51 Park outlining rules and guidelines for the use of the equipment and park. The Play Park continues to be monitored and maintained by the Parish Council. Improvements to the provision of equipment will be considered this year. Woodland Creation Project The Woodland Creation Project has begun! The application for the grant was successful and preparation of the land started immediately by David Holvey and Cllrs Will Jenkins and Mick Ignatowski. The Woodland is on the land parallel to the Carr Dyke where the original allotments used to be. A planting day was held in November to start the project. Even though it was a chilly day, over 40 parishioners came to help, young and not so young, whole families and dog walkers! It was a great day with a great community atmosphere. Hundreds of trees of different species were planted and it was a great start to the project! Thank you to all of you for your enthusiasm and stamina! The objective is to complete the woodland within two years, with as much planting as possible being carried out this year. Another planting day is planned in the spring – and all are welcome again! D-DaY The 6th June 2024 is the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings on the five beaches in Normandy, France. To commemorate and pay tribute to the many thousands that sacrificed so much in helping to secure the freedom we all enjoy today, beacons will be lit and church bells rung across the country. The Parish Council will be participating in this by lighting the beacon at the Play Park at 9.15pm on Thursday 6th June. War Memorials The Parish Council is in the process of applying for grants to clean and repair the war memorials. Wood The Parish Council is clearing a fallen tree at the woodland and if anyone wants to help clear the wood or indeed needs some wood, let us know. Fix my street If anyone has problems with potholes, lamp posts, litter etc they can use the NKDC Fix My Street app to report it. www.fixmystreet.com Contact the Parish Council The Parish Council can be contacted via our website www.martinparishcouncil.co.uk. It also lists all current Councillors. Parish Councillor Mick Ignatowski (left) helped install new signs at the play park. 53 News from the Parish Council of TIMBERLAND AND THORPE TILNEY Timberland suffered a second rain event in three months when Storm Henk struck on January 2nd and once again caused flooding in various parts of the village. After a period of 12 years without any flooding we have now had two in a very short period of time. As I type this update, the country at large is being battered by 100mph winds as Storm Isha continues to cause chaos for homeowners, drivers and train commuters alike. The newspapers are full of stories of the destruction that is being caused with trees felled, cars crushed, trains and flights cancelled. Whatever one’s views are regarding the effects of man, it is hard to deny that climate change is a real thing and is affecting us increasingly. Locally, the PC once again took action to support the village. Sandbags were distributed and patrols were undertaken to monitor the impact of the floods and to offer support where possible. The waters eventually receded but once again homes were affected and damaged as a result. The PC are happy to report that the Timberland Family Fun Day will resume this year and preparations are well underway to ensure the event takes place on 13th July. The FFD was much missed in 2023 and many parishioners have welcomed its return. To ensure such an event runs smoothly takes a great deal of planning, much of it well in advance of the event itself. A small team is in place to drive this forward but if you feel that you would like to help, please get in touch as an extra pair of hands is always welcome. The protracted negotiations to extend the lease on Timberland Green continue to grind along. Extending the lease is critical to allow the Family Fun Day to go ahead, as well as providing the recreation space for children and dog walkers. The County Council continue to play hardball over the new terms of the lease, but we are moving forward and expect to have the matter complete, and a new lease signed, by the next PC meeting in March. Reports on progress will be shared through meeting minutes and on the PC Facebook page. Finally, I must report that the PC is now down to five councillors as we received two resignations in January which were with immediate effect. The PC can operate with five councillors, but it is far more beneficial to have the full complement of seven. More councillors mean more ideas for the benefit of the parish and as a result we will commence recruitment in the immediate future. Notices will be placed in the parish notice boards explaining the process and timelines. If you are interested and feel that you can make a difference, please get in touch. Timberland village is already well represented on the council so applications from Thorpe Tilney, Witham Bank and all locations in between would be particularly welcome. Your parish needs you!! The next meeting will take place on 18th March at 07:00 pm. All welcome!
