Grapevine November 2023

grapevine november 23

51 issues dealt with. As a key concern for our residents and businesses, we know this move will be a welcome one. I will continue to lobby for a share of the money being spent road improvements in our area. CallConnect fares match Government scheme Now available, the £2 fare cap scheme has been brought in by LCC for everyone using the on-demand bus service – and it doesn’t matter how far the single ride is, each user will only pay £2 to get to where they want to go. Whilst the Council were unable to access the Government’s own £2 fare scheme for CallConnect, we have taken the idea and applied it to our on-demand service that’s been especially designed for rural living – perfect for getting about around our county. CallConnect is a great way for people to stay connected and to get about around our county. By limiting the fare in this way so that it matches the Government scheme employed elsewhere, we can ensure that it remains as useable for as many people as possible. Gold award! Lincoln Castle has received VisitEngland’s Gold Award, recognising them as among the best visitor attractions in the country. Now in their ninth year, VisitEngland’s Accolades are designed to celebrate excellence within the visitor attraction sector and showcase those that go the extra mile to provide a high-quality day out. Gold award status recognises those attractions that have scored highly across the board, and Lincoln Castle is one of only four venues in the whole of the East Midlands to receive the award this year. My colleague Cllr Lindsey Cawrey, executive member for culture at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Lincoln Castle truly outperforms in the tourism world. Earlier this year it was revealed to have been England’s most visited free castle in 2022, and now the unforgettable days out and exciting events it offers have been recognised with this Gold Award from VisitEngland. “Alongside our other culture and heritage sites across the city and beyond, Lincoln Castle attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors and in turn supports the visitor economy of Lincoln and Lincolnshire. Tourism is one of England’s largest and most valuable industries, and across Lincolnshire the sector is worth around £2.39bn to the local economy.” Keep up to date with what’s on at Lincoln Castle by finding the venue on Facebook, X and Instagram, or plan your visit at www. lincolncastle.com. 53 News from the Parish Council of TIMBERLAND AND THORPE TILNEY Over recent weeks the Parish Council has been working on developing an Emergency Plan detailing how to react when an unusual event occurs within the parish. As we all know, Friday 20th October witnessed just such an event when Storm Babet struck, and the heavy rainfall overwhelmed the system of dykes and wastewater pipework that serve Timberland village. Working to the plan, the Fire Service and Lincolnshire County Council were immediately contacted to provide support. Members of the volunteer emergency team patrolled the village offering sandbags, assistance, and a comforting word wherever possible to try and minimise the impact. Additionally, the village hall was opened to provide warmth, hot drinks, and a refuge for anyone in need. All activities were voluntary, took up much of the day and resulted in cold, wet, and tired councillors. Sadly, a number of properties suffered severe water damage as a result of the flooding, but the assistance provided under the emergency plan was welcomed by many residents. A number of lessons have been learned which will be used to update the plan in case such problems recur. As reported in the last edition of Grapevine, the PC has been working with highways to investigate costeffective methods of ensuring speeding within Timberland village is reduced. While it is not considered a significant problem there are still instances where the speed limit is being exceeded. The keen-eyed amongst you will have seen that 30 MPH speed warning roundels have been painted on the entrance roads into the village. Highways report that these are considered a very effective method of alerting drivers to Church Lane, Timberland on 22nd October this year.

54 speed limits and because of their recommendation these have now been completed. It is also intended that speed measuring traps will be installed to track speed of vehicles entering the village. These traps should allow us to identify if there is a real problem with speeding. When the results are known, the PC will review to see if there is an issue that needs further action to resolve. Negotiations to extend the lease on Timberland Green continue. The county council have proposed a significant increase in the annual rent and are taking a tough stance in negotiations. However, we continue to discuss and are making some headway, but a rent increase beyond our initial expectations seems inevitable. Given that the green is such a focus of village life the PC feel that we must extend the lease and pay the increased costs to ensure that sports, recreation, and the Family Fun Day can continue as normal. We will try and make savings elsewhere to compensate. Finally, the PC has launched a Facebook page to enable faster information sharing and communication with parishioners. This has already been very well received and is attracting more followers by the day. Comments and suggestions for additional content would be most welcome. The next meeting will take place on 20th November at 07:00 pm. All welcome! 55 We have had a fabulous Summer here at Timberland Village Hall. We have met some lovely new people from the village and surrounding area. Thank you to all those who continue to support us. Our garden has had some well neededTLC from local volunteers, it’s looking beautiful, and we thank them for the hours they put in. We are planning on updating the patio at the back to make a lovely outdoor seating area. Our coffee mornings are now a regular event in the diary, every second and fourth Tuesday of the month 10am–midday. It is lovely to see both regulars and new faces. It is a great way to get to know the locals in a relaxed atmosphere. We just sit, chat and drink tea/coffee and get through plenty of biscuits. Everyone is welcome. The hall is being hired out for regular events such as table tennis and yoga. We would love to see some more regular activities. If you are interested in booking our beautiful, recently renovated hall for a party, event or activity or for any other enquiries please contact Tvhbookings@ timberlandvillagehall. onmicrosoft.com We have a group called The Friends of Timberland. We often need our local residents help with running some events which can include baking cakes, homemade meals for the quiz nights, donating raffle prizes, and serving drinks at the coffee mornings. We have had a small change on the Village Hall Committee structure. I just wanted to introduce myself as the new Chairperson. My name is Rhea Musgrove and whilst I live in Scopwick, I spend most of my social time in Timberland, and my husband, myself and our 6 (yes 6!!!!) children have been joining in with village events for a while now. I have quite a lot of experience with local charitable groups having lived locally since I was young. My mission during my time as chair is to keep this beautiful and historically important building going, both in terms of the structure of the building and its role as the hub of the village. However, I am on the lookout for a person or team of people who could support us with essential maintenance to the building. We have a list of jobs, from painting, to fixing things and any help or advice with would be gratefully received! Are you that person, could you take on a handy person role in any shape? If so drop us an email, [email protected] call us 07703 386137 or pop along and join the committee. I’m sure I will get to meet you all soon if I haven’t already!
