Grapevine May 24

Grapevine May 24

51 and look much more presentable than the previous wooden gates which had rotted. Last year at the village fete we held a photographic competition in order to use the photographs as part of a Martin village calendar. Many people voted on their favourite pictures and the top 12 formed the calendar. One hundred calendars were sold with many more requested. Due to the success, this competition will be run again this year, and again voting will take place at the fete so come on all you budding photographers get your pictures in before the fete on the 30th June so they can be included in the selection process. All photographs submitted are to be along the theme of the village of Martin or Martin Dales so what at you waiting for? If you wish to enter, please send the images to Cllr. Ben Lilley at ben@ martinparishcouncil.co.uk by 15th June 2024. Please ensure you send the original image as a jpg/tiff file attached to your email, rather than embedding the photo into a Word document or in the body of your email. The mobile SID is still being charged and moved by a very kind parishioner, our thanks go to him for taking his time to support the village and the Parish Council. The damaged speed signs through the village have been replaced, however, sadly these are starting to break again so this will be monitored in the coming months, and they will be replaced again as necessary. This year there have been a few changes to the PC, we said goodbye to Sasha Kitely who left to concentrate on getting her pub up and running again, so thank you Sasha for the work you put in while you were with us. We also welcomed Mick Ignatowski, Will Stephenson, Chris Greene and Andy Wilkes, great to have you all on board. So that is the last year, now on to plans for the new year. As already mentioned, we will be looking at repairs on the park, also the cleaning and repair of the war memorials which are looking very sad. Oh, and not forgetting more daffodil bulbs to be planted to add to the village Spring colour. We are currently looking at an additional streetlight outside of TimTin to make the area safer in the winter months when leaving the area at night. There is an opportunity to apply for a grant from NKDC to add some outdoor gym equipment to the play park. In order to process the application, we have to consult with the parishioners. Therefore, if there are any parishioners who are not in agreement with this idea could you please contact the parish clerk parishclerk@ martinparishcouncil.co.uk and let her know your objection. If we have not received any response but the end of June 2024 then we will commence with an application if the grants are still available at this time. Finally, all PCs are being encouraged to remember D-Day on the 6th June by lighting a beacon and ringing the church bells. Please see the advert on this page for details. – Clare Cowen Chair of the Parish Council MARTIN REMEMBERS... To commemorate D-Day the bells of Holy Trinity Church will ring at 8.45pm on Thursday 6th June. This will be followed by a Thanksgiving Service at the Playpark, where the Beacon will be lit at 9.15pm. Please join us - everybody is welcome.

53 Martin & Martin Dales Parish Council’s Woodland Creation Project We have had three weekends of successful planting towards the end of March. Stalwarts were David, Liz and Hilary who made it on all days of planting. Of course it is also a big thank you for everyone else, I think we had, over the four days, about 40 individuals. Gareth I hope your thumb is better, and a special thanks to Ryan from Bucknall and the fantastic couple from Holland, who were just visiting Martin. Not to forget the little people from TimTin who managed to plant ten trees! I was especially impressed how they could carry a 4lb lump hammer! We have so far planted about 4000 trees. These include Sessile Oak, Silver Birch, Wild Cherry, Walnut, Rowan, Field Maple, Dogwood, English Oak, Small Leaved Lime, Hornbeam, Bird Cherry, Hazel, Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Spindle Berry and Wayfaring Tree. A big THANK YOU to all who helped this happen from the Parish Council. Next planting days will be in November, so wander around and marvel at what you have all achieved and get your energy back. Councillor Will Jenkins Nick Boden, Hilary Sharp and David Holvey at one of the planting days. Children from TimTin planted ten trees.

55 News from the Parish Council of TIMBERLAND AND THORPE TILNEY Negotiations to extend the Timberland Green lease continue. My optimism in reporting in the last edition of Grapevine that this would all be done and dusted by now was perhaps naive. In writing this I feel a bit like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, in that we seem to take one step forward, two steps back and then start again. In truth, the negotiations with the managing agents and Lincolnshire County Council’s legal team have been difficult. The county council are playing hardball and imposing new conditions and responsibilities on a small parish council. However, we have worked hard to protect parishioners’ interests to ensure we get the best possible deal for the next 10-year lease. We are nearly there now, and I fully expect that I will be able to report that we have a deal agreed and signed by the next edition of Grapevine. However, I have said this before….. The news that Timberland Green will remain open for use by parishioners for another ten years is also good for the future of the Family Fun Day. Without a lease renewal there would not be a Family Fun Day and it is no secret how big a gap it left in the calendar when we didn’t have one in 2023. The arrangements are already well advanced for what should be another great day, whatever the weather. I will not go into too much detail here as a full article of the FFD can be found elsewhere in this publication. As a reminder the Family Fun Day will take place on Saturday 13th July. At this point I should highlight that our parish councillors contribute greatly to the successful running of the PC. Councillor Terry Audis continues to keep the village green and other surrounding grass areas neat, tidy, and molefree. Hardly a week goes by without the sight of him on the mower. Councillor Rory Slater has worked hard to put in place the Emergency Plan which ensures that we can respond quickly and obtain district council support should any emergency hit the village. Lately this has been the flooding that storms have brought, but the emergency plan now covers all eventualities. Cllr Slater also ensures the parish Facebook site is informative, accurate and up to date. Councillor Glen Sharplin ensures that the defibrillator is checked and maintained in good working order in the event it is ever needed and provides support in many other activities for the benefit of the parish. Parish councillors, together with other local volunteers, give up their free time for the benefit of parishioners. We are also grateful for the help and support we receive from our Parish Clerk, and I thank them all on your behalf. The hunt for two new councillors continues and we hope to have at least one of the vacancies filled shortly. To repeat my appeal from the last Grapevine, if you are interested and feel that you can make a difference, please get in touch. Timberland village is already well represented on the council so applications from Thorpe Tilney, Timberland Fen, Witham Bank, and all locations in between would be particularly welcome. Your parish needs you!! The next meeting will take place on 20th May at 7:00pm. All welcome! Chris Lenton Chair, Timberland Parish Council
