflective vest.
Likewise, buy a bright-colored helmet and stick reflective tape to the back and sides. Always
keep your headlight on. Ride in the lane position where other drivers can easily see you and
you’ve got room to move. Avoid all other vehicles’ blind spots.

N New Advertisers: Unfortunately, we have no new advertisers for this
Issue. Can you help find one for us???

E Returning Advertisers: Classic Diamond Plumbing (Dave Lindsay), Regal
Tires, and The Parrot Bar and Grill. Thank you for your continued

W support. Your renewal helps defray the cost of printing our newsletter!

S Expiring Ads: North Naples Country Club, Golden Gate Moose, Gators
Crossroads. Don’t forget to renew so you don’t miss an issue!

L There has been very little interest in the member services directory. We

E had really hoped that Gator Alley members would advertise their ser-
vices or area of expertise in order to help other members. The directory
T will therefore be taken out of the newsletter in the next issue.
Remember, classified ads are FREE to Gator Alley members. Sell your
T gently used stuff! All I ask is that if you do sell
your item, think of

E making a small donation to the chapter to cov-
er the free advertising.

COMMITMENT
We all, as we go through life, make commitments to a
cause, activity, organization, etc. We are dedicated or loyal to
something. We have a dedication to our wife, family, or some
organization. As motorcyclists, we are dedicated to our bikes.
We try to keep them looking good, running good and in safe operating condi-
tion. As ABATE members we are committed to supporting the organization,
wearing our colors, and fulfilling the objectives of the organization of watch-
ing legislation detrimental to bikers and supporting legislative members that
support our views.
Isaiah was the greatest prophet in Jewish history. The New Testament
quotes him more than all the other prophets combined. No other biblical au-
thor could match his explanations of God's will for His people. In Isaiah 37,
Isaiah prophesied the coming of our Messiah from a remnant of the House of
Judah. "For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a
band of survivors. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this." Isai-
ah 37:32 This small remnant of followers had the commitment to follow
God's laws. We too, a small remnant of bikers, though not superior in num-
bers are to be committed to watching out for laws that affect all bikers. Are
you truly committed to ABATE? Why do our members number in the hun-
dreds, and yet we see only about 50 at our meetings or volunteering to work
finance making endeavors? On runs we seldom see very many more to sup-
port our cause.
Now I surely don't want to discourage anyone from being an ABATE
member and hope you will bring some fellow riders with you, but to put it in
the words of John Heywood, an English writer 1497-1580, "many hands
make light work". See ya on the road!
