SOIDUTS ETILOEN WHAT IS NEON? ?NOEN SI TAHW
Neon is named from the element Neon an inert
gas that makes up a small percentage of the air
we breathe. A Neon artwork, however, can be
made from many inert gases including Argon,
Krypton, Xenon and Helium.
A glass vessel is masterfully blown and bent by
artisans over fire to form the desired shape for
the work, an artisan skillset that takes over 10,
000 hours to master. It is then fitted with an
electrical terminal and filled with gas.
This gas, under vacuum, will ionize when an
electrical charge passes through the vessel,
emitting light. A similar effect happens when
you see lightning or the northern lights. Neon
is essentially lightning in a bottle !

societies at large.
COLD CELL, 2018
Cold Cell is a neon sculptural work that explores physicality and its
interpretation. The individual is objectified via representation of self through
physicality. The simplification is extended by dissecting the human figure into
contours and reconstructed in the neon light of commercial industries. The
work mimics the limiting perception of self when applying the lens of our
constructed society, the body becoming imprisoned in its own form, by its
own definitions. A critique on the hyper sexualisation and objectification of
women, or any form of physical based interpretation as reductive to the
potential and complexity of the individual.

Encirclement, 2021
These mesmerising illuminated forms have captured my ima
gination. They offer an
opportunity to contemplate connection. They respond to our proximity, our closeness
draws the light toward us, it affects us, and we affect them. This exploration relies upon
an interplay between the visible and the invisible. The interaction between blown glass,
inert gases, electricity, and the viewer, combine in an ever changing array of
mesmerising and pulsing fields of colour and energy.
The chosen form of the heart speaks of vital functions, whilst also being regarded as our
emotional and spiritual centre. Arranged in this circular rosette or mandala, akin to a
flickering stained-glass window, the hearts offer a meditation upon how intrinsically
connected we are. Of how we are influenced and affected by the unseen, how our
beliefs and understandings shape our lives. Reflecting upon how connections near and
far nurture and sustain us even through uncertainty. Moreover, the variations in form
and light serve as a celebration of how similar we are. Despite small differences we can
generate connection and understanding, with the capacity to be in awe of one another.

flippant and ephemeral. At times, they create cultural creations such as
“frybread girl”, “gubbamen”, “teepee creeper” and “BINT” that burst open
the silence and bring new ways of seeing into existence. These popular
expressions were learnt from art residencies in rural and urban areas in
Western Australian and Northern Territory and my own First Nation
communities.

ARTWORK TITLE Double-Speak, 2022
SOIDUTS ETILOEN Double-Speak talks to the parallel of perception between KAEPS-ELBUOD
how I am perceived versus how I am truly feeling. There is a
mirroring and connection between the two, but a distinct
difference, with a shadow self hidden in plain sight. I invites
you, the audience, to understand this second authentic self
through the work.

SOIDUTS ETILOEN ARTWORK TITLE Black Hole Sun Blood Moon Dream, 2022
BLACK HOLE SUN BLOOD MOON DREAM draws from the dimensional
bleeding and interlacing contained symbolically in day-to-night phase
and rhythm of life and reality. Forms and characters transmute and
morph between divine symbols of birth, bloom sleep and death in
hieroglyphic scroll panels, where in between the violent surreal noise
of ever pulsating waking and dream life folds in on itself saturated with
hyper vibrancy and chimeric shapes of self and other. That reality is a
confusion – of oppositions that melt together in graphic poetic
beautiful repulsion, like the lotus that rises from putrid mud or the
mutilated corpse that gives energy and nutrients to its fellow animal to
grow, and that we are all subject to the chaotic principles of existence
that is witnessed under the rise and fall of the sun and moon and
breathes in our subconscious.
