mum amount authorized by the Imperial Council; provided however,
that said fee may be increased by resolution adopted by a two-thirds

if notice of said resolution is given to the members in the summons'
calling said meeting. Members joining this Temple by affiliation shall
not be charged any fee therefore.

SeCtiOn 2:
Annual dues shall be $139.50 per annum plus $6.60 assessment
levied by the Imperial Council for Shriners Hospitals for Children.

ADMISSION TO THE HOSPITAL

The Shriners Hospital in Montreal takes pride in offering to handicapped
children a high standard of medical and nursing care. Over the years since
1925, this quality of service has been interfaced with a warm, human
approach to the needs of children in our Hospital. With the help of Nobles,
we have been able to provide a health care setting second to none.

Often our Nobles are unsure as to the mechanisms involved in securing
admission to the hospital. In actual fact, the process is quite simple and
should any step of this process be unclear, a telephone call to the Admin-
istrator or to the Director of Patient Services will serve to rectify any prob-
lem you may encounter.

Firstly, prospective patients must be under the age of eighteen (18) years.
They must require treatment involving the musculoskeletal system and
while this is a broad term, we can say that the following conditions be within
this area:

• Scoliosis (Curvature of the Spine) • Rheumatoid Arthritis
• Cerebral Palsy • Vitamin D Resistant Rickets
• Myelodysplasia (Spinal Bifida) • Limb Deformities
• Club-Foot • Osteogenesis Imperfecta
• Hand Deformities (Brittle Bone Disease)
• Dislocated Hips (C.D.H.)

If you have any doubt as to whether or not a prospective patient would be el-
igible for admission, do not hesitate to inquire by telephoning (514) 842-4464
or if off the island of Montreal, use the watts line at 1-800-361-7256.

The Hospital conducts a series of different clinics on a weekly and monthly
basis. Children are usually seen in the clinic before admission and, of course,
out-patient visits following admission.

Beyond directing the patient to the Hospital and perhaps securing transporta-
tion, if necessary, the Shriner is not obligated to any further duties. You are
not bound to follow the child throughout their course of treatment nor to incur
any expenses as a result. In effect, once the child is brought to the Hospital,
your job is done. Whatever more you choose to do is entirely your decision.

In the past years, individual Shriners were the primary source of patient
referrals. Since the advent of government sponsored health care, orthopedic
services are now available at several other facilities within the community.
We feel, nonetheless, that the Shriners Hospital, due to its vast experience in
this specialized field, is able to provide several advantages not available
in these facilities. Therefore, we require the help of each and every Noble in
referring patients to the Hospital.

61

62

YOUR HOSPITAL
VOTRE HÔPITAL

When you joined the Shrine, one of your most important obligations
was toward your Hospital. Activities for the children take place on a
daily basis at the Hospital. You are encouraged to take part in pro-
viding the joyful spirit and atmosphere generated by the involve-
ment of Nobles in the many recreational programs: Bingo, card
games, sports, magic shows etc., are only a few of the activities
where your help would be appreciated.

In order to get the most out of being a Shriner, involve yourself in
any of the variety of projects available (patient transportation,
recreation, entertainment). A phone call to the Administrator will re-
sult in some means by which your particular talents or abilities can
be put to constructive, meaningful use.

The Hospital is yours! be proud of it! Participate in it!

structive.

C’est votre hôpital! Soyez-en fier! Participez-y!!
