rom Harry Potter as I did from Tom Sawyer. Harry Potter has quite a large part composed of
made-up words, but then again, all words are made-up words such as Bandit, Critic, Dauntless,
Dwindle. All words that were created by our dear old Bard of Avon centuries ago.
I would like to point out what classics are. Some rather brilliant writers were lucky enough to
have existed ages before us. For the people of England in the 1800s, the tale of Romeo and Juliet-
the star-crossed lovers, was a new and fresh take on the messy world of romance. Shakespeare is
only a classic now because he was modern then. Perhaps what is modern now, may become a
classic later. I would like to conclude by saying that the quality of literature is not declining, the
way we see literature is changing, and this kind of pleasant change is always welcome.

Growing Old, Growing Strong
Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter. This story is of a woman
who makes us believe in this quote. It is about a brave person who led protests throughout her
life and never cared about her growing age. Her name is MATANGINI HAZRA. She was the
daughter of a poor farmer who could not even afford to provide her a formal education. With no
means to raise a decent dowry, she found herself married at twelve to Trilochan Hazra, a
sixty-year-old man. By age eighteen, Matangini Hazra was widowed, that too without any
children.
After this, she became a great follower of Gandhi, which gave her the name ‘Gandhi Buri’. She
served the poor and the diseased. She also spun her own yarn and wore khadi. 26 years later
Matangini was arrested for a protest, but she continued participating in them in the same way,
with even more determination and desire for freedom. In 1933, Matangini, now a sixty-three year
old woman, while attending a conference held by the Indian National Congress, received several
blows and was severely hurt when the British police started a baton charge against the people.
No no this isn’t the end! This great woman Matangini after facing so many problems in her life,
did not decide to give up at this point of her life too! To her, age was just a number! In the same
year she was arrested again for a black flag demonstration in an illegally built court. To
everyone’s surprise this arrest just further strengthened Matangini’s resolve to fight for India’s
Independence.
Matangini, who was a seventy one-year-old, led a band of six thousand protestors, a majority
of whom were women. Soon the British police arrived and ordered them to disband under
Section 144 (Unlawful Assembly). Matangini stepped forward, to request the police to not fire
at the protestors, but the police ignored her request. Even after the firing commenced, she
continued to advance with the tricolour flag leaving all the volunteers behind and
continuously uttering the words “Vande Mataram!” The police shot her to her forehead and
both arms, but she continued marching, still firmly holding the flag, till she finally succumbed
to her wounds.
This extraordinary woman who was married at twelve and widowed at eighteen, who was shot
three times and hurt many more times, sets a great example to every single person, to those
who fear their growing age, to those who underestimate old people and to those who don’t
understand their value. Everyone please remember, the growing age of our elders is just the
number of years the world has enjoyed them, it is just a count of those years in which they
have sacrificed many things to build beautiful paths for us to lead our lives. Everything we are
today is because of them. I would like to conclude my speech by saying age is just a number,
maturity is a choice, respect elders, you can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old!

The Blueprint to Happiness
Happiness is the highest level of success. There are many ways in which people can achieve it.
Today’s generation, however, prioritizes money as their highest level of success. The few
golden ingredients of happiness that have remained the same for centuries are positive
thinking, ensuring our basic necessities are met, and living freely.
First of all, our happiness depends on our perspectives. It depends on our views on the
situations around us. If our views are narrow-minded, we will never find happiness in
anything, but if we are broad-minded, we can find happiness even in the smallest of things.
Being closed-minded will confine you to negative thought processes, however, being
open-minded results in a beautiful perspective that allows us to handle situations positively.
We must let go of our past traumas to live happily in the present. Letting go of the past allows
us to focus on our current obstacles. Never lose hope while facing different kinds of
challenges because staying determined allows you to solve problems by breaking them down
into smaller, more achievable goals. Achieving small goals give people confidence because
they realize they are capable of success. People who have confidence in themselves and their
capabilities, can achieve their future goals and overcome challenges which lead to more
happiness.
Subsequently, we must fulfill our basic necessities to achieve happiness. We neglect the
fundamental necessities for our happiness to reach our ideas of success. Each person has
their perspective about what success is. Most people think that success is material. The rest
prioritize wealth. We do not prioritize adequate sleep, food, or water. People often sacrifice
their happiness for misguided ideas of success such as better physical appearances or
material success. People rarely sacrifice their ideas of success for happiness. Adequate sleep
rejuvenates our body and refreshes our mind but we skip it to spend more time pursuing
material success. Food is required to sustain life. It gives us the energy to survive.
Instead of cherishing ourselves with food, we often waste it and neglect nourishing ourselves
properly. People who do not readily have access to food appreciate it greatly. A loaf of burnt
bread gives a hungry man happiness, but a perfect loaf of golden-brown bread would not
satisfy someone who takes the basic necessities for granted. We can choose to be happy with
what we have. If we compare ourselves to others and criticize ourselves, we are not choosing
to be happy. To be happy, we must accept ourselves as we are.
Ultimately, living for ourselves while maintaining consideration for others leads to
happiness. If we depend on other people for our validation, we will never be happy. If we live
our lives on our terms we will be happy because we will place importance on the things we
love. We cannot fill someone else’s cup of tea if we don’t have any tea ourselves. If we live our
lives according to other people, we will never be happy. Do what brings you happiness.
Whenever you feel like living for someone else and not for yourself, engage yourself with
your passions and hobbies. Do the activities you enjoy and spend time with the people you
love. We must surround ourselves with what gives us positivity. Creating a life that we enjoy
living will directly result in our internal happiness.
Happiness is the feeling you receive when you think positive, focus on your goals, and
live freely. You can choose happiness no matter what the circumstance. Happiness is a
state of being. It is an emotion that changes. It is okay to feel other emotions when
necessary. The fundamental reason why happiness is important, though, is that it allows
us to feel good about our lives and enjoy living them. It gives us a sense of internal peace
and fulfillment that drives all of our goals at the core. When we are happy, we have the
potential to change many other lives just by accepting ourselves. What’s your perspective
on happiness?

Anxiety
Hello, my name is Samiksha and I want to tell you about anxiety.
Anxiety is an unbalance in your mind about your inability to cope with things. This creates an
intense amount of stress. We can experience anxiety due to many things. Teens usually have
what is called social phobia or social anxiety. Social anxiety makes us feel an intense,
persistent fear of being watched and judged by others. Hence, making us have a difficult time
to find a friend or even interact and talk with someone we have not yet met. Some people
with the disorder do not have anxiety in social situations but have performance anxiety
instead. They feel physical symptoms of anxiety in situations such as giving a speech, playing
a sports game, or dancing, or playing a musical instrument on stage.
Let’s take an example in school; I am always afraid of being called on, even when I know the
answers. I didn’t want people to think I was stupid or boring. My heart would pound and I
would feel dizzy and sick. So, how did I overcome this? Well, I have not, but the panic attacks
which I used to have almost thrice a week have reduced. How did I do that? Well at first I was
under the impression that opening my problems to people would bring them down with me
or bother them. But later I opened up to my sister about my anxiety and that helped me calm
myself down drastically. If anyone is facing social anxiety then I would tell them that the
best way to cure it, is to talk to someone about it. Anyone close to you and trust me they will
understand what you feel and will help you and not judge you or make fun of you.
When you have any problems that become too heavy for you to carry on your own, the
people who care about you the most will come forward and be there to support you
emotionally. So don’t be afraid to talk to people.

Horrorscopes
Do you believe in horoscopes? Well, yes or no, I think you shall enjoy reading this!
Following the Corona virus lockdown, my mother and I have a video call everyday with my
family and relatives. Usually, I just pretend to be interested, but recently there was a
conversation which gripped my attention! Everyday, we start off with discussing how
everyone’s day has gone. To give you a background on my family, I must say that all of them
are really superstitious and see God in an astrologer. They really enjoy reading the
newspaper, only to read the horoscope section, as according to their logic, something
written on a piece of paper shall determine how their day shall pass.
Coincidentally, most of my family belong to the same zodiac. Unfortunately, today was to be
an unlucky day for most of them and that explains why my grand uncle started narrating
how his day had gone in a tone of distress! Well, a turn of ‘horrific’ events, according to him,
took place. Right from his alarm not ringing to him incurring a loss in the stock market and
the reason behind all of this was his unlucky horoscope!
How he sounded! So unhappy as if all the sorrow in the world was hanging on his shoulders.
That day also happened to be the day of the NDA examination of three of my cousins. Two of
them were part of the unlucky team while the other’s day was to be fabulous!
My first cousin went for an exam, but was anxious and negative. The fact that his horoscope
had betrayed him on such an important day was a tough pill to swallow. He wrote the exam
and flunked it! On the other hand, my second unlucky cousin had already decided that he
was going to fail. Being a defeatist, he did not even go to attempt the examination!
The ‘fortunate’ cousin wrote the exam and was feeling confident that he had performed
really well, but my family, instead of praising him, they just exclaimed that all of this was
because his stars were at its zenith! Not once did they think that he actually might be good
at it!
Now comes my aunt. Luckily, she had not yet become a prey of the horoscope.
Unfortunately, today while she was on her bike trip to Goa, she met with an accident and
sustained several injuries. A normal family would inquire about her health and hope that
she gets well soon, but my weird family just blamed her. They exclaimed that it was very
foolish of her to travel on such an unlucky day and now, she had to reap the consequences!
T
his got me into thinking about how much my family depends on horoscopes. In the case of my
grand uncle, why do you invest in shares if you always expect a profit? Don’t get me started on
my cousins! And my poor aunt! To suffer an accident and the perpetual nonsense of my family
on the same day! Guess her stars were really against her!
So I hope you all were able to understand how important horoscopes are and do not forget to
check yours tomorrow. Hope your tomorrow is lucky!(Fingers crossed).

Competition? More like Compe-Tension!
Competition persists in every field nowadays. But do you feel competitions are so important?
Do you feel it necessary to compete with others?
I personally believe that one man’s source of encouragement is another’s loss of morale. You
might feel that competition makes you work hard and achieve success, but to some,
competition has only been a source of fear and discouragement.
For instance: we all write school examinations, right? The fear of being last makes us try to be
our best, but what about the person who is actually last? Can you imagine putting yourselves in
his shoes? Would you be disheartened or encouraged? I am sure we would be the former!
Keeping this in mind, why don’t we try, ‘self-competition’?. Instead of competing with others,
why not try to be better than what we were before? Why not be a better version of ourselves? By
engaging in competition with our erstwhile nature, we will actually succeed in improving and
winning against our flaws!
So friends, I urge all of you that instead of having the motive to be better than your peers and
ending up demotivating many of them, let’s be a part of something more meaningful! Wishing
you great luck to win against your former self!

I am a Tree
Well, not many of you know the dangers of being a tree. You could be cut down, you could fall
because of floods, who knows what could happen? My journey started hundreds of years ago,
when a good farmer sowed my seed. Every day, he watered me. I was living a life of happiness
as a young plant.
Soon, I became about 3ft tall. I was really happy, for the farmer was still pouring water for me
every day. When I was about sixty to seventy years old, the farmer left his plot of land and went
to another place. I never saw him again. I was left unguarded in a random place.
Although I had a few friends for company, I felt lonely most of the day. Soon I became about
a hundred years old. I saw that the city was being built. Many people walked past me every
day, for the road had extended under my branches. Few people even stopped for a shade
under me. The city progressed and more and more buildings were being built. I saw a few
other trees get cut down to build offices, apartments, and houses. I thought I would get cut
too. But they left me alone and didn’t cut me down. Few people even planted more trees. I
was happy. Right now, I am three hundred and fifty two years old and I am providing
oxygen and shade to many people in town.

Agamographs Anyone?
I love art and craft and indulged in a lot of them during the holidays. I still do atleast one a
week. Of many that I tried, the agamograph was an interesting and exciting craft. I also
published this DIY as a blog and regularly submit to the Beyond Classrooms magazine.
Here is the DIY for you all to try. Agamograph is an exciting and incredible 3D Art Project
using 2D Art.
Do you know what an Agamograph is? No? Have you seen those amazing plastic covered
images that change when you move them? In this DIY, we will show you how to make them
without the lenses and the plastic. And it is very simple.
What is an Agamograph (also called Lenticulars)
An Agamograph or Lenticular Art is composed from two (or even 3) images that changes
when looked from different angles. It is named after Israeli sculptor Yaacov Agam. He has
made quite a few large-scale lenticular type pieces, which is why the term agamograph was
coined in his honor. His work has been featured at Paris’ Musée National d’Art Moderne and
the Guggenheim Museum in New York and he still creates these wonderful works of art.
The images are folded in an accordion style, so as the viewer passes by the piece, the
images morph from the first image to the second image. This is a fantastic three
dimensional project based heavily on two dimensional art creation (drawing and painting).
These kinetic works involve movement and viewer participation. This is an awesome
project to introduce the concept of angles and perspective.
Let’s go on and make an Agamograph!
What you’ll need:
● Cardstock or Paper
● Pens – Coloured Pens or Markers
● Colours – Any media (oil pastels, colour pencils, crayons… your choice)
● Glue Stick
How to go about it:
Draw two different pictures, each one on a sheet of paper.
Turn each picture face down and mark 1” columns along the entire length of the picture.
Number each column in the first picture. Then number each column in the second picture. If
you use 1,2,3 etc for the first picture, make sure to use A,B,C for the second one.
Cut along these lines to make strips of your artwork paper.
Take another sheet of paper. This paper must be equal to or bigger than the length of the two
sheets of paper used to make the art. Also, helps if this is cardstock or paper that is durable
and rigid.
Starting from 1 or A, glue each strip of the picture one by one. First 1 then A, followed by
2-B, 3-C and so on. So what you are doing is sticking one of the each picture in an
alternating way.
Fold along the strips in an accordion shape.
Be thrilled!
Place the agamograph on a flat surface and move your head from side to side while looking
at it. Watch how the picture you see changes depending on your viewing angle.
You can place the Agamograph on the table in front of you with the folds parallel to the
table edge. Now flip the Agamograph and watch as the second picture appears.
Go on and make your own Agamograph! Explore with different patterns and color
palettes.

Woman Freedom Fighter: Lakshmi Sahgal
Woman Empowerment is not a new phenomenon in India, and they have played a
significant role in society as recently as in the Indian Independence struggle. One such
great personality I am writing about is Lakshmi Sahgal.
Lakshmi Sahgal, (born Lakshmi Swaminathan) was born in an aristocratic family on
24th-Oct-1914 to S.Swaminathan, a criminal lawyer, and Ammu Swaminathan, an
independence activist. Lakshmi completed her education in M.B.B.S following which she
got involved in the Indian Freedom struggle through the Indian National Army (INA). She
continued to actively participate in social reforms in post-independent India until her
demise at the age of 97. Even after her death, her body was donated to a medical college
for research.
After her education, while in Singapore, she was influenced by Netaji Subhash Chandra
Bose and joined the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army) since Subhash Chandra Bose
wanted to set up a Woman’s Regiment. After joining, Lakshmi Sahgal inspired and trained
1500 women to form the Rani of Jhansi Regiment. Impressed with her ability and
leadership, Subhash Chandra Bose handed over the complete responsibility of the INA’s
Women’s unit to her. With this achievement, Dr Lakshmi Swaminathan became Captain
Lakshmi- a title that stayed with her for life.
Lakshmi was arrested by the British Army in 1945. After getting released, she married Col. Prem
Kumar Sahgal in Lahore in 1947 and settled in Kanpur. She resumed her medical practice after
Independence and treated the refugees arriving during the partition of India.
During the Bangladesh War in 1971, she travelled to Bongaon in the India-East Pakistan Border
and set up relief camps, and treated the refugees. During the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, she helped
shelter the Sikhs and dissipated the rioting mobs. During the tragic incident of the gas leak in
Bhopal which killed thousands of Indians, she went with a medical team and provided help to
the gas leak victims. In 1998, she was awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the then Indian
president K.R Narayan. She is the sister of Mrinalini Sarabhai, the famous Bharatanatyam
dancer, who married Vikram Sarabhai of ISRO fame (founder of ISRO).
Lakshmi Sahgal was a trailblazer for her times and remains a true inspiration for not only
women but everyone. All Indians must aspire to emulate her achievements and contribute to
the country’s progress.

Lavanasura: The Demon King
Once upon a time, there lived a demon king named Madhu. Though he was a demon, he was
truly kind and compassionate towards the brahmins and sages. He had a personal friendship
with the Devas and hence the suras and asuras could live in peace. Being pleased by his good
nature, Lord Shiva gave his trident to him to protect himself. He built a palace and named the
place Madhupuri.
His son, Lavanasura was the exact opposite of his father. He used to trouble the sages and
brahmins. He used to kill and eat his friends if they won against him in any game. Slowly time
passed and Lavanasura was crowned the king of the kingdom Madhupuri. Soon he started
being greedy and wanted his father’s trident. He went and asked his father to give it to him. His
father happily offered it to Lavanasura unaware of the impending consequences.
Lavanasura was aware of the powers the trident possessed and hence started to trouble sages
and conquer other kingdoms. Hence all the sages went to Lord Rama to seek help. Rama sent
his younger brother- Shatrughna with the sages and asked him to seek the blessings of sage
Chyavana before going to war. Shatrughna followed Lord Rama’s instructions. When
Lavanasura went to take a stroll in the forest without his trident, Shatrughna attacked
Lavanasura. So, the war had begun. Both were equally powerful, but in the end, Shatrughna
used an immensely powerful weapon that he had been granted as a boon by Lord Brahma. This
killed Lavanasura. As soon as Lavanasura was dead, the trident went back to Lord Shiva and
Shatrughna was crowned the king of Madhupuri.

A Day with Greek Mythology
It was a stormy night. I was in my cabin thinking of my present quests, when suddenly a flash
and a bang, and the Greek goddess, Athena appeared in front of me. I had never seen the
goddess before. I gave my salutations to her.
She said, “ I have a quest for you.”
I thought this was going to be my last quest when she said, “Maanvi, all your quests are
connected as one.” I then asked her what the prophecy was. Athena said, “Zeus’s bolt hit the
sea, Poseidon’s boat will crash onto the land’s knee, Ares will start the war, while Olympus will
survive.”
As soon as she said this, she disappeared. I decided to start then and there. I was no demigod,
but I was a mortal who could see the gods and goddesses. I first decided to go to the
Mediterranean Sea as that was close to Greece which was where Olympus was located. I was
good at swimming so I dived. I found Zeus’s bolt. I thought this quest was too easy as there was
nothing to hunt for.
But I was wrong. As I went close to the bolt a huge sea serpent darted forward. I quickly turned
back. I then remembered that a few months ago, Hephaestus (the god of craft), had given me a
device that would allow me to shapeshift into anything. I decided to shift into a blue whale, So I
did. As soon as the serpent saw me, he scuttled away. I took the bolt which was surprisingly
light for me to carry. A boat was rowing on the surface of the water above me. I was
overwhelmed with my triumph and accidentally hit the boat with Zeus’s bolt which made it
crash. I then remembered the line in the prophecy- ‘Poseidon’s boat will crash onto the land’s
knee.’ When I swam up to the surface to breathe, I saw Ares standing on the shore, with his
spear. I realized, Ares was the passenger on the boat.
I decided to turn to Greece and warn everyone about Olympus’s downfall. As soon as I reached
I told everyone to flee. A few months later, Olympus crashed, but everyone was safe. Soon the
architects rebuilt Olympus. I decided to head home. But Ares was on the shore of the beach. I
had forgotten about his war. I was not at all prepared for this. As he ran to me with his spear,
someone shook me and suddenly the scene changed. I was in my bedroom and my mother was
shaking me to wake up. Only then I realized that this was a dream; it was a great dream!

Will Robots Increase or Decrease Human Employment Opportunities?
Robot is a machine resembling a human being and able to replicate certain human movements
and functions automatically. They are capable of carrying out a complex series of repetitive
actions automatically. They can be guided by an external control device or the control device
may be embedded within.
Robots are widely used in manufacturing, assembly and packing, transport, earth and space
exploration, surgery, weaponry, laboratory research, and mass production of consumer and
industrial goods. Many robots are built to do jobs that are hazardous to humans, such as
defusing bombs, finding survivors in unstable ruins, and exploring mines and shipwrecks.
Robots save workers from performing tasks under hazardous and dangerous conditions such
as poor lighting, toxic chemicals, or confined spaces. Robots are capable of lifting heavy loads
without injury or tiring. They increase worker safety by preventing accidents since humans are
not performing risky jobs.
Robots have been designed in one form or another and they haven’t advanced very far. Most of
them are single-function machines, used to enhance human ventures, not to replace them.
They help to release humans from the regular, repetitive or exertive tasks and the workers are
trained to utilize to acquire new skills to develop new appliances or to improve existing
appliances. Finally, robots are just appliances, they are designed to free valuable human
resources for more intellectual or exploratory tasks, to create more opportunities, and
thereby robots increase human employment, but not to decrease human employment.

Pollution for Urbanisation
Pollution is the presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance that has
harmful or poisonous effects. Pollution has caused a lot of damage to plants and animals. The
root cause of pollution is the human race and urbanization. ‘
Nowadays, the forest is being cut down on a large scale for building schools, offices,
headquarters, royal houses, nuclear plants, power plants, buying land for farms. This pollution
has led to global warming. Pollution may destroy landscapes, poison soils and waterways, or
kill plants and animals.
Humans are also regularly harmed by pollution. Long-term exposure to air pollution, for
example, can lead to chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer, and other diseases. In the
future, pollution can cause treacherous damage like defoliate the earth.
Urbanization means the process of making an area more urban. Urbanization is the method of
destroying the earth’s beautiful and magnificent species and especially nature. Urbanization
occurs mainly because people move from rural areas to urban areas and it results in growth in
the size of the urban population and the extension of urban areas. These changes in
population lead to other changes in land use, economic activity, and agriculture.
The process of urbanization has positive as well as negative economic and social. The
positive effects include economic development, and education. However, urbanization
places stress on existing social services and infrastructure.
The preventive measures for reducing urbanization is to combat poverty by promoting
economic development and job creation, to involve the local community in local
government, to reduce air pollution by upgrading energy use and alternative transport
systems and to create private-public partnerships to provide services such as waste disposal
and housing.

My Fabulous Family Vacation
It was a beautiful October morning and my house was buzzing with joy and excitement. My
family and I were going on vacation to Amritsar and Dharamsala. My brother and I were
popping up and down like kernels in a corn popper. What was most exciting was that our
grandparents came along too.
We reached Amritsar and immediately started exploring the vibrant city. We first visited The
Golden Temple. It looked spectacular and its golden dome shined when it was all lit up in the
evening. It was such a wonderful sight to see the serene water surrounding it glittering with
the reflection of the beautiful and grand Golden Temple. It was a little crowded and
uncomfortable, but the beauty of the temple made up for the discomfort. The next morning,
we visited the Jalian Wala Bagh and the Partition Museum. The experience was very patriotic.
In the evening, we visited the Wagah Border. It was a unique experience to watch the
soldiers of India and Pakistan salute each other, lower their national flags with pride and
close the border for the night. The atmosphere was electrifying. Later, we enjoyed some
delicious traditional Punjabi food like ‘Makki di Roti’
and ‘Sarson da Saag’ and lip-smacking Lassi. Yummmmm…………!
The next morning, we drove to Dharamshala. Once we reached there, we were amazed to see
that the landscape was so pristine that we could feel the essence and serenity of nature around
us, all the time. Contrary to our expectations, our cottage was downhill and we had to trek
down to reach there. It was a beautiful and serene resort called ‘Prakruti Alaay’ which was at
the foothills of the majestic Himalayas. The river ‘Manooni’, which is a tributary of the river
Beas flowed just beside our cottage. Inside our cottage, we had a bunk bed. The place was
tranquil. We could hear the sweet chirping of birds, the burbling sound of the river gushing.
We also saw vibrant and colourful flowers and abundant greenery. It almost seemed as though
heaven had descended to the Earth. We enjoyed having a dip in the cool water. We sat on huge
rocks by the river and had hot cups of milk, tea, coffee, and a lot of snacks. I was happy to be so
close to nature. I wished I could stay there forever.
It was memorable and wonderful to visit all these places brimming with rich culture, heritage
and gifted with the beauty of nature. I enjoyed every bit of it.

The Magic Blanket
One ordinary winter evening as my family and I were sitting and watching a movie wearing
jackets and mufflers, I went to get another blanket for myself as I was feeling cold. I opened
the cupboard and noticed an unusual blanket; it was red with 3 white dots at the right corner.
The dots were very unusual. I did not care and cuddled into it and by mistake, I touched one of
the dots. The blanket flew up in the air and spoke in a heavy voice, “My Lady, what can I do for
you?”
I realised it was talking to me! I shook with fear and replied to the blanket, “Can you please
keep me warm?”
It immediately came around me and covered me. It was so cosy and warm. My brother also
tried and commanded the blanket. It was very friendly to us all. Suddenly we heard the sirens
of police cars and the siren sound kept getting louder and louder. Suddenly we could hear it no
more! Just as the sirens stopped there was a knock on our door. My dad opened the door. To
our surprise, at the door was the police team!
The head cop came forward and spoke up to us. He said, “We are in search of a magic blanket,
as per our calculation it is in one of the houses in this street. Could you please check and let us
know if you have it?”
I said, “Actually we had removed all the blankets in our house yesterday and put them to wash.
We did not find any blanket that does not belong to us.”
So, the head cop apologised, “Sorry to disturb you, please continue your work. Thank you for
your time.”
The very next day we put the blanket into the storeroom and locked the door and almost forgot
about it.
After a few weeks on a busy evening, I had to get my old study table to give for donation for the
poor. So, I went into the storeroom and suddenly something flew a little away from me. I got
scared and screamed and ran away. Everyone came running to me. In the blink of an eye,
something red flew out of the storeroom. My brother and father ran behind it, my brother
jumped as high as he could and caught it.
We tied it as tight as possible and asked, “What do you want?”
I just remembered that we need to touch the topmost dot if we want it to speak. So, my mom
touched the topmost white dot and as I said it spoke up, “I want freedom, freedom. I don’t
want to be in a dark room please use me or leave me and give me freedom. I will find another
family who will use me and take care of me.”
I felt pity for the blanket and untied it. As I untied the blanket, I said, “Sorry for behaving so
mean to you. will you forgive us? I think that we should keep a name for you because it is weird
calling you ‘blanket, blanket, blanket.’”
Everyone agreed with me. So, we all sat drinking hot tea and gave some warm water to the
blanket and surprisingly it drank water! So, after a short talk, we decided on a name for the
magic blanket. And the name was ‘Mr. Magic’! The blanket also loved the name. So, from that
day onwards Mr Magic and my family lived happily.
A few days later my brother’s friend had come home, and he found out that Mr Magic speaks.
He got frightened and went home. He ran home screaming, “A blanket speaks, a blanket
speaks!”
My family knew that we had to hide Mr Magic, so we immediately told Mr Magic to hide in the
storeroom for a while. He went into the storeroom and we locked the door and then I hid the
keys fully in the back of my cupboard so that no one would get it. After 30 minutes, suddenly,
there was a knock at the door. My grandma opened the door to see the policemen standing
outside! The police head shouted, “Why did you lie to us? Give us that blanket! We need it for
further research, it might even be dangerous.”
My brother replied, “He is like our family now and he is not at all dangerous!”
The police gave us 2 days after which we had to give the blanket no matter what. After the 2
days, the police came back to take Mr Magic, so we were ready with our plan. We asked Mr
Magic to cook food for everyone. After 5 min Mr Magic came back with a yummy looking pastry
and offered it to the head police. He Just loved it. Then Mr Magic flew out of the house and
helped a young lady carry her groceries. He showed them many more tricks and finally, the
police Inspector was pleased. He allowed Mr Magic to stay until he kept helping the
neighbourhood. We agreed happily. That night, Mr Magic thanked us for helping and
supporting him so much.

A Different Holiday!
At the beginning of the summer holidays, I was planning for a trip. The same night, we were
having dinner and my mother suddenly said, “Pack your bags for a month.” I asked, “Why do we
need to pack our bags for such a long duration and where are we going?” My mother ignored
me and packed the bags.
One hour later, we had started driving somewhere (I surely didn’t know where we were going).
We stopped near my uncle’s house. I did not understand what was going on when even my
cousin's car was seen. I was so confused and excited! At that moment after seeing this, I ran
quickly to their house and asked my uncle “Where are we going?” My uncle said, “You are
staying here!” I was so happy that I started to scream!
I further spent my summer holidays by playing cricket, attending online classes on chess,
solving puzzles, playing Pictionary, carom, exploring my skills in art and craft and traditional
games which my grandmother taught us. We tried cooking every possible dish to enjoy the best
of the time with my cousins.
This kind of holiday was different and memorable as we never went out because of the deadly
virus, which was very harmful. This pandemic taught me a lot, which I would like to mention, it
taught me the importance of hygiene, being independent, spending quality time with family,
helping mother with household chores and having fun with limited resources. This was one the
best time I had, but at the same time, I am waiting for things to get back to normal to get back
to school, play with my friends and enjoy my favourite sport on the field.
One last thing but not the least, as I missed spending time with my father as he is a doctor and
was in continuous contact with the patients which scared my mother everyday regarding the
ongoing pandemic. He has quarantined himself to keep us away from the risk of this deadly
virus. I wish, hope and pray that this ‘COVID-19’ will end soon.

My Grandfather - My Role Model
My mother’s father, my grandfather, was a successful businessman. He spent his childhood in a
small village. When he was eighteen years old, he went to Mumbai- alone!
He has helped hundreds of people in his life who still remember him and his generosity.
One major attribute of my grandfather that serves as a source of inspiration in my life is his
selfless character. He has taught the people in his village how to build hoardings/billboards.
When he started his company, he asked the people in his village to come, and he trained them
himself. He worked very hard. He drew all the designs himself, which was a lot of work. He
measured and scaled every inch and drew it perfectly.
My mom would see his drawings, and would be shocked by their perfection. Though I never
met my grandfather, I know of his greatness. I have always heard about the spectacular things
he used to do from my grandmother and mother. He used to be very organized, and my
mother and grandma tell me that I am just as organized as him. He inspires me every day to be
better and better. I am going to be a businesswoman myself when I grow up. My grandfather
was the BEST.

The Future and Me
The future always keeps us wondering. It makes even the richest or luckiest man think about
how his life might change. Every man is curious to know his future. Astrology and palmistry
have enabled man to predict his future to an extent. The concept of the time machine and time
travel, seen in sci-fi movies is becoming popular nowadays, with much research being done
on it. Apart from the fictitious time-machine, we can never accurately predict the future.
Some might come true, some might not.
Since we cannot foresee the future, we humans should use our greatest gift, the power of
imagination to predict the future to our liking.
I wish to tell you all how the future would look in my imagination and liking.
I would have achieved my lifetime dream, working in ISRO as an astronomer and astronaut.
We have just colonized Mars!
We are all living in huge skyscrapers. The lights on and off, the doors open and close, just with
a snap of my finger.
We have advanced a lot in the field of technology- flying cars, bullet trains, and teleportation
systems. All my daily tasks- going to the supermarket, cleaning my house is now done by
robots.
Now, this is my future world. I am not sure whether it will come true, but I certainly hope so!
Let us all wait patiently for the future, with our fancy imaginations, and enjoy the ride to get
there, soon!

The Mystery of the Antique Chariot
“Can you tell me how you exactly found the golden sword?” asked a reporter.
“Well it is a long story,” began Sam, a smart and clever journalist who works for a
not-so-famous newspaper.
I was walking through the streets where I quickly sighted an antique chariot. It was exquisitely
carved with rosewood and on top of it stood a warrior half-drawing his sword and
commanding his charioteer to head to another direction. The sword was made of gold and its
handle was topped with expensive gems and on its hilt stood a ruby. As a history lover, I bought
it.
As I was paying the shopkeeper and placing it into a box coated with bubble wrap, a man with
thick eyeglasses and a red velvet jacket approached me and asked the chariot for double the
price, but I refused. I paid the shopkeeper and started walking home.
Whoosh! A black car passed by me and the antique chariot slipped off my hands and I threw
the box backwards. As I had hurt my leg, I went limping home and switched on the T.V. Oops! I
had totally forgotten about the chariot, so I booked a taxi and found it next to a trash can.
I then took it home and inspected it for damage. As I was examining it, I spotted a slightly
different colour of the wood on the warrior’s scabbard. I took a knife and separated the sword
from the scabbard and inside the scabbard, there was a tightly rolled up scroll. It was inscribed
18.7669 degrees South and 46.869 degrees East. I Googled it and found out that it was the
coordinates of Madagascar! So, I booked a ship which was going to Madagascar and started
packing.
As I was leaving my flat, the same man with thick eyeglasses and a red velvet jacket approached
me and asked me to hand over the chariot with a harder voice. I once again refused. I stepped
on board the ship and enjoyed the cool breeze.
“Whoa!” I shouted as three men with guns approached me.
“Give up the chariot,” they said menacingly.
I looked back and saw we were a few feet away from the shore. I jumped backwards and
started swimming towards the shore. I ran towards the direction where my phone was
pointing and rested on a nearby rock. As my hand touched the rock, it slid open revealing a
hidden chamber. When I stepped inside, I was blinded by a golden light. On top of a crumbling
rock was the statue of the chariot identical to the one I had bought at the antique store but this
one was made from gold and other precious stones! As the Commissioner of Police, was my
father’s friend, I called him and related all the incidents. He was amazed and came a few hours
later where he praised and congratulated me in front of other policemen. This made me feel
happy and my father felt very proud of me. I was happy as I stopped thieves from stealing an
artefact and found a story for my newspaper.

The Gold Gang Robbery
“Tomorrow is a very exciting day”, said Jack to his brother Peter. “Even our friend George is
coming. We better start packing our luggage. Dad has booked a caravan for us”, said Peter.
That night everyone was very excited and was thinking about the next day. Soon they were
tired and slept. The next morning everybody woke up early and was eager to see their caravan.
George, Jack’s friend, came to Jack’s house with his luggage. There was a red caravan standing
outside their house. They arranged their luggage in the caravan. There was a lot of food in the
caravan. Everybody bid goodbye to their parents and started their journey. George and Jack
started examining the caravan. It had three beds, one kitchen stove and a larder where there
was a lot of food.
After an hour they finally reached the beach. The beach was serene with crystal clear water.
Everyone felt like bathing five times a day on the beach! They went in the caravan and cooked
their lunch on the kitchen stove. They brought their lunch outside the caravan and sat on the
warm sand and enjoyed their lunch. It was fun to have lunch on the sand. The children washed
their dishes and went for a walk. They passed many cliffs. Suddenly, they heard someone
talking on the telephone. They could see a man. After he was done with his phone call, the
children went to him and asked for his name.
“Hello, my name is Jim,” replied the man. After having a conversation with the man, Jack asked
him about his presence near the cliff.
“I've come here for bird watching. It’s a nice site for bird watching” replied the man. They said
goodbye to Jim and went back to their caravan.
The next morning, they woke up and changed into their swimming suits, and went to the
beach. After having fun on the beach they heard some men’s voices from under the ground.
“How strange!”, thought everyone. The voice was heard again.
Later, George shouted, “I’ve found something”. The children went running and saw a trench.
There was a ladder. They decided to go inside the trench the next day.
They were very excited the next morning. “We should take some torches with us”, said Peter.
They were all ready to go into the trench. Everyone started to climb down the ladder. After
they reached down, they saw some tunnels. They took the left one. After a long walk, they
reached a door. They were about to open the door when two men appeared from behind and
jumped on them. The children tried to escape but the men’s grip was very strong. The other
men in the room heard the shout and came running out of the room. They tied the boys with
the rope and locked the room and left.
“We have to get out of this room. Do you know how?”, asked Peter to Jack. Jack had read some
detective books. He had many ideas.
“I do know how to get out of this room,” said Jack. He tried to cut the rope with the sharp edge
of the wall. After a long time, he somehow managed to cut his rope. He quickly freed the other
boys.
Suddenly, they heard some footsteps coming towards them. Some people had come to check
on the children. The children pretended that they were still tied. The men went away after they
were assured that the children were still there. Once the man left, the children quickly asked
Jack how to get out of this room.
“I need a piece of paper,” said Jack. They found some newspaper in the corner of the room.
There was an opening in between the door and the floor. He pushed the newspaper through
the gap. Then, he took something that looked like a needle from the corner of the room. The
men forgot the key in the keyhole which was on the outside of the door. He pushed the needle
through the keyhole and the key from the other side fell on the newspaper. Jack pulled the
newspaper in, took the key, and opened the door. They quickly went towards the ladder and
climbed out of the trench.
The children went to Jim and told him about their adventure.
“I had lied to your children. My real name is Bill. I am here on a secret mission. There are
thieves in this area and I am on a mission to catch them. They have committed a big gold
robbery.”
He and his team quickly went to the trench and climbed down the ladder. They arrested all the
thieves. Bill was proud of the children.
“You all have done a marvellous job in catching the gang.” appreciated Tim.
Children were very excited to go back home and tell all about the Gold Robbery to their
parents. Their trip was filled with fun, excitement, and bravery.

My Favorite Sport
My favorite sport is gymnastics. Gymnastics is a sport where a person does many physical
exercises that include flexibility, agility, balance, strength and coordination, for example
cartwheel, back flip, monkey bars just to name a few basics.
I like people calling me a monkey or alien who can climb on anything or can stretch her body
parts very much. I also like gymnastics because I like to do yoga and so it is a little easy to do
cartwheels (a type of form in gymnastics) and it gives me happiness.
Gymnastics even features in the Olympics and the commonwealth games. My favorite
gymnast is Dipa Karmarkar. She is the first Indian women gymnast. Let me tell you her story.
There was once a girl called Dipa Karmakar. She was born in Agartala, Tripura. From a young
age she had a liking for sports.
At the age of 5 she started gymnastics. Her coach was Bisweswar Nandi. But of course her
father was her first coach. At that time sports were not strong in India because there was
very less or almost no equipment. Still, Dipa Karmarkar’s father had full faith in his
daughter.
There was once an incident in the Olympics in which she did a very dangerous stunt and
completed it successfully. That year, though she did not win a medal but she had won the
love of the audience.

School Days
I used to wake up at 6 am,
Time for me to scram.
I have to get into my bus,
Not in the mood to discuss.
I love entering the school gate,
It changes my heart rate.
It is prayer time,
Can't miss it for a dime.
The classes begin,
From the books built-in.
From biology to geography.
I make it through day,
Teachers make my mind sway.
I ate my lunch.
Sat with my friends like a bunch.
It is almost time to leave,
I felt a few things were achieved.
I get to the bus,
Without making a fuss.
I finally reach home,
And vanish into my dome.
Until the next sun rises,
I am ready for surprises.

Just Stay
I stand,
Beholding two ways,
Which will lead me to different worlds.
I stare at those two roads,
Leading to two places,
I know very well.
I have been to both of those places,
I have only two roads to take,
And I can't turn back.
I am told that if I choose one,
I can never leave that place.
I can neither come back,
Nor go to the other place.
After a few miles on the left one,
I will find a door.
Beyond the door was my past,
The person I was.
It wasn't nostalgia,
I had left her behind,
For something new.
Something I grew on.
If I take that road,
I could go back,
To be the one,
Who was loved by love.
I wish I could.
After miles on the right path,
There wasn't a door.
A mirror would stare back at me,
And I would see myself.
If I chose that path and
Take my future with that,
I would,
Accept myself,
I wish I could.
Now I stand where they divide,
One step either way and,
I can't go back.
Where do I go?
What do I choose?
What will I become?
What am I, now?
I fall to my knees and look,
At my hands,
They shake and blur.
Do I have to go?
I wish no one would,
Tell me to choose anything,
At the brow of the crossroads.
I wish I could stay here forever,
I wish I didn't have to choose.
People will call me,
Ignorant, scared, selfish,
Because I didn't choose.
But what I really want,
Is to just bear all the guilt,
That currently weighs on me,
and let it bury me alive.
Just stay,
Stay, stay with me.
Now I look back at my hands,
They stare at me smiling,
Look at how you’ve grown,
They say.
Don’t leave, just stay.
I stand,

Which will lead me to different
