Each year House Martins arrive in villages

their fellow Hirundines, Swallows and Sand

are so typical of the British summer as they
weave their way between buildings, and create
elaborate patterns high up in the sky, and as
they hunt for insects around the margins of
fields and over ponds. To me their busyness

BEACON LIGHTING 2nd June 2022
Carl Ullyatt, Vice Chair of Martin & Martin Dales Parish Council,
lit the beacon at Martin Play Park on 2nd June 2022. The event
was well attended and included a bar supplied by Martin Village
Hall Committee, music by Sophie Cowling and a reading of
the official Proclamation by long-standing Martin resident
John Audis. John was presented with a certificate by MATES to
commemorate the occasion.

a flower festival, afternoon tea and a

live music in The Royal Oak and The

was the venue for a tremendous party,
complete with fancy dress parade,
games, music, an exuberant rendition
of Sweet Caroline and a toast to The

that succeeded in spite of the weather!
Well done to everybody involved in all

A pictorial roadside sign is being planned for Martin. Nineteen entries were received in the competition
for the design. A public vote was held at the Platinum Jubilee event on Sunday 5th June, and the top
selections are going before a Judging Panel made up of representatives of various aspects of village life.
The winner will be announced on social media and we will report on it in the next issue of The Grapevine.
