assist all participants.
The following pages will provide you with information regarding tournament rules, format,
shotgun starts, golf and social events.
It is our pleasure to provide each of you with the finest golf conditions available, as well as
an enjoyable social atmosphere, superb dining, and excellent entertainment.

The 2020 Mendakota Invitational

FORMAT
• Each match will consist of 9 holes.
• All matches will be a one best ball format with holes #1, #6, #10, #16 being a high ball,

low ball format.
• The low handicap player in each match plays at scratch with the rest of the players

receiving the difference in strokes as they fall on the card.
• Points are awarded as follows:

.5 point for tying a hole
1 point for winning a hole
2 points on the high ball, low ball matches
**11 points total for each match

• The Shoot-Out field on Saturday will consist of the ten flight champions and ties,
teams winning all five matches, the team with the most Saturday points and ties (not
already qualified), and all Club 35 winners. A minimum of 12 teams will advance to
the Shoot-Out.

• The winner of the Shoot Out will be declared the overall Champion.
• DO NOT DISCONTINUE A MATCH SHORT OF 9 HOLES IN THE CASE OF

A CLEAR WINNER. All holes must be completed since it is a point total that
determines Flight Champions and not the win/loss records. NOTE: You cannot lose
points.
• In the event of a “Bye,” the team will receive 6 points. It is the prerogative of the team
to play, or not to play in case of a “Bye” match.
• In the event that a team cannot play all 9 holes or the match is no longer 2 vs. 2, the
team will receive the points it has earned at the point of discontinuance or 6.5 points
whichever is greater.

TEES
• All play will be from the WHITE TEES.

RULES
• USGA rules shall govern all play except as amended by local rules.
• The Invitational Committee will handle all other disputes.

HANDICAPS AND FLIGHTING
• The handicaps in effect for the competition will be from the August 19th revision date.
• Teams will be arranged from 1 to 60 by total team handicap index, and then the top 30

teams and the bottom 30 teams will be flighted randomly. Ties are broken by the low
player’s USGA handicap index.

THE COURSE
• Matches are to be played on the same nine as your starting hole. For example, if your

starting hole is 8A, after completing hole #9, go to hole #1 for your next hole.

Special Events

CLUB 35
For those entered ($25 per team) the following determination of winners will be used:

Any team that finishes with 35 points or more will participate in an equal share of the pool
regardless of how many points over 35 were earned. In the event that no team accumulates
35 points, the pool will be evenly distributed among the top five finishers (plus ties). The
scoring format is the same as that used for the flights. In the event of a rainout, the
distribution of the Club 35 pool will be made on a pro-rata basis through the last complete
nine-hole match played.

PARI-MUTUEL/HORSERACE
There is a pari-mutuel wagering on Friday and Saturday, and on the overall two-day total.
Friday and Saturday’s pari-mutuel is based on the top three point totals for each day.

PLAYERS’ POOL
The players’ pool cost is $100 per team. You are competing against the teams in your
flight. The payoff is as follows: 60% for 1st, 40% for 2nd.

PUTTING CONTEST
The putting contest will take place on Thursday after golf.

CALCUTTA
The live auction will be Thursday night starting at 7:00 p.m. The team has the right to buy
back up to 50%. The top 7 teams in the Shoot-Out will be the silent auction winners.

The payoff will be the following:
1st 30% 5th 10%

2nd 20% 6th 7%
3rd 15% 7th 5%

4th 13%

Shoot-Out

SHOOT-OUT PARTICIPANTS AND HOLES
• The Shoot-Out field on Saturday will consist of the ten flight champions and ties,

teams winning all five matches, the team with the most Saturday points and ties (not
already qualified), and all Club 35 winners. A minimum of 12 teams will advance to
the Shoot-Out.
• Should 12 teams not be established by the above criteria, the team with the most
overall points will advance to the Shoot-Out.
• The Shoot-Out will consist of a four-hole playoff taking place over holes 13, 16, 17 &
18.

FORMAT
• The Shoot-Out will be a two-man team, true alternate shot format. Each team will

select the player to hit the tee shot on #13, and then alternate for each shot through the
course of play.
• The initial order of teams for teeing off on #13 will be determined by a blind draw.
• The order of play for the remaining holes will be based on low score honors.
• Teams will be eliminated as follows given a twelve team Shoot-Out:

Hole #13 four teams will be eliminated
Hole #16 three teams will be eliminated
Hole #17 two teams will be eliminated
• For ties, a putt off will be used on holes 13 and 17 and a chip off will be used on holes
16 and 18, with the true alternate shot format still in effect. The player closest to the
hole avoids elimination.
• If in the event of a tie, hole #18 will be re-played one time. If still tied, all players will
hit from 75 yards. The closest shot will determine the champion.
• The Shoot-Out handicap will be determined by taking 12.5% of the team’s total
handicap. All .5 handicap results are rounded up.
• The handicaps of the holes will play as follows:
Hole #13- 3 handicap
Hole #16- 1 handicap
Hole #17- 4 handicap
Hole #18- 2 handicap
• Optional Horserace betting will be available.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
In the case of inclement weather the Head Golf Professional in consultation with the
Invitational Committee will determine the appropriate procedure to be taken.
